A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
The question is, would that include NTS or not? - Rainwoman

How closely tied are they? NTS could be sold to someone else perhaps. Why would Samsung want a transcription company?
It may not affect us at all. Just noticed it on news. - Annie Oakley

It certainly happened day 1 with Nuance. This industry has just been trashed!
To liquidate us? Perhaps? - rusty peelers

It is a question worth pondering. Could they be "selling us off?" or declaring bankruptcy like alot of companies do when they want a "legal" excuse to lay everybody off and not have to make good on all their "leveraging?" (debt)
Hostess "went bankrupt" (to avoid paying debts), laid everyone off, but you notice there are still Twinkies on the shelves? Samsung probably only really wants the rights to some of the voice apps that Nuance has so famously marketed as Dragon (and all of us know really sorta aren't great at all).
I think if any of you think for a minute Nuance ever wanted to own MTs you are badly mistaken. What they wanted were the cheapest software developers the world has ever known. We sit and "perfect" their voice recognition software every day for pennies. Can you imagine how in debt Nuance might be if they had paid real software developers for this work? (Or paid us even what we were really worth)?
We will never know the truth of what goes in the Nuance boardroom without being there.

You definitely hit that nail on the head. I read all about the possible sale of Nuance today, and other related articles. You are absolutely right about possibly never wanting the transcriptionists as part of the whole picture and I have always had the feeling we are temporary; for some of us, the pay was too good to be true after what we went through with Transcend. I believe the giants want a piece of that pie for VR only, and Nuance is just holding out for the right price. Oh, and interesting reading about the largest shareholder now. He mentioned a "shake up" is needed in the transcription management. LOL Imagine that...
Which article mentioned the "shake up"? - There is so much to read.

From the Boston Globe: "The Burlington maker of speech- recognition software has talked with several possible buyers, including Samsung Electronics Co., The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.
Samsung would not have much use for the other parts of the Nuance business, Ives said, such as its large business units that provide hospitals with medical transcription services and businesses with call center technology."
Could not see the whole article but - Nuance is shady enough to sell to India company
[ In Reply To ..]
Nuance is always wheeling and dealing to get more American jobs sent to India.
Nuance IS an Indian company. Not all companies working is - US are US owned. nm

How do you know this? I have looked - on the internet
[ In Reply To ..]
And found nothing to this effect. Nuance's Indian branch website says their parent company is Nuance Communications in MA.
I know we all want to believe an American company would not be so awful to its employees, but I'm afraid they are the ones who started up all this offshoring and nickel and diming and I can find no proof that we are employed by anyone except NTS which is part of Nuance Communications in Burlington, MA.
time for MTs to step up and comment, let the world see how N has ruined us - for using their VR "tool"
[ In Reply To ..]
that was supposed to make us more productive, instead sent most of us to bankruptcy court. I googled and now there are lots of articles out there.
Let's go get 'em girls!!
We are cleverly isolated from any contact - to keep us from organizing!

I go for days and never speak to a living soul even via instant messaging because we are not even permitted to know HOW MANY people are assigned to the same account as ourselves, let alone WHO they are! (They were very smart in this one regard).
I guess they know that we might compare notes (Hey, did you get any work today? I was completely DONE at 11, no jobs at all).
So sick of training their voice wreck I could puke most any day of the week. Lost all humanity to the job the day they bought out my former company where I was "permitted" to be on a first name basis with teammates at least!
we are isolated, yes, but we can shout to the world - in the comments sections of those N news articles
[ In Reply To ..]
just another outlet, maybe if enough MTs/MLS' voice our opinions, SOMEONE outside of the MT world will see what is happening to THEIR medical records and the skilled workers who strive to get them correct! Just maybe....
AMEN! - Pollyanna
[ In Reply To ..]
The isolation is part of the big plan! Remember we used to have a forum on the Transcend MLS site - they cleverly did away with that.
Been in the works for a while - not suprised

Ever since Carl Icahn began buying Nuance stock a sale, or some sort of shakeup, has been brewing. Sooner or later it will happen. However, the technology that is desired is the ones being utilized for cell phones, customer service sites, healthcare devices, etc. Due to very low margins, and high maintenance of accounts, the transcription section of the company would not be desirable to these types of buyers. A sale could leave the transcription section on its own.
On our own is what we are now... - with no advocates.

I mean, I'm not being argumentative but just thinking out loud. It sure would be nice to be owned by someone who at least knows what we do and why.

Is Nuance Up For Sale Aug 16, 2014
I just chanced upon this interesting article which suggests so.Nuance’s $250 million 2027 Convertible Notes redemption is either a signal of an imminent buyout or a red herring. If one read between the lines and disregarded the noise during Monday's earnings, a very interesting event was announced which could signal a buyout is on the horizon: Nuance is calling back all of their $250 million, 2027 Convertible Notes (at 2.7%).It is my belief that the redemption of these notes is in an ...
Why Nuance Communications Ate A Poison Pill Sep 20, 2013I'm with this guy on how ridiculous Nuance's CEO pay is and I can actually understand this video, kind of.
Nuance apparently enacted an anti-takeover provision limiting power of anyone with 20% or more share of stock to dilute their voting rights. They do not want that guy Icahn, who wants Apple to buy Nuance, to have power to persuade them to sell.
Also, Nuance are apparently actually trying to protect their right to pay huge executive compensation way out of whack with performance ...
Are Nuance Communications Executives Overpaid? Dec 03, 2013Here is an article of interest to stockholders of Nuance. Money quote:________
"For better or worse, every time you buy a stock, you're effectively endorsing the underlying organization's practices. If you are a Nuance shareholder, you're endorsing the fact that five executives have gotten rich at the expense of the company's profitability. This practice may have undermined shareholder wealth, which hasn't been to your benefit. In addition, this practice is not nec ...

The Articles In E-Perspectives (HPI) Are Worth Reading Jun 25, 2010I was so impressed with the quality of articles in e-Perspectives. This issue of e-Perspectives was finally reading worth my time. ...
Any Articles About Productivity Loss From EMR And VR Usage May 24, 2011Does anyone have any links to articles that explain the loss in productivity for physicians and their offices because they are wasting time with EHR/EMR's typing their own notes or spending way too much time editing their own voice recognition notes when they could be seeing more patients?

Open Letter To Transcend/ Rewards And Communications Mar 31, 2011Finally, after 2 days, I found the list of the new teams they created for communications and rewards. It is nothing about meeting the criteria for the current game being played, it is all about favorites..

Could You Talking Of "impending" Sale Please Post Some Info/proof? Sep 08, 2012It's just reorganization because of Nuance buying Transcend, as far as I can see, and we all knew that was coming. As far as MM buying Nuance, you have to be kidding. MM was just bought by Chase, and they are in bad shape financially. They (MM) refused an offer from an unnamed company prior to the sale, and that offer was much higher than Chase's offer, FYI. There was speculation that Nuance was the company, however, no proof.
