I was just reading another thread which makes me wonder how many companies are part of Nuance? I take it Focus, OSI, Encompass, some connection with Webmedx (maybe just with overflow), SGS, Execuscribe, Meditech. Any others? I'd really like to know because it seems every time I tried in the past to look for a new job I ended up applying with the same basic MTSO, though different names. Is there any way to find out the names of the MTSOs that get swallowed up or merged with bigger ones? Just curious.

I am not sure about the other companies you mentioned, but I work for Nuance. Initially, I worked for Focus (for the last 2 years)then as of February 1 of this year, Focus, OSI, Encompass and Nuance all became Nuance Transcription. Dictaphone, Cisco VR, Dragonfly are all owned by the the same company. Now which one came first and who bought out what company I do not know. I do know that the only "official" MT services are the ones I listed previously. As far as outsourcing overflow...I have no idea. I do know that our Human Resources is through AlphaStaff so the transcription companies are "comanaged" by AlphaStaff/Nuance. I know it sounds pretty complicated. I have no contact with anyone but my team leader of 2 years and she is great. I have one account that I have had for 2 years and therefore, I have the same doctors, ER doctors from a medical center and from time to time I do inpatient reports. I am very seldom bothered by anyone from the company. Have you worked for Focus previously?

What about GIS (Global Info Systems) - Nuance / Fosus relationship?

There must be some relationship between GIS and Focus and Nuance but I cannot figure it out and I work for GIS as an IC.

Hi, Yes,I currently work for Focus, but I have only worked there for four months. I have two accounts, one easy, and one not so easy - international doctors. I had no work over the holidays, but it is picking up now. Of course, I am working 3rd shift!! I am still not making enough to survive on this one job, but like I said, it is picking up. I like my TL also, and she has been very helpful. I appreciate your input, as I had only heard really bad things about Focus up until your post.

I work for Encompass, which was purchased by Nuance. I was just informed that our incentives, benefits, and pay have all changed. All of a sudden, we have more work out of TAT. I am guessing that a number of people have quit because of the new incentives and lower pay. Besides the fact that we have to pay 100% of our benefits (no employer match except for 401K). I am not too thrilled about making less money and not being able to afford benefits. I am going back to school to get my Bachelors and a better career.

Good choice, Red. This was always a job, so if you want - a career have fun choosing a great one. NM

I want to work as an employee and have benefits. I need health insurance and really want PTO. I want a company big enough to be busy but I CANNOT AND WILL NOT work for MQ again. Just got a crapload of rules, regulations, and BS from Nuance supervisor. I need an accountant and lawyer to interpret this junk. If Nuance spent as much getting new accounts as they do on creating garbage names for their new "improved" way of doing things, we could all make money and quit reading notices from Nuance with all kinds of disclaimers. I am considering a part time position with this company. As a part time employee, I was expecting the hours to be 4 hours a day, but a friend of mine also with Nuance says part time involves 8 hours on either Sat. or Sun. I work for Amphion and I'm generally happy with it. That said, I've seen on here before that Amphion is part of Nuance. Then in one of my emails recently I saw the name Nuance mentioned (in reference to workload). Is that true? That kinda makes me a little uneasy seeing that MM and N are the top two undesirables (that's putting it nicely). With everything we are hearing about Nuance taking them over and Nuances pay and bonus plan referred on here as low. I just had interview with Softscript and found out that they do not hire any part-time MT's. Here they let me do testing and go to all that trouble and never even looked at my application, where I distinctly siad I wanted only part-time. Just shows how much they look at your application. So I am wondering now if Nuance hires that way. If not then this is probably a waste of time too. Very frustrating that these companies do not let you know up front. ...

I can do it most of the time, but every now and then I miss it, sometimes by as much as 20 lines per hour. I have had 1 email asking that I use my time more productively and make the line count. I actually do use my time as productively as I can. I admit, although I have done this for years, I am not great with VR editing. Nuance's survival depends upon this, and they don't care diddly squat about yours.
