Is it possible to make decent money with TransTech E-Scription VR? nm - Fed up and looking. nm

Of course it is! Now drink your VR Kool-Aid and get back to work! - VR Luvr

[ In Reply To ..]
Seriously, of course it is IMPOSSIBLE to make good money with this VR CRAP, especially TT's system. Management will sweet talk you into believing anything so they can pay off that expensive software they bought.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain...

same tired old phrases - like a broken record

[ In Reply To ..]
I think you drink the "drink the Kool-Aid" Kool-Aid. You use it ad nauseum; same with man behind the curtain. You need to get off these boards, get some fresh air, maybe come back with a little creativity of verbiage.

Or just drone on. You are amusing at times.

And you need to face reality. - VR Luvr

[ In Reply To ..]
More and more are posting that they DO NOT make money typing VR CRAP. So, drink your VR Kool-Aid. You love VR so much?? Stop posting and get back to work!! Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

Just wonder why people here take similar names to yours? - VR lover

[ In Reply To ..]
I would say wait until someone who is actually working on TransTech answers here. There is a person using similar name to mine and they bash every posting who asks about VR, whether it is your company or someone elses. Just wait and get a good answer to your question. I don̢۪t work at your particular place but love VR.

I kinda suspected you were being sarcastically mocked - ?

[ In Reply To ..]
I saw it and the Kool-Aid comments and assumed someone was mocking you for enjoying VR. Maybe I'm wrong, but the "VR Luvr" comments are always somewhat sarcastic.

Somewhat sarcastic?? - try caustic

[ In Reply To ..]
Miserable nasty person who trolls these boards like an underbridge dweller.

I work there and I make less now that I am doing VR...sm - bowen

[ In Reply To ..]
I hate VR but they made us all do it and now I am making less. I don't think you can make good money doing VR anywhere. But TT seems to overhire a lot, and now that they are strictly doing VR, making good money there is hard. I plan on leaving this profession soon so you can have my job!

VR - VR Hater

[ In Reply To ..]
It is not that I really hate VR - it is just that you can't seem to make any money off of it. It is a lot of editing and sometimes I think it would be faster just to type the notes. I have been doing VR for years now and have never made the money that I used to make doing transcription, not even one-third of the money. More work - less pay!!!

Thank you! - NorCalMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Finally someone said it simply = VR is not really the enemy here, it's the horrible pay scale attached to it. It's always going to be a win-lose, guess who loses? Generally speaking of course. I know some make decent $$$ but for the rule substandard pay for the skills required. JMHO
Exacatacally!!! - VR Luvr
[ In Reply To ..]
But they try to tell you that you will make millions!! So much money you'll never be able to spend it all!!

Not... You want me to deal with your CRAP VR? Pay me what my knowledge is worth. And don't lie to me about it being a good income. It isn't.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!
In my opinion... - TechSupport
[ In Reply To ..]
...offshore transcription rates are the primary competitive driver behind our VR pay rates. The connection might not be obvious, but I think the real competition (costwise) now is between offshore transcription and onshore VR. Given that both are about equally crappy "front ends" and both have to be edited on the "back end", you can begin to connect the dots.
Alright TechSupport please give me an answer - L
[ In Reply To ..]
Even though I work on VR, I have no idea what is meant by front end as compared to back end VR. I think the work I get and edit is straight from the hospital.
what are you talking about? Front-end transcription...sm - duh?
[ In Reply To ..]
is done completely by doctors, they dictate and edit their own reports. Back-end transcription is where the MTs come in.

This is minimal knowledge if you want to participate in MTing discussions.
Why are you being so catty by that answer - L
[ In Reply To ..]
Minimal knowledge? I have every right to ask a question here and participate in many discussions on these boards. You just sound like such a lovely person, yeh right.
all of "duhs" posts are like that - the condescending nic says it all

Just ignore... don't take it personally.
Hi, L, my post was in reply to TechS's comment, not to yours...nm - duh

for TechS: difference between front- and back-end transcription - does not matter
[ In Reply To ..]
"Transcription Technology Wars — Navigating the ASP/ASR/ARRA Battlefield:

"Speech recognition will cut labor costs at least in half as the team becomes editors instead of manual transcriptionists.

