I think I may be an odd ball, but I love VR work. After doing VR, I don't think I will go back to straight text. I don't have any problems making money and I work on a really easy platform, which makes all the difference (Dictaphone ExText).

Good for you! I struggled at first, even to the point that I wasn't meeting my minimum LPH requirements, but after I learned tricks and tweeks, I'm coming around. I am making about the same pay as straight MT now.

I also work on ExSpeech. Can you give me some hints. I have only been working on this about 2 weeks. I also use instant text. Any helpful hints would be appreciated. I like it too especially when you get the "rocketmouths"and you can breeze through their physicals.

Enjoying Speech Recognition (SR) - Linda Andrews, CMT, AHDI-F

Shockingly, I'm hearing some good things about SR. I was very skeptical last year when I had a couple of graduates who told me they enjoyed working with speech recognition (SR). Sure they did!

I can't explain it, but in the past few months I've been hearing graduates say that they LOVE SR. I had one a few days ago who said she was making even more than she was with traditional MT. I don't know if something has changed or what. I'm continuing to watch the situation. I hope that's a trend and MTSOs have found a way to make it work. Time will tell.

I was so surprised when I heard positive comments that I forgot to ask for specifics. I want to know WHY they like it when most of us have not seen much there to like. The jury is still out on that one for me. Time will tell.

the software, the audio, and the cpl are bad, then not anymore, because the cpl is always bad.

Also, it was a big misspeculation that VR will double the production, therefore the cpl is set at half.

VR should pay 2/3 of straight, because there are still al LOT of corrections to be made.

A new ESL dictating a DS. Can't speed him up because he's too "new" (to this country?). He is spelling every other word!!!!!! An email gets sent out around 4 a.m. stating there is a critical backlog and asking everyone to help out. The email shows the backlog, but it's really not that big. I love to be able to fill in blanks that people can't get and to help them. I wish I could give them detailed explainations so that they can understand the why of the error or resources I used to find it. However, because of the ridiculous pay and having to wade though ILP garbage (sorry, I don't enjoy helping them out), I'm only able to leave brief or even no messages to try to at least make what I did when being an MT. Imagine 8 hours of looking up "J. A. Smith" in phone books to write down his/her phone number. Then searching for the modifier for his second line. For the last week and a half, all I have been doing is progress notes for some hospital that isn't even in my BoB. It is worse than watching paint dry, I swear. So, I got this super long report with HORRIBLE audio. When I got finished it looked like a piece of Swiss cheese it had so many blanks. Finally sucked it up and bought a Kinesis Advantage keyboard.
