Transcription Wave - Zenaida

Posted: Mar 14, 2013

Anybody out there work for or know about Transcription Wave? They advertise their transcription service beginning at $69 per audio hour and it seems like they mostly offer legal transcription. Why are they recruiting on a medical transcription site? Any clues? Thanks.

Pay - oldie

Probably because our transcription skills are similar to that of legal transcriptionists and since we make far less than they do - they can pay us less and with a little training get their work done for less! Any more I think bottom line earnings are the goal of most companies....

$69 per audio hour for the MT would be about 17.50 per hour, which would be quite good. That's not what they are PAYING, however. It's what they charge the client.

pay by the audio hour - MT 20 plus years

I don't think this pay will translate to a very good income. Think about it this way. The average MT types at about a 3 to 1 ratio. So for every 1 minute of dictation, it takes you 3 minutes to transcribe it. So 60 minutes may take you about 3 hours to complete it. Tat is about 15.00/hour. Not bad... But not knowing the quality of the voice file, the format you have to set up, do you know the content they are referring to or do you have to look up terminology, etc... I would bet for this type of position you can expect to earn about 10-12/hour if you are fortunate.
you missed the point - sm

$69 is what they charge the client - NOT what they pay the MT.

About your math: If it took 3 hours to transcribe one audio hour, that would be $23/hour. If it took 4 hours, that would be nearly $17.50/hour. A great rate any way you slice it; too bad they are not offering that, though.

$69 per audio hour is what they charge the client - - not what they pay the MT

I thought I just said that.

They also say they are US-based, but they - Me

Have a calculator for rates before giving work to the US. There is a company called TranscriptionLive too and their websites are practically identical. They share one address, which is an apartment complex in IL. There is really no detailed info available. All of the above tells me they aren't a company I'd even consider working for.

Legal transcription - Been there done that

The problem I had with working for a company doing legal and "other" transcription is that audio hours are different than they are in MT. Most tapes take a lot longer than the 3:1 or so ratio we could use when transcribing MT. One reason is that many of the files are very different, so your word expander doesn't help, unless you only work for just a few clients. Unless you do happen to come across a company that really pays well, you will be making Very low wages. The work itself can be very interesting, though.

Doc Wary Of Going From Tapes To Wave Files..sm

I am moving and want to keep the local doctor I type for by utilizing my WAV pedal and software.  However, when I approached the doctor about this, she was wary of having me be hundreds of miles away and typing for her.  She doesn't mind the format because she had a previous transcriptionist use it, but she was "local."  Does anyone have any suggestions or comments to help me out with this?  Thanks in advance.  Anything would be appreciated. ...

Dragon And Wave Files And I Can't Get It To Work.