Even better, some offerings can eliminate transcription staff completely because physicians can instantaneously (or nearly so) access ASR-generated drafts, edit their own work, and approve documents in one sitting.

References are available to illustrate high adoption rates, where only a few of the physicians are still processed through manual transcription because their dictating habits or accents prevent them from being acceptable ASR candidates."

The 2nd paragraph explains what "front-end" transcription is.

You figured this out only today? We know this already since. sm - front/back
[ In Reply To ..]
VR was introduced, years ago.

Read the post below what "front- and back-end transcription and VR" are about.

I think I am right saying that you are in the technical field only and did never MTing.

retyping - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I was told to copy and cut reports like this by one of my supervisors. However, I would find myself having to paste the original report back in just to try to figure out some stuff.

I found there were times the computer got the mumbles right.

So now if I get a VR/ASR report that is really messed up, I just do insert and just start typing. I find this saves me lots of time over trying to make massive corrections to the report. As well, I don't end up having to type everything in the report. I find at times I can skip over entire sections without making any corrections.

That's the real point here - NorCalMT

retyping = key strokes = TRANSCRIBING = still half the pay = :{

It can be done, but it's so freaking hard and time-consuming I question whether it's worthwhile.

I work like a demon during my shift, full speed ahead, cleaning up only where necessary, and end up with about 2500-3000 lines. About $100-120 a day, grossing anywhere between $1600-1900 biweekly.

I'm exhausted. My mind is fried. My straight transcription skills are suffering. It's MUCH more mentally exhaustive, IMO, than straight transcription.

It's not that I don't like VR, not at all. I love technology.

What I don't like is the intense speed at which you are forced to work. It's unnatural and it's a recipe for disaster as far as patient care is concerned, IMO.

Can you make money doing it?

Yeah, good enough to live on I suppose.

But it sucks every minute you're having to go into crack-mode to start your shift. It's insanity at its finest.

Some are good at this, some are not - VRing

[ In Reply To ..]
I make as much with voice as I did before inhouse with base and production. I think the most problem I have is the eyes, scanning all those words but I do not mind the fastness, in fact I like it, have mine turned up as fast as it will go. I work 8 hours only each day and do about $170 per day. Have little straight but not that much. Wish all mine was voice.

You're very fortunate - RubySoho

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm a naturally fast reader, but I'm so "old school" that I have a real compulsion to clean up every single little detail that I have to fight the entire time I'm editing. I work at top speed but the accelerated speed of the dictation just wreaks havoc on my brain by the end of my shift, my heart seems to be beating faster from the increased pace, and my brain is just, for lack of a better word, SCRAMBLED.

If it paid by hour, I'd enjoy VR more because I could slow it down a tad and just enjoy helping to "train" the system without worrying about my net pay at the end of a shift.

Kudos to you, though, for being able to adapt to it so seamlessly. I think that's wonderful.
Good to see successful editors discuss downsides. - MissIndigo
[ In Reply To ..]
I also find I have to edit just as fast as I can to make a fairly comparable hourly rate. I find editing itself very pleasant, but I work with the accelerator to the floor from the time I sit down until I get up--very tiring, even though, after reading years of posts here and comparing my experiences and income to others I do think I'm among those with a talent for it. I usually end up padding my time to produce a full 8 hours on the clock because day after day working so long this intensively is just too much.

