Is it efficient to transcribe in Word, cut and paste into another software? - Rose

I have always worked in Word or an equivalent of, however, I have one account in another program that does not work well with my Instant Text. The account is actually quite good and I could produce much more if I could take advantage of some form of production software. Has anyone worked in Word and then cut and paste the work into the software and it was successful?

I can use Instant Text, but many of the functions do not work, which only makes it more confusing when trying to switch between accounts. I have contacted IT for help and they were not able to help me.

I have been transcribing for over 20 years and I am seeing how difficult it is to get work that I want to hang on to everything I have, but I am in this for the money, so anything that I can do to help that cause - I'm interested in.

If you've already tried it once and it works smoothly, go for it. I used it regularly on a particular account that did not have a medical spell checker, nor would it allow me to use my shortcuts. So for that one it really did make me money.

However, I tried it on this piece o'crap program called Meditech and yes, while it did copy and paste, it pasted it in ONE-LETTER-AT-A-TIME in super slow mo. It was brutal and definitely not worth it. That program also didn't work with my spell checker or shortcuts. I had to ditch that job actually. :-D

While it is pasting 1 letter at a time, I start typing the next job! That is my time saver. If I was not able to start the next job and just had to wait for it to paste, I would quit also.

How do you get the bold feature to copy and paste into Meditech from Word. I'm using PC Shorthand?

That was another bummer about Meditech. It wouldn't automatically transfer any formatting from the word document such as indents or paragraphs OR bold or underline. Very VERY aggrivating little program. "Hate" is too gentle a word for the feelings that program stirs up in my belly.

I do it with Bayscribe - Happy MT Robin

It works like a charm. I think Bayscribe is just a fabulous program, but it doesn't work with Smartype. I set a macro that selects and copies the whole document then I just have to paste into Bayscribe. It works great.

I've been using Instant Text for years but realized that there are probably quite a few macros I could create in Word 2010 to make certain repetitive commands a lot easier for me. To have the doctor, RN, resident, or whomever is doing the dicatation to do the demos rather than the MLS slaves? I'm wondering what method do you use in DQS to get the best line count for Mmodal? Do you mostly use the mouse/keyboard combo? Fixing errors on the fly or letting them stay until you spellcheck the entire document? If it's a they're/there/their type of error, obviously you have to fix it ASAP, but for the ones where your fingers just make a major flub that gets red lined, which do you find to be a better use of time? It seems that the platforms nowadays have all slowed down since many are used for the dual purpose of VR and transcription. I used to use ChartNet years ago. It was fast and efficient, and I loved it. Now I am on (another version I suppose) ChartNet again, and it is soooo slow to move from screen to screen, inserting cc's, demos, etc. that it actually makes me bored with my work. I really need someone to answer this. I have been accused of adding spaces to my documents, but my argument is that cutting and pasting the doctor's templates in a document used over and over (changing any parts he wants changed) is adding spaces. I did not do this on purpose. Has anyone ever had this type of issue before? Or am I alone? ...

Occasionally, I cut and paste an address of a physician into a letter document, and it pastes with a different font than my letter. I have to highlight that portion and change whatever I pasted in my document to the correct font. Is there a way to make that faster? Slows me down. TIA - Janet ...

I used to be able to copy and paste with no problem, but for the last couple of nights I have not been able to paste. I have no problem when I close the program and just use Word, just won't work in Edisscript. Which leads me to believe they did something to stop us from copy and pasting.
