Lanier, telephone service help-sm - anon

Posted: Jul 09, 2011

I am not sure which area to put this, as it isn't technical assistance I need, so I've put it here on the main board.

I receive my work through a Lanier station.  I have been through the ringer with my telephone service provider a few years ago and was eventually told that if I ever dial the number again I would be black listed and never be able to have any service from that company again (Windstream in 2007).  I was eventually able to get in touch with the higher ups and got them down from 5 cents a minute to 4.5 cents a minute.  That didn't work for me because I could get calling cards from Sams Club which equated cheaper than 4.5 cents a minute.  In the last 3 years, I was able to use Vonage.  I don't know how or why it worked but it did.  I had small issues with certain buttons sometimes not working, so I had to be very careful.  Suddenly, it stopped working.  I tried my local cable company, as they had a good deal on cable telephone.  It worked for a while and then stopped.  So, obviously vonage and the cable phone are not going to work for me anymore.  I wonder if has anything to do with the Lanier and its peripherals being dirty inside (I've had it since 2006) because I know a couple people who are still using Vonage or cable phone with the Lanier just fine.  I cannot afford to pay 4.5 cents per minute with my telephone service.

I know there are MTs out there who still use Lanier or at least something that requires them to have unlimited long distance.  I have to call to another state to work.  How are you able to do this?  Did you make a deal with your telephone company?  Are you using phone cards?  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  I need to work :(  I'm already using phone cards, but am down to my last and do not have enough money to purchase more right now...need phone cards to work, need to work to buy phone cards sort of a catch-22 happening.

I went to the website for comcast and entered my information to see if they had anything in my area. I didn't get anything come up, so I will call the 800 number and talk to someone hopefully.

I have a router that I use to share my internet connection with other things, like a Tivo, and 2 computers. I do not have the tivo hooked up anymore (unhooked that a long time ago).

Lanier - RNMT

I used to use my Lanier with Vonage and would just hit *99 before dialing the number and that did the trick for years. You might want to give that a try.

vonage lawful purpose-sm - anon

I looked into getting vonage again, so I could try *99. I found in their terms of service under lawful purposes, "You shall not use our service or device for use of an open telephone line as a monitor, intercom, or transcription service.

Vonage and Lanier - RNMT

I used it for years that way and never had a problem. I had 2 of their lines at one point. I even discussed what I did with a company rep, so that must be a new thing. Either way, *99 works.

Are You A Telephone Communicator Or Email? How Often Do You Hear From Your MTSO?
Sep 17, 2010

As an MT, I avoid the phone like a hawk to everyone! Friends, family, and coworkers alike, during working hours and during non-working times as well.  I HATE wasting my time talking on the phone period.  To me, my time is valuable and equates to literally pennies on the line.  Just wondering about how much communication you get from your MTSO and how much of it is actually pertinently top of the line necessary and/or how much can be weeded and cut out.  Are you being micro-ma ...

Lanier LX 219 Help
Dec 20, 2011

My company has recently taken on an account which requires me to use a Lanier LX219 transciption station. I received it and hooked it up. I am able to dial in and access the voice files; however, the foot pedal is not working correctly. When I step on the foot pedal, the audio begins to plan correctly; however, when I remove my foot from the pedal, the audio continues straight to the end of file and I cannot stop it. It then simply begins to start again from the beginning of the file and play ...

Considering a job with an MTSO that uses Lanier call-in system.  I am not familiar with this at all.  Can anyone give me the pros and cons of using Lanier?  Is the voice quality better or worse?  Hard to use?  Would I have to buy special equipment?  I would appreciate any info.   FYI:  I found this out on a "Geektech" board tonight.  They were talking about different digital voice/music files and he was saying wav files are much better qual ...

Personalized Service

Ugh, don't want to sound like a massage service, "We offer that personal touch" (wink wink). I'm just daydreaming, I mean brainstorming: How to beat the MTSOs, even on a small, micro-business scale. What does a typical doctor in his or her typical practice need as far as medical documentation? How can we do that better than an MTSO, or even self-serve EMR? The lady who mentioned in another post having a typing speed of 200 wpm, "fast as someone could talk" (wow) made me start thinking ...
