finding work - on boards etc

Posted: Sep 28th, 2020 - 1:12 am In Reply to: Has anyone found work posting on the job or resume boards? - Question

As part of my job search I checked the job board a lot but never found anything to apply for there, just places I knew about but would not consider.

I had a horrifying time looking for work after losing my 20-year gig with MModal. I limped along with a part-time I'd had for years and then added an IC I picked up from web searches (two jobs equaled almost one paycheck with no benefits or taxes taken out).

I white-knuckled constant job searching every free moment for two years (and accepted two temp jobs no one should attempt at age 60) until I finally found an (at-home, MT-related) job that should see me through to retirement if not beyond. I will be digging out from taxes for a few years.

I created dozens of customized resumes and cover letters for every job service I could find, responded in detail to every job that looked remotely possible, and also scoured the web using every MT-related word I could think of.

In short, I was scared witless and became obsessed with job hunting. Unfortunately, I think that's what it takes. Because A) The internet is vast and it's hard to narrow down what you're looking for and B) "Medical transcription" is no longer a major category.

If you want to work at home as an MT, hit the web like crazy. You might find a job tomorrow or in six months. Or contact local temp services -- work from home and PC skills are in higher demand now.

Good luck, I feel for you.
