Wouldn't it be more efficient - GimmeABreak

Posted: Jul 31, 2013

To have the doctor, RN, resident, or whomever is doing the dicatation to do the demos rather than the MLS slaves?  I mean, since they are getting paid a living wage (unlike the MLS slaves) and they already have all the pertinent info, like business entity, location, signing, etc, why aren't THEY selecting the copy requests, etc. from their own little drop-down lists, instead of having the hapless MLS slaves searching all over creation for a doctor they misspelled or mispronounced.

It's killin' me to look up all this stuff, trying to keep within the tiny parameters of LPH, line count, etc.  I don't mind the work.  I just want to be paid for it.

They COULD spell it, they have the chart right there in front of them. They should spell it as a courtesy, but then that's why they have MTs to come along and sweep and mop.

These companies could charge more for ESL dictators whom they know are not English savy, but they don't. Again, because they have the mop up crew.

They could also teach them the proper way to dictate into a VR system and have them view the results to correct what they are doing wrong too, but they won't, again because they have MTs and QA to do that.

But then again, they COULD pay us a fair and decent wage for having the knowledge of every medical science, pharmacology, and deductive reasoning too, but . . . They won't. The only answer is for all of us to get out of the industry and let them mop their own floors.

Another potential ineffiency/disaster they've never - even considered, when they - SM

alienate, frustrate, and enrage all their MTs, who type/edit such valuable medical documentation, is just how easy it is for even ONE little ol' MT to sabotage a whole lotta records. All one MT would have to do is just blast through an entire day's worth of VR dictations by not proofing, just letting them blow through unread, and letting the original enterer of the demographic data worry about whether it's right or not, and then let the chips fall where they may.

Imagine if an entire company's MTs all did that on the same day. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the board room the next morning!

And so what if we got fired? It's going to happen to us all anyway - likely within the next year. Might as well go out with a bang!

Often thought of that myself. Would serve them right. - nm

Are you willing to endanger someone's life with that? "NO" - Unfortunately, Nuance does it every day

and then blames the MLS'.

You're right...it's killing you to look up all that stuff. - It is also killing your paycheck

Since Mmodal Has Forced Us To Be As Efficient As Possible
Nov 12, 2013

I'm wondering what method do you use in DQS to get the best line count for Mmodal?  Do you mostly use the mouse/keyboard combo? Do you use the (annoying/ineffective/slow) feature that is supposed to jump the cursor to line up with the audio position where the editing needs to be done? Do you keep your right hand on the arrow keys and left hand on ctrl/alt/shift keys, moving the cursor past each word (likely the most efficient method, but moving your fingers near constant can lea ...

Correcting Spelling - Which Is More Time Efficient?
Nov 22, 2010

Fixing errors on the fly or letting them stay until you spellcheck the entire document?  If it's a they're/there/their type of error, obviously you have to fix it ASAP, but for the ones where your fingers just make a major flub that gets red lined, which do you find to be a better use of time?  I can't stand seeing all those red lines, so I almost always backspace and make the correction right away, but I'm wondering if that isn't more of a time waster than n ...

Who Thinks Their Platform Is Fast And Efficient?
Jun 06, 2012

It seems that the platforms nowadays have all slowed down since many are used for the dual purpose of VR and transcription.  I used to use ChartNet years ago.  It was fast and efficient, and I loved it. Now I am on (another version I suppose) ChartNet again, and it is soooo slow to move from screen to screen, inserting cc's, demos, etc. that it actually makes me bored with my work.  I can't seem to get momentum going like I did on the old ChartNet without VR.& ...

Is It Efficient To Transcribe In Word, Cut And Paste Into Another Software?
Dec 12, 2009

I have always worked in Word or an equivalent of, however, I have one account in another program that does not work well with my Instant Text.  The account is actually quite good and I could produce much more if I could take advantage of some form of production software.  Has anyone worked in Word and then cut and paste the work into the software and it was successful?  I can use Instant Text, but many of the functions do not work, which only makes it more confusing whe ...

You Wouldn't Believe What I Have To Do Where I Work
Aug 16, 2010

I've been employed by an orthopedic surgery practice for about 6 years now. I think it was after the first year, I started having to compose office notes from the paperwork the patient filled out (all of their history), plus the templates the provider filled out.  I hated it and protested to my office manager. Then gave up, then about a year later I asked her to talk to the doctor about his hand writing to no avail. One doctor never made me read his writing, he would fill out the templ ...

Wouldn't It Be Great
Mar 16, 2012

wouldn't it be really great if there was some sort of email address for us to contact our hospitals directly...without the M*Modal propaganda?  We could say "Dear Dr. ___, I understand you are really busy and dictation is low on your priority list, but if you could take an extra moment and clearly articulate your dictation, the reports would come back to you with less questions and/or errors."   I know...I know...quit dreaming.  It is really sunny and warm outside my window ...

They Wouldn't Have To Demand
Oct 02, 2012

they would put people on their strength worktypes and specialities instead of put us on what we are the weakest at and then complain b/c they are constantly out of TAT.  Just amazing to me how we were asked what our strengths and weaknesses were and after that email, I was put on my weakest out of everything.  Perhaps I am the only one to realize that if you were given the work that you are strongest at, you would be able to go through it faster, but not with Nuance, they seem to thin ...

ICD-10 course rather than be required to stay with them for 2 additional years after the apprenticeship, working whatever shift they feel like sticking you with?  I feel like the difference in the amount of money you'd be making in those 2 years with them versus anywhere else would more than pay for an online course.  I'm not seeing the draw to this. ...

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO MAKE EVERYTHING SO HARD!!!!???   i specifically got up today to log on for the hour of MOT.  then i see an email that says we don't need it, but its vague.  then another email says, we need it, but not until after 3 central time.  i even tried pulling in a 3:30 to 4 time from the swap board but it wouldn't let me.  my shift starts at 4.  so i wrote and said i'd just log in and do it and forget the swap board, but i'm told feel ...

Wouldn't It Be Nice?

if MModal would do just one thing....ONE THING...to make our jobs easier.  i swear they sit around and see what they can do to make everything single tiny little thing as hard as possible.  right now i'm talking about that freakin' time card and trying to enter PTO based on our NJA down time.  to make the times match up, i guess i just lie and make up times, just to play their stupid little make everything harder game. ...

Wouldn't It Make Sense
Mar 16, 2010

When you have a report that is with a difficult dictator and within the first few lines you have a blank you know you are going to send to QA - if the report is long and there are a few other blanks you might have to leave but might be able to get if you spent time researching, wouldn't it be better to not even waste time researching those blanks since all the lines are being counted toward your 5% submission rate - it would seem that it would be best to do the rest of the report as quickly ...
