Posted: Apr 28, 2010
Looking to replace dying Lanier 800 Call-In System. Any suggestions? Any warnings against particular brands? Approximately 35 dictators, 5 on-site MTs, average of 2,600 minutes monthly of call-in. Thanks!!
My experience - MT in TX

Owned a very expensive Crescendo system that was amazing (still in my friend's garage in CA---could not get a buyer). You have to figure out costs.
Cost of the system you are purchasing
Cost of the telephone lines
Cost of the 800-number or long distance service
Maintenance
Life of the system
My Crescendo (Lanier, Dictaphone, any other system) was costing me $0.38 a minute after I factored in all the costs and Bytescribe (I went with a TASP) charged me $0.15 a minute). All I needed was a copy of their DocShuttle Administration program ($299) to monitor an FTP site they provided as part of their service.
They now have a program called WebShuttle with more features, worth taking a look. They even take care of the backup system when things go down. Seamless operation.
I have been with them for almost 10 years. Never regretted making the change for one moment.

Lanier Call-in System (sm) Dec 20, 2010Considering a job with an MTSO that uses Lanier call-in system. I am not familiar with this at all. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of using Lanier? Is the voice quality better or worse? Hard to use? Would I have to buy special equipment? I would appreciate any info.
FYI: I found this out on a "Geektech" board tonight. They were talking about different digital voice/music files and he was saying wav files are much better qual ...
Call-in Dictation System Feb 02, 2011I have never used a call-in dictation system before, but one of the offices we transcribe for is requesting that I get a system. I have looked at several systems, Dial Dictate, DigItel, and others. I cannot understand the language and can't figure out how much it would actually cost and how it works, etc. I do not want to have to get extra phone land lines. I would like it to record into the computer. VoIP or something like that, I think. Can anyone point me anywhere where I might get an ex ...

DigiTel Dictation System Quits Running. Help Apr 25, 2012I have a DigiTel dictation system, and it has simply shut off without warning lately, which has happened several times. I reboot frequently, and there is plenty of room on the computer. I have a 4-line system, which is fairly new. I had to replace the last one, which was malfunctioning after just a few months. This seems to be software-related however. Possible Microsoft security update being the cause? Today it shut down while a dictator was dictating several reports in a row.
Any help would b ...
Hosted Dictation System/voip Issues Sep 10, 2013Hi there,
I currently have a voip system in my office and it was working great for a year. Now no one can figure out why I have spotty dictation, talked to internet provider, voip provider, swapped out router, tech looked all around in the computer settings. I am pulling my hair out. If you have any suggestions on what this might be that would be great.
Is anybody using a hosted system and if so who it is and do you like them?

Is MT Dying? Dec 12, 2010I am formally trained and have worked as an MT for many years; however, I first could only get part-time MT work a couple of years ago and then the final layoff came. What I have noticed is that many MT positions are now going to the retiree, who can earn extra money, or the disabled, who can also earn extra money. Both of these individuals have a regular income whether it is retirement or disability. Is this the wave of future MT? I have also noticed that organizations (hospitals in particular) ...

I hope you'll watch this video about photojournalists. It's very interesting all on its own, but particularly how the major news agencies are refusing to pay for professional quality and using free amateur photos instead.
In particular, I would like you to observe what the expert Ed Greenberg says about how photojournalists are viewed by the news agencies - as "passive and childlike". People who are too timid to protest the way they are being treated. People ...
Hang MT As A Dying Profession. I'm Going To Be MA. Oct 30, 2012At least MA skills can be used for other things and can be a stepping stone to other careers, and you can get a da** job almost anywhere.
Sick of being sold down the river by hospitals whose administration doesn't have the stones to tell you they're getting rid of you, but throw out vague hints now and expect you to catch on, so 2 years later they can say "well we told you to look into further education..."

Lanier LX 219 Help Dec 20, 2011My company has recently taken on an account which requires me to use a Lanier LX219 transciption station. I received it and hooked it up. I am able to dial in and access the voice files; however, the foot pedal is not working correctly. When I step on the foot pedal, the audio begins to plan correctly; however, when I remove my foot from the pedal, the audio continues straight to the end of file and I cannot stop it. It then simply begins to start again from the beginning of the file and play ...
Lanier VoiceWriter Mar 29, 2010Hello,
Just wondering if anyone knows if a Lanier Voice Writer requires landline? Will it work on a digital connection? I'm familiar with Express Scribe and digital files but not Lanier thanks for any help.... I'm clueless. ...
When Do You Replace Your Keyboard Jun 14, 2011I'm trying to stockpile a 2-year supply (wishful thinking?) of Memorex TS1100 keyboards. I don't think they are being made any more, so I find them on eBay.
I use them untill all the print is off the letter keys, all the plastic is gone from several of the letters leaving the metal exposed, there is a piece missing on the space bar where my right thumb goes, and then I dump them. Do you think I should them longer than this. I've only ever had one STOP working (I ...

MagicJack And Lanier May 16, 2012Hello! I use Lanier to transcribe and need a landline to do so. I also need to be out of town for family for a few days but will still be required to work. My only option where I'm staying is the use of the MagicJack. I don't know much about this. I know the family I'm staying with uses it as their only landline "service" and it's unlimited long distance. Does anyone know if I will be able to successfully plug my Lanier machine into t ...

2-3 Newbies To Replace 1 Veteran MT Nov 02, 2010Just read another interesting article in that it is estimated that it will take 2-3 newbie MTs to replace 1 veteran MT. Something all these corporate MTSOs better start thinking about. Once they run all the veteran MTs off, find demand is shifting back to onshore transcription, then what are they going to do. Even if they pay newbies lets say a mere 6 cpl...that's 18 cpl if it takes 3 to replace 1 veteran, and the veteran makes probably 9 cpl (maybe 10) so it is costing th ...
Lanier, Telephone Service Help-sm Jul 09, 2011I am not sure which area to put this, as it isn't technical assistance I need, so I've put it here on the main board.
I receive my work through a Lanier station. I have been through the ringer with my telephone service provider a few years ago and was eventually told that if I ever dial the number again I would be black listed and never be able to have any service from that company again (Windstream in 2007). I was eventually able to get in touch with the higher ups a ...
