Should I give up 1 job? Need feedback. sm - CrispyCritterMT

I work part time for 2 companies. One company usually has plenty of work. I love the work and the people and they are very flexible. I can usually get full time lines. The other company usually has no work and I really despise the work and the QA. I'm tired of the constant frantic emails stating how there is so much work only to go on and find there are less then 10 jobs. This company now wants us to be employees. I don't want to be their slave, jumping from 1 account to another to get lines or sitting at my computer all day. Not when I have another job where I have work and sometimes I think I'm jeopardizing this job to work at the one I hate. This is probably a no-brainer but I would like to quit this company and just go with the other one, but with today's job market don't know if I should do this. I'm just afraid with just one job I'll be in trouble if the work gets slow as I am my sole support. I guess I could find something else if needed, I have 30+ years experience. What are your thoughts on this? Like I said this is probably a no-brainer, but just need some support. Thanks.

There is nothing you like about the company. You anticipate it not only not getting any better, but probably worse if you go to employee position. Doesn't s/l you could be very productive and your emotional well-being will be affected. Unless you absolutely can not pay your bills with company #1 and/or a slow down in work would cause you financial hardship I would absolutely say give up company #2. Not to sound rude but if you have 30+ years of experience you're no spring chicken and there is more to life than being miserable at a job.

I have 20+ years of experience and I'm considering going from employee to IC, which I've never been, just to allow myself a little more flexibility in my schedule and to be able to take a day off without having to ask 3 months in advance. I would take a financial hit, but I'm doing everything I can now to trim the budget to prepare myself should the right opportunity become available. My children are teens and won't be at home much longer. I'd like to spend some quality time with them, I'd like to rekindle the flame with my DH, and I'd like to have the time and energy to do some of the things I've been wanting to do but never had the time for.

LOL - I think I was pretty clear about how I feel. If you are married and you have a supportive spouse start the New Year off right and kiss company #2 goodbye and don't think twice about it.

It's clear from reading these posts that there are some people who are deliriously happy at Nuance, unless of course they are posting on its behalf to do damage control. My question is, those of you who are the happy ones, why? Do you do straight transcripion, editing, or both? Do you find that you are rarely OOW? I got feedback on a report today, CRITICAL FEEDBACK. The doctor dictating was absolutely horrible, worse than horrible. I could not understand him, tried my hardest and before I uploaded it sent a note to QA asking for a sample of his work, explained that I could NOT UNDERSTAND HIM. I'm so happy! I got my audit, passed with flying colors and got an email from sup saying good work and keep it up! He also suggested that I submit for a raise since I've been consistent. I said I didn't know that we could, but apparently we can if we maintain that 98% average consistently for a certain amount of time. I started with MModal a month or so ago and I am noticing that MME feedback is not consistent. One will cross out dictation in the document that another will leave (like service or surgeon or primary doc). Also, "myself/himself/herself" should not be changed? Would appreciate feedback from anyone using M-Modal, especially Webmedx Enterprise MTs. Dreading the conversion and wondering if my fears are well founded. I'm pretty fast straight typing but rarely get more than 50 lines more an hour with current VR. Seems all it takes is just one lousy report to negate the lines made on the decent reports. Have a hospital where you are to phonetically spell name if not given (it wasn't except to call him "Steven") QA so kindly sent me QA feedback and the only thing on there was that apparently Steven was actually spelled "Stephun."
