TTS - Clock in and out - New to TTS

Can anyone tell me why we need to clock out each time we do work with out hands off the keyboard? I asked if we had to clock out for every Google search, demographic research, doctor name database, etc and was told that we did have to clock out for any time off keyboard. Now I'm concerned if they even pay for work done off the keyboard. With all we have been through with these MTSOs, I would not be surprised if they did dock for research, etc. It's also very time consuming to have to clock in and out on every single report.
Been there awhile, never have done this - Never been asked either

[ In Reply To ..]when you are doing a demographic search, adding CCs, looking up past reports, or doing a Google search. Either they misunderstood your question or you misunderstood their answer. You can do those functions usually in under 2 minutes while you are still in your job and the clock keeps ticking. What they probably meant is if you are not keyboarding or using your pedal for a period of time (I was told 2, 3, and 4 minutes by 3 different people), the system stops counting your work time BUT your shift includes an extra hour to compensate for any time spent off the ticker and for breaks (for which you do log off). I have no problem putting in 8 hours of work time in about 8-1/2 to 8-3/4 hours and that is with doing searches, etc., and taking a couple of short breaks. Don't worry about it.

[ In Reply To ..]I just read the last sentence of your message, and I hope you've already figured out that you don't log off and on again after each job. Once you have checked that everything is okay, like your demographics, the patient's age, the correct job type and episode and you have done a quick look at your whole document, you do ALT-U and it spellchecks your job then asks you if you want to send it off. If you see something that needs fixing, you say no, do your fix then do ALT-U again and say yes. It will upload that job and send you another. There is no logging on and off between jobs, it's one job after the other. You only log off if you want to take a rest/meal break.

When To Clock Out OOW?

She and I had a few e-mails back and forth about when I should clock out OOW. I'm just...confused. I have been clocking out OOW after doing the usual protocol any time there isn't work and had no issues with that with my old TSM. New TSM said that I only clock out OOW if I am quitting for the day and have no work. She told me checking in during my regular scheduled shift when OOW is "flexing" and so I don't clock out OOW. The requirement for ICs to use a time clock is apparently to protect the service from being sued for unpaid labor, right? If you sign in honestly, i.e. whenever you are doing anything for this job with the service, tech tweaking, software installation, training, spreadsheets, research, phone calls, etc., etc., etc., it would put you into overtime and you are fired, right? Recently new to KS and have a ? If I am scheduled three 8 hour days at 24 hours a week and I sit her most nights for 8 hours but only get maybe 20 reports but I stayed clocked in because when trained I was told since I was not at 40 I could stay clocked in as they just did not want anyone in overtime. So, now if we have to go to the bathroom or some other thing that pulls away from the computer, we dont clock out otherwise we will be locked out for the shift? It is my understanding from an attorney that if we are required to sit and wait for the work that is considered time worked. Keystrokes wants us to keep track of ONLY the time spent typing, any time spent NOT typing is NOT considered as time working according to them. You would have to rack up a lot of time just typing to get in those 40 hours in order to get paid overtime. The truth is KS is being sued for not paying overtime. KS does not have time records and that is why it is being implemented now. I myself know overtime pay was not offered for anyone taking extra hours on my account. I also have e-mails to that effect.
