I am considering a part time position with this company. As a part time employee, I was expecting the hours to be 4 hours a day, but a friend of mine also with Nuance says part time involves 8 hours on either Sat. or Sun. I was expecting and perfectly OK with 4 hours on the weekend, like any other day a part time person would normally work. Why would they expect a part time person to work 8 hours on a day when the dictation is coming in at a lesser rate than M-F if a weekend day is a normal workday for their staff to begin with? They shouldn't be understaffed for those days.

If any of you work part time for Nuance, can you verify that this is REQUIRED, or is it something you can work out with your supervisor? Do you get off completely on another day during the week as well as either the Monday or Friday already built in. Can you flex your hours, for example 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, or do they like all 4 together as a straight shift, like 8-12 or something? Used to another company that is fairly flexible; they normal hours but will work around things without too much problem and only 4 on the weekend, like every other day considered a normal work day.

So, I don't know if this has changed, or not, but when I worked there they wouldn't let you split up your hours - it had to be a straight shift (ex. 4 hours, not 2 at one time and 2 later in the day). I only worked 4 days a week for them, including the mandatory weekend day, and I was doing 23 hours per week.

allowing me to schedule my hours. When I went from F/T to P/T (30 hours), I chose 5 hours per day 6 days a week. One of these days, of course, is a week-end day. When I proposed my schedule, my supervisor let it be known that she was very flexible. She said some MTs did 6 hours a day, 5 days a week; she even had a couple who did 7.5 hours 4 days a week. The great thing about 30 hours/PT is that you get full benefits, some PTO, and 401K.

There is NO WORK here. They are overhiring - again. nm

I just had interview with Softscript and found out that they do not hire any part-time MT's. Here they let me do testing and go to all that trouble and never even looked at my application, where I distinctly siad I wanted only part-time. Just shows how much they look at your application. So I am wondering now if Nuance hires that way. If not then this is probably a waste of time too. Very frustrating that these companies do not let you know up front. ...

I can do it most of the time, but every now and then I miss it, sometimes by as much as 20 lines per hour. I have had 1 email asking that I use my time more productively and make the line count. Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I'm considering dropping to part-time. I checked out the MQ Central for the specs and it indicates 24 hours/0.03 PTO per 48 hr pay period/1.37 hours for a max of 5 days/40 hours yearly. My CCM said if I happened to work 39 hours in a week, I'd get more PTO accumulated during that time. She said there are PT folks who get just as much PTO as the FT do.
