When to clock out OOW? - mtk

Posted: Jul 29, 2013

She and I had a few e-mails back and forth about when I should clock out OOW. I'm just...confused. I have been clocking out OOW after doing the usual protocol any time there isn't work and had no issues with that with my old TSM.

New TSM said that I only clock out OOW if I am quitting for the day and have no work. She told me checking in during my regular scheduled shift when OOW is "flexing" and so I don't clock out OOW.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but when you clock out OOW then the hours missed aren't counted against you, right? So, if i'm just clocking out like normal instead of OOW, it looks like i'm just not working my hours. I could be way off on this...sometimes I just don't understand the runaround e-mails I get, I can never get a straight answer.

What I do - new but old

What I do is I will go to my secondary and see if there is anything there, if not then I go and clock out and put reason being OOW. I will then go and do things around the house. I will check back in. As it is a normal work day for me, I don't have other plans so I really don't mind. I will do that up until my time to quit and then clock out. IF I want to make my 8 hours then I will work over and get it in and my TL has no problem with that or I can clock in early the next day to make up time missed. If at the end of my week, I don't have my 40 hours then so be it. Some people I have heard are told to use their PTO so it shows 40 hours, I have done that once a long time ago but to be honest I normally always make my hours by the end of the pay period and my TL has no problem with me doing that. I don't think they all follow the same rules. I love my TL - she is super nice and always accommodates me and my 2 accounts are very rarely ever out of work. In fact, I normally have to go to my secondary for a half hour or so every day and just type a few reports to help out. I am lucky in that both my accounts are pretty straight forward and I have a good percentage of straight typing mixed with VR

OOW Clock out - Transgal

I clock out as SOON as I'm out of work so that my LPH don't go down. Think about it. If you you do 100 lines in a half hour, then you're OOW and you stay signed in for 15 minutes before you sign off, that's 100 lines in 45 minutes instead of 100 lines in 30 minutes. I sign out every time my butt's out of the chair! It takes longer to get my hours in, but it's an accurate reflection of my working time.

My manager said you cannot punch in and out more than 2 times in and 2 times out per day? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
She said our group was punching in and out too many times. Also that is it a rule to put in OOW and wait 15 minutes for work? when I have all my accounts in my queue and I can clearly see there is no work.

The other option is to punch out and ask if you can flex, but still you can only punch in twice for in and twice for out in one day.

I guess I'm in trouble today, then, lol. nm - wannie

way they set it up.. - anon

I was talking to my TSM about this. They want ppl to clock out w/o marking OOW if they are coming back/flexing because every time someone marks OOW those are all added to reports that are generated and get sent to ppl who look over and see -- "Gee, look at all these people OOW, we better make them get 4th and 5th accounts."

So -- if you plan on flexing, don't mark OOW, only mark OOW if you aren't coming back for the rest of your shift, otherwise too many OOW and you will get more and more accounts (unless you want a whole bunch, then go ahead).

That makes sense... - but...

Since I am not being paid to sit and wait, and every minute I'm on the clock without production lowers my lph count and hence my PTO pay, I will clock out promptly and let the world know this company is not providing me employment as agreed upon. Not that it does any good but it feels better.

I have 2 accounts. Both of them have been out of - wannie

work many, many times at the same time. Have asked for an extra account, but still don't have one. If I run out of work because of lack of work, I will clock out as OOW so at the end of the week it doesn't come back to bite me in the hiney. I don't want it to look like I just didn't work. I want them to know why I clocked out.

Look at your employee manual. sm - what the heck

It spells it out exactly what you are supposed to do. Why are all these TSMs making up their own "rules"? Wow...Glad my TSM is following the handbook.

How I was told - Annie

I asked my supervisor about this after 1 hour when I only did 4 reports - as following the OOW protocol (type a report, wait 15 minutes, etc). Those 4 reports did NOT equal my LPH requirement and would thus, DROP MY LPH way, way way down. I was told multiple punches are fine. I sometimes punch in and out 5-6 times an hour if the work is really low.

What I was told - new but old

I punch in and out as many times as I need to but on the first punch out I indicate OOW so that covers me for the rest of the day. I don't put it down anymore but if it comes up later it does show I reported being OOW but only generates one report out to my TL and not 8 or 9 but I also punch in and out as I don't want the time against me not typing

Time Clock
May 22, 2012

The requirement for ICs to use a time clock is apparently to protect the service from being sued for unpaid labor, right? If you sign in honestly, i.e. whenever you are doing anything for this job with the service, tech tweaking, software installation, training, spreadsheets, research, phone calls, etc., etc., etc., it would put you into overtime and you are fired, right? I'm just curious if anyone is given written instructions to sign in ONLY when your fingers will be pounding the ke ...

KEYSTROKES TIME CLOCK
Oct 03, 2011

It is my understanding from an attorney that if we are required to sit and wait for the work that is considered time worked.  Keystrokes wants us to keep track of ONLY the time spent typing, any time spent NOT typing is NOT considered as time working according to them.  You would have to rack up a lot of time just typing to get in those 40 hours in order to get paid overtime.  By the way I have never been paid overtime even after 40 hours and when asked if I would receive it the anwer was ...
