MagicJack and Lanier - LovetoWork

Posted: May 16, 2012

Hello!  I use Lanier to transcribe and need a landline to do so.  I also need to be out of town for family for a few days but will still be required to work.  My only option where I'm staying is the use of the MagicJack.  I don't know much about this.  I know the family I'm staying with uses it as their only landline "service" and it's unlimited long distance.   Does anyone know if I will be able to successfully plug my Lanier machine into the jack and work as usual?  Thank you!

reception with Magic Jack is really poor. I have it and can't really hear anyone on the phone; it cuts in and out. Sometimes it's better than others. I know for sure though that it can't be used to fax or transmit.

When I tried it with my Lanier, I could not make the foot pedal work, that is, start and stop dictation. It was a continuous dictation, no stopping. I returned it.

Thank you for the info. Is there ANY alternative that you're aware of that could make me mobile for these few days? Meaning, is there any type of phone service online I could use, ANY other option? I can't get work off for this time as the coverage is needed, but must be out of town. I really appreciate the help! I'll only need to use it for a few hours.

I dial in on a Dictaphone for up to 8 hours per day.  It is not a continuous connection but I do dial back in to the system around 10 times per day.  I am currently using Vonage but I wanted to find out if any other transcriptionists use the MagicJack - and if so, how well does it work?  Would anyone recommend it?  Thanks! ...

Lanier LX 219 Help
Dec 20, 2011

My company has recently taken on an account which requires me to use a Lanier LX219 transciption station. I received it and hooked it up. I am able to dial in and access the voice files; however, the foot pedal is not working correctly. When I step on the foot pedal, the audio begins to plan correctly; however, when I remove my foot from the pedal, the audio continues straight to the end of file and I cannot stop it. It then simply begins to start again from the beginning of the file and play ...

Considering a job with an MTSO that uses Lanier call-in system.  I am not familiar with this at all.  Can anyone give me the pros and cons of using Lanier?  Is the voice quality better or worse?  Hard to use?  Would I have to buy special equipment?  I would appreciate any info.   FYI:  I found this out on a "Geektech" board tonight.  They were talking about different digital voice/music files and he was saying wav files are much better qual ...

Lanier, Telephone Service Help-sm
Jul 09, 2011

I am not sure which area to put this, as it isn't technical assistance I need, so I've put it here on the main board. I receive my work through a Lanier station.  I have been through the ringer with my telephone service provider a few years ago and was eventually told that if I ever dial the number again I would be black listed and never be able to have any service from that company again (Windstream in 2007).  I was eventually able to get in touch with the higher ups a ...
