Any SoftScript employees who can give me advice? - new SSer

Just hired. This is my 2nd week. Been an MT since 1986.

I get NO communication from my mentor or production manager. I added them to Yahoo messenger as instructed, but they have yet to accept my invite. I have asked questions of the production manager via email with absolutely no response. My mentor did answer one question via email.

Yesterday, problems with the software. Down part of the day.

Today, it loaded with an enlarged screen. Could not see physician area. Voxplayer is not showing up to be able to set speed, etc. It works, just not showing the skin on my screen. There is a button for it on the taskbar, but I cannot open it to view it. ???

I'm going back to the job ads right now. I don't know what to do. I am so discouraged, getting hired by a company, knowing the right questions to ask, ie., is your software stable, is there enough work, is there good support, only to be misled.

Any advice?

You need to CALL your production manager. If no answer, call back 10 minutes later. They get bombarded with e-mails but will answer the phone. You will get used to it. Hang in there, I have found them to be nice people and helpful, you just have to know which path to use.

I thought they did away with the Yahoo IM. I got an e-mail regarding that a few months ago. I did not get one stating that they were using it again, so maybe you got some old materials. Use the good, old-fashioned phone. You can even call Support and ask for their help with your screen. They will not mind your call at all. Please don't leave, give them a chance.

was talking to her neighbor while I was trying to ask a question. I had to keep holding on and then didn't know if she was speaking to me or the other person. As for mentor? That's a total joke. I'm made to feel stupid and as if I'm wasting her time. I'm far from new at this and know enough that this is not how you treat new employees. So long SS is all I can say. I'll be out of your hair just as soon as I can.

Use Zimbra mail not Yahoo messenger. - recent exSS

Last week was my last week there so maybe things have changed in a week. They quit using yahoo messenger some time back. All messages were supposed to be sent using the Zimbra email system. Did they set you up with Zimbra email? I left because I could not work my schedule. There was alot of work. When I emailed my PM with Zimbra, I always received a timely response. If you do not have Zimbra you should definitely call support.

I feel your pain! I have been with for 4 months and still having problems getting it all down, and feeling like I'm in a black hole!!! Even considering going back to MModal!!! I emailed you, email me back... love to commiserate and see what's what!!!

I was interested to read this posting. I just recently got hired and am trying to get paperwork taken care of (having difficulty with the notarized forms). Anyway, I was told in the interview, as well as when I received the paperwork, that I would need to be logged into Yahoo Messenger at all times when I was working so that I could be contacted immediately if needed. So now - what I'm understanding - is that you are NOT supposed to use Yahoo as a SS employee?

Just wondering if SoftScript is still in the dark ages, no VR. I kept high hopes lines of communication would improve for 2 years, but never did.

Wondering if anyone has been let go because of sending over 8% of work to QA. They expect our line count to be at least 135 an hour (which for the most part is easily done), our accuracy to be 98+ and under 8% to QA. Sometimes this is not possible. I do everything I can to not send to QA (relisten, utilize google, books, relisten, adjust speed/sound, did I mention relisten, relisten, relisten).....but lets face it there are a boatload of dictators that are just impossible. ...

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor. You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars. Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India. What a difference. They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years. I absolutely cannot even understand this part of the dictation to even try to break it up into something valid. It's under the physical examination, HEENT. ASR was doing better a little while back now it is way screwed up again...Which means they hired people that dont know what they are doing..They need to make it about a year or so on new hires before they go through the filter and screw it up..And you would think at the very least there would be a filter to keep misspelled words from printing out,,,Just my opinion ...

I just want to let everybody know there are other fields where we can put our skills to use. I responded to an ad asking for a transcriptionist and thinking it was medical I sent my resume of 20+ years MT and got hired . It turns out its a legal transcriptionist for workers comp lawyers. Right now I do 4 hours a day as they need me (as there is another transcriptionist there) and am making a lot more than medical transcriptionist. I have been considering going to Andrews to become an MT for and I have never done it because I get on these boards and get scared to death! I have worked in the Medical field for 13 years (as a clinical tech and surgery....included in that is some limited transcription and scribing). I now stay home with my kids. I have one in school and the other in pre-school. I would love to be an MT because I love the medical field and I would love something I can do from home. I do not expect to get rich. ...

Do you think it is necessary to give 2 weeks notice if I am ALWAYS out of work. For example I should be done with my 8 hour shift in an hour and I am not even half way through the day due to being out of work on my primary and ALL of my back ups.
