What is your work-related New Year's resolution? - anon

Posted: Dec 19, 2011

I mean this post in all ernest, I am genuinely interested in hearing about those things that you might do differently next year to make things better than this year. I'll go first.

1. I plan to stay more focused on my work instead of checking in here, so much. I plan to accomplish this by removing my MTStars icon from my toolbar, thus removing my temptation to click on it and navigate here so many times during the day. I sat down the other day and analyzed how much money I'm costing myself by not staying focused for the full 8 hours and I was truly astounded.

2. I also plan to make a genuine effort to learn my client profiles so that I create a better quality document. I have worked for Medquist for 14 years and have at least a dozen accounts that I work on. I can honestly say I know 3 of them extremely well; the rest of the client profiles I know very little about.

3. I am going to invest in updating at least my 2 most frequently-used resources, a good drug book and an Op/Procedure word book.

4. I am going to keep my work space clean and organized instead of piled on with papers, notes, mail, and gum wrappers. I feel better and am more productive when my work space is clear and open.

OK, those are mine … what are yours?

I have a big one (at least for me) - MT2

I resolve to get something outside of the house in addition to my transcribing at home.
It is vital to know that even if only part time that there is a world out there and a desk which is mine, somewhere to go certain times a week and to know that I will be paid a certain wage which I am promised.
I have been working at home since the early 1990s and for a few years at the hospital, but it has gotten so my paycheck is always a guess. I never ever know what I am going to get. I have 2 at home MT jobs and that is fine, but my resolution is to go to an agency, (have to get real clothes first of course) after the New Year and make myself try to go to a job outside of the home. An office job. A clerical job. Something to make me feel worthwhile and human again, and a responsible person again. Then, I will know that although I get my MT pay and will still wonder what that will be, I will have something out there in the world which is real, tangible and something to hold onto for *real. I am scared, but I am going to do it!

I personally do not believe in making resolutions. Just be yourself, motivated and ready to explore new horizons of life.

I'm organizing to better use my tools and my brain more than I usually do - Not a NY Resolution But

I've been working recently to use the organizational tools I have better. I'm also looking forward to using my brain more than I have in the past.

Can I steal yours? Okay I do not have an MTStars icon on my toolbar or work for Medquist but I really need to do everything that you posted and love how you put these resolutions.... yep think I'm going to have to steal them:) Thank you for the postive outlook on the New Year and Happy 2012 to you :)!!!

I am going to have to steal your first 2 resolutions as well. I also resolve to get my positive attitude and outlook back even if this industry is not so good right now. I am also going to try to learn everything I possibly can about AutoHotKey to try to help automate as much as I possibly can. A lot of it seems above my head, but I'm going to try in earnest to learn more about programming to help in this respect.

YAY, I helped! - anon

I'm so glad my post helped other MTs and got them thinking about ways to make next year better! Especially now that we have so many things working against us in our work life, it's so important now more than ever to maximize every single opportunity to create more income for ourselves.

For me, if keeping my desk clean and free of clutter puts me in a better frame of mind and if not checking in here on MTStars as much helps me earn even $20 extra a day, that will be $100 a week. I was ahhhh-mazed when I sat down and really analyzed what I lose monetarily by being distracted. It was a real eye-opener.

New Year's Resolution - Another Job!
Dec 29, 2013

I hope I find another job, but if it happens that I am terminated or laid off, I really don't care any more! I just know that for my own sanity, I need to make a change. I was wondering how many other slaves to MMoral are wishing for freedom this year too. ...

MOT Related To Bankruptcy?
May 12, 2015

It's been my experience that when there's a deluge of work all at once to be finished up, it's because the hospital/company is about to switch gears, with the MT suffering the most. I'm not financial savvy, but I wonder if this latest MOT stuff is related to the recent bankruptcy, that possibly the reserve money to pay the MTs is running out, so the company is about to go under or sell out. Something's up for sure. ...

Related Lines Of Work
Aug 27, 2013

I've been in healthcare documentation for over 7 years. The well is drying up, it seems that almost nobody is hiring, and the ones that are want the whole class to be as good as the valedictorian, if you know what I mean (and the medical industry as a whole seems bound and determined to destroy employee rights). Can my experience get me something in legal transcription or something else more stable? I can't afford more schooling, I got bills to pay. ...

purchased a book on eBay. The member not only accepted my pay and did not send, it she was very rude about it. I think I have done all I can do, but I want to make sure. She is leaving me negative feedback simply because I left it about her. That is not fair and I have reported her. Oh and to let you all know, it is a seller going by amg585. I asked them where my book was and got a very rude response so am asking for a refund, but the fact they are leaving me ...

MQ Has To SEVERELY Cut Employee-related Costs And
Mar 22, 2010

There are severe legal ramifications if you put in writing that you agree to this cost cutting/salary control maneuvering by MQ. Essentially they are getting us to let them off the hook with these "ESSAYS." Please note on the email it states: "All entries become the property of MQ and may be used in future communications." Also, not to be outdone by their own salary slashing FTR program, they have also taken more time/money away from us as these are to be done on OUR O ...

Need To Vent (computer Chair Related)
Apr 27, 2011

My computer chair tore up, so I needed to get a new one. I tried some out at the store and got a cushy one. After I put it together and sat in it for 30 minutes, I had severe pain. It felt like my whole body went numb and tingly. So I had to take it back. I got a second chair and can tell it's not going to be comfortable and that I will need to take it back. I'm sick, tired, and frustrated about this. Not at the stores or the people that work there, because it's not their fault ( ...

Suggestion To Aid With Income-related Discussions.
Aug 10, 2012

I've noticed that we need some sort of standard reference or metric to use when we talk about income-related issues, and this metric should not merely reference dollars (or cents), but should relate this to a unit of time. At the end of the day, it's how much you earned per unit of time that really matters, and this the only sort of metric that takes into account all of the variables that a mere monetary reference such as "line rate" does not. The line rate pa ...

I wonder if anyone else has gotten her/himself into a predicament like mine. Instead of paying estimated quarterly taxes, I've been trying to pay a lump sum when tax time comes on Apr. 15 each year. It's a bad situation because I never have the amount that's due to pay. I've been on an monthly installment plan for 3 years, and I never miss a payment or pay late. At this point, I still owe for most of 2011 and all of 2012. I also have a full time ...

New Year, New Me!

Aug 17, 2013

My daughter will be driving and I can leave transcription/editing ! I just hope there is enough work to last that year. I love working at home. I've worked with some mean office women before who are backstabbing and downright evil, but at least I had security in my paycheck and paying my bills. This job has been great as far as being home with my daughter when she gets out of school and being home when she is sick, but now she is older and when she starts drivi ...
