I used to do it the low-tech way when I couldn't get one of my dictators off his tape machine for love nor money--but my desktop transcription tape machine had bitten the dust, and all I had was a hand-held with speaker, which of course couldn't be run with a foot pedal.
So I used to just turn on the recording software on the computer and set the microphone right next to the speaker on the hand-held, and push play.
You could also use a hand-held digital recorder, if you have one, and just playback on the tape machine (on speaker) and record on the digital recorder. Clear as mud?
Somewhere recently I read that someone else had some success with using an audio cable of some kind, going from the headphone jack on the transcriber machine to the microphone input on the computer. (?) I have no experience with that, and maybe the helpful folks at Radio Shack could assist with something like that....
(And the end of the above story on the dictator was that he was forced, finally, to switch to a digital recorder when my last remaining tape machine died and I said that's it, I'm not buying another one.)
Recording a micro to wave - DS

If you go to Radioshack and get an audio cable, you can then plug it into the mic plug of your transcriber and then into the back of your computer (another mic plug). I have Express Scribe and you can record directly into that, save, and then transfer to whoever. Just remember to unplug any headset, footpetal from the micro transcriber first and make the necessary adjustments to volume. I was very surprised how easily I was able to do it. Radioshack also has a $8.00 microphone that can also be used to record directly into Express Scribe from the providers office at the computer as a wave file and I have them transfer it to me over an FTP. Hope that helps.

Hi: I don't mean to be stupid, but I am in the same boat a lot of you are and I can't t take this anymore. I started applying at other places but I have never worked for a co. that didn't supply me with all computer equip. I have a newer Dell computer and I think it meets all the requirements most places are asking for and I have Word Perfect not MS Word. I have a USB foot pedal. I think I am ready to go for some places, but can someone briefly educate me on ...
Can someone point me in the direction of a very simple, easy to download and use, free voice wave player for transcribing test documents. Unfortunately I was one of the reduction in force letter recipients at Webmedx and now must do some testing. Thanks for the help and all the support we have received on this board, it is nice to be a part of such a supportive group. ...
I'm trying to find equipment/info that will convert microcassettes and mini cassettes to voice files. I found a company called Martel Electronics and they have exactly what I'm looking for but when you click on it to buy the equipment it skips over and goes to like a home page. I need something that will duplicate the tapes in speed recording time and not minute for minute or it will take me forever to convert. Any help would be appreciated. TIA ...
I am moving and want to keep the local doctor I type for by utilizing my WAV pedal and software. However, when I approached the doctor about this, she was wary of having me be hundreds of miles away and typing for her. She doesn't mind the format because she had a previous transcriptionist use it, but she was "local." Does anyone have any suggestions or comments to help me out with this? Thanks in advance. Anything would be appreciated. ...
I had a stroke five years ago and started using Dragon to transcribe after having done transcription for 30 years by typing. It works okay with Dictaphone, but I am at a loss as to how to make it work with wave files that come over the internet. As almost everything is done this way now, does anyone know if it is possible to use two sound cards, one for dragon and one for wave files or if there is some way I can make this work so that I can still work? Dragon can be a nightmare ...

TSM looking into transferring some of us to other TSMs. We lost a rather large account and have been running into OOW a lot.
Hoping I don't get called. I really, really like this TSM and don't want to have to learn another group of accounts.
Are there other areas that need to have more people on it or are we going to just push that group into more OOW? Hope they study this carefully. ...
My 7-yr-old computer finally needs to be replaced, and I found a good deal on a new powerful machine, but I do not want to lose all of my Word settings, including dictionary, autocorrects, autotexts, macros, etc. It has taken me years to build these files and they make my work go very smoothly.
If I install the same version of Word (2002) on my new machine, how do I transfer my customized Word program to the new machine so I can go right to work just like on the old machine?
When I have tried ...

Hi everyone,
I use both Word and WordPerfect. I have autocorrect entries in both Word and WordPerfect that I would like to transfer over to PC Shorthand. Since I'm new to PC shorthand, I've been reading it over. I know with PC Shorthand we can use the SHCNV.EXE to convert autocorrect.
My problem is that I am at a loss as to what the Word and WordPerfect auto correct entires are labeled or where they are stored in my computer.
I did a search and for Word Perfe ...

Good morning fellow MTs; I hope everyone is having a productive day! Lately I have been contacted by two different companies via email stating I had contacted them in the past with my resume. I am working but could always use something better right? So I proceed to see what it's about and you know you don't get answers to those questions regarding pay scales and pay frequency upfront usually even when you do ask so I followed their jungle of steps, wasting quite a bit ...
