Doc wary of going from tapes to wave files..sm - typing bee

Posted: May 04, 2010

I am moving and want to keep the local doctor I type for by utilizing my WAV pedal and software.  However, when I approached the doctor about this, she was wary of having me be hundreds of miles away and typing for her.  She doesn't mind the format because she had a previous transcriptionist use it, but she was "local."  Does anyone have any suggestions or comments to help me out with this?  Thanks in advance.  Anything would be appreciated.

will she be confronted with having to re-dictate because the tape broke.

That was one of the selling points when I persuaded my local guys to switch from tapes to digital.

I also wonder if she might be persuaded if you remind her that somebody physically coming to her office to pick up tapes is not good for the environment... unless the person lives right next door and therefore does not have to get in the car to make the pickup....

Sounds like Marcus Welby, MD - sm

Does that type of doc still exist? Cassette tapes, pick up and delivery...reminds me of my first transcription job in 1991. San Bernardino, CA. Where oh where can does this still exist...Happy Town, USA?

tape transcriptions, will be laughed in the same way transcriptions are made now, namely narrative transcribing and even VR.
Change is inevitable.

When you say she used the same format - Typin_away

Do you mean the local MT used the WAV pedal and software and she is worried about the distance that she is sending the file over the computer?

I would assure her of your security measures, talk about ecription of the files so she knows that they are secure if that is the case.

Tapes To Wave Files
Jan 18, 2011

I'm trying to find equipment/info that will convert microcassettes and mini cassettes to voice files.  I found a company called Martel Electronics and they have exactly what I'm looking for but when you click on it to buy the equipment it skips over and goes to like a home page.   I need something that will duplicate the tapes in speed recording time and not minute for minute or it will take me forever to convert.   Any help would be appreciated.  TIA ...

Dragon And Wave Files And I Can't Get It To Work.
Aug 07, 2010

I had a stroke five years ago and started using Dragon to transcribe after having done transcription for 30 years by typing.  It works okay with Dictaphone, but I am at a loss as to how to make it work with wave files that come over the internet.  As almost everything is done this way now, does anyone know if it is possible to use two sound cards, one for dragon and one for wave files or if there is some way I can make this work so that I can still work?  Dragon can be a nightmare ...

Doctor Who Uses Tapes
Jan 30, 2012

I have a doctor that still uses tapes and refuses to go digital or call-in.  The problem is there is interference on the tapes and I can barely hear him.  They think it is my transcriber, which it could be, but I don't think it would be worth the investment to buy a new transcriber for tapes when hardly any doctors even use them anymore!  I need some opinions from my fellow MTs on this subject!  I risk losing the entire account of 3 doctors (2 are digital) if I don' ...