Back when I worked EditScript I was working as fast as I could read but wasn't at that platform long enough to experience the problems you describe. My current platform leaves many errors to correct, so more hand work, and I certainly never get close to increasing dictation speed to the max. So maybe there is some blessing to all the tiresome errors this VR never seems to overcome.
My place has been calling for overtime recently - VRing
[ In Reply To ..]
After 8 hours straight as fast as I can go my eyes say no more. I might, might work an additional 30 minutes because I really like the company but no more of 14 or 15 hour days like I did in the past.
Thanks, ladies! - RubySoho
[ In Reply To ..]
I was afraid I was the only one who found listening to stuff at such a rapid rate of speed and the intensity required in editing to keep up with it just EXHAUSTING. I find I'm far more mentally tired editing than I was transcribing, even though my salary is pretty much comparable editing to a relaxed 8-hour pace doing straight transcription.

It's just...I dunno, "abnormal" to me to listen to anything at Mickey Mouse speed and I've been doing this several years. Yes, I can do the job...but do I ENJOY the job?

Not as much as straight transcription, to be perfectly honest.

You are lucky. I'm not up to speed yet. - TTr-3 years

[ In Reply To ..]
Did great on ExSpeech. Made good money, but now on Escript, can't get used to it. Doesn't help that I get half straight typing mixed with VR.

I'm ready to throw in the towel.
Some would be glad to have half and half - VRing
[ In Reply To ..]
Why not you? What do you think is the difference between ExSpeech and Escription?
My fingers get confused on the shortcut keys - TTr-3 years
[ In Reply To ..]
After doing ExSpeech for over a year, my fingers don't want to conform to Escription shortcut keys. Alt+D in ExSpeech deleted a word. In Escription, it takes the player back to the beginning.

The red box drives me nuts, too. Plus, I can't use my expander, not even for straight. It clashes with the program, so everything in straight is exactly that.
I do not have the problems you are having with that platform - VRing
[ In Reply To ..]
I do NO shortcuts except for 2, that is the cc list to send copies and control delete to delete a word. Those are the only 2 I use. I started out not learning and see no use for doing those. Why after upteen years of doing this type work do I have to retrain and I didn̢۪t. I use the mouse and keep it usually 1 line below where I am editing and I can fly like that. You can turn the red box off but for me I love it in finding where I was say if I get up for a drink of water and return, where am I now in the report? I thought wanted to turn off at first but now just do not pay attention to it. I think it is like floaters in the eyes, you have them and if you concentrate can see but the brain turns them off basically (that is an issue I have, by the way, not everyone has those). I never use an expander because the majority of mine is very, very good. Why do you use an expander, is your work not coming out good? I do some straight and the only thing I use on that is for things like the patient (TP) on that or expanding a word like EGD in a diagnosis.
I need to use my expander in the reports that require - TTr-3 years
[ In Reply To ..]
all straight typing, but it still clashes with the program.

I have to use a mix of mouse and shortcut keys because some of the 'buttons' don't work using the shortcut keys, so I then have to use the mouse. The worse part of it all is that I never know when I'll have to use the mouse or the shortcut key because sometimes I can use the shortcut keys with the mouse.

I've basically been trying to use just my mouse and it is a little easier. At least I don't hit Alt+D as often. LOL

No way, you can not make that much. I am not dumb - Bunion

[ In Reply To ..]
You, even at that speed can not make that much, prove it silly person. Not believable. I had my say!

How does one go about proving - L

[ In Reply To ..]
what they make, send you a copy of their check? I average at least $150 per day on voice, but don̢۪t have to prove it to you or anyone else. Just because you can't do does not mean others are in the same boat.
I believe you, but it seems that you have to work VR on a - cleaned-up VR accounts for 6 months before you mak

M*Modal - Does Anyone Make Decent Money With This?
Jan 03, 2010

I have been using M*Modal for about a month and a half now and I was really trying to give it a shot, but I am really doubting that I can ever make good money with this program.   I used to be able to transcribe approximately 25 min/hour and these were docs that went pretty fast, so I usually got 250 to 300 lines/hour @ 9/line, so I made about  22.50 to 27.00/hr.  Now with M*modal, they dropped the line rate 4/line and there is just no way that I ...

Is Anyone Able To Make A Decent Living As A MT Anymore?
