"Skip the scary movie marathon and work overtime!" - FrustratedMT

Posted: Dec 13, 2013

Anyone else get a status update that included "Skip the scary movie marathon and work overtime"?

Them constantly asking for OT is what's scary and full of horror!

But I need the money, so I guess I'll batten down the hatches and "find an hour or two before or after my shift" to help them out!  Heaven forbid the managers ever hop on and transcribe!  But I know they don't because when you ask them a simple question about account specs, they have no clue!  If they typed on these accounts, even once a month, they'd know some of the basics!

I used to work for another company that would threaten to pull anyone from the account that didn't do extra - the emails were horrid, but that email you are talking about I actually thought was funny and it didn't phase me at all. It was kind of nice to see a different way to try and get people to work. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of issues with Nuance. I would love to have an MT on instant messenger that was actually on my account to ask questions instead of asking TLs and TSMs on spark, which is monitored. :)

If you know anyone on your team, email them on their MM email and ask if they would be willing to give you their personal email to add to your own personal buddy list so you can IM them for help and visa versa. We used to be able to do that before Edix became Spheris and Spheris became MM. MM is afraid MTs will complain about them to each other. Besides, no doubt IM would be monitored just like compay email is. Also, do you utilize your own internet browser, i.e., Charter, AOL, etc. to search terminology and drugs? It only takes a few seconds and saves a lot of frustration.

Quirky Movie That Reminds Me Of Transcriptionists
Aug 08, 2010

This movie is called "The Gleaners and I." It's a French movie. It's all about people who "glean" things that other people throw away, and survive that way. I was thinking about that earlier this evening. My queue was emptied out, but I decided to just wait around for a little bit. Another job did come in, about $1.50 worth of lines. Then I wondered, was it worth waiting 25 minutes to do that. That equals about $3 an hour. It made me think about what length you will go to just to get a ...

A Movie With An Interesting Parallel Theme
Sep 15, 2013

playing on TV right now.  It's called "Patterns".  It's a 1956 movie about a big business, and the main theme seems to be how this formerly successful, ETHICAL business now run by the less-ethical son of the original owner, and a 62-year-old Vice President, Mr. Briggs, is being forced out by continual harrassment and abuse.  Listen to Mr. Briggs' speech about what has happened to the business, and why he won't be forced to resign.  It sure rang a bell wit ...

Skip Markers
Jan 25, 2010

I got a call from MQ regarding the amount of <skip> markers in my ASR reports.  I was told that there shouldn't be more than 3 to 5 skip markers in any given report???  This sounded absolutely ABSURD to me and I told them to give a listen to some of the reports I edit and explain to me how exactly I am suppose to accomplish that!  Has anyone been told that or something similar?  It doesn't seem to me that the "ASR machine" will learn if we simply do correctio ...

Should I Skip The RHIT And Go For RHIA?
May 09, 2012

So, I'm confused and could use some advice.  I am in an accredited HIT program all online to receive my AA degree and sit for the RHIT.  I have just two semesters left to complete the program.  I am very unhappy with the education I have received, and I am not sure I could even pass the RHIT.  I am considering quitting this program and enrolling in a bachelor program where I can sit for the RHIA (it's a healthcare informatics degree through WGU).  I am wonderin ...

Residents Skip Lectures To Chart
Oct 16, 2013

"Maisara Rahman, MD, who helps train family-medicine residents at a county hospital in Moreno Valley, California, noticed a while back that attendance at her lectures was falling off sharply. Dr. Rahman hadn't become boring all of a sudden. Other faculty members were noticing a lot of empty seats during their talks as well. Had the family medicine residents caught a slacker virus? No, it turns out that they were skipping lectures, lunches, and even an occasional rotation, said Dr. Rah ...

OMG, Very Scary
Apr 29, 2010

A friend of mine was just fired from MQ with no warning whatsoever! Apparently she had CC'd the wrong doctor (very similar-sounding names, ESL dictator). I know this is a major HIPAA violation, but everyone makes mistakes...we are only human. My friend always had excellent QA audits above 98%, 15+ years as MT, no other issues with her work. You would think they would look at this on a case-by-case basis, consider past record, when it comes to firing someone on the spot like that. It is ...

Scary, Scary ASR
Sep 10, 2010

doctor clearly states "a fair amount of adhesions;"  ASR transcribed "some adhesions."  That is so bizarre to me and if I wasn't really LISTENING and was just flying through proofreading, I would have missed it.  Not particularly treatment-changing for the patient, but certainly incorrect.  ASR just flat made up dictation there.  Absolutely amazing.  If I did that, I would be fired.  ...

Scary Software
Feb 17, 2010

During my first visit with a new doctor yesterday, I wondered why I was not presented with the usual "book of history" to fill out beforehand.  As the nurse was asking questions, she was busy clicking on pull-down menus, etc.   On her computer screen was software called SOAPware, and there, formatted into SOAP format and all, I saw my replacement.  Later, in the exam room, the FNP was using the software as well as we went along, after exam, labs, etc.  I made a comment ...

I was just searching the web to find a type of surgical camera and found this on a used equiment site... Check This Out, Very Scary
Nov 13, 2010

A doctor who cannot pronounce encephalomalacia! She fumbles around with it for a while and then says "oh well, I will just spell it" and did so like she was asking a question (did spell it correctly though). This is an English speaking dictator with an MD credential.  Must be a resident as she has a co-signer but, my God, she should be more familiar with terms by now you would think.  She also fumbles around with common medication names and mg instead of mcg for Synthroid. Scary VR Error
Aug 26, 2012

VR:  has been taking a lot of Tylenol. Should be:  has been taking allopurinol.  VR's way of "thinking" is getting a little bit frightening.  It seems like it's changing context to accommodate its own errors.  I've seen it insert words and phrases that are clearly not dictated but would "fit" with the mistyped term. ...

Scary Thought...
Oct 03, 2012

First, VR was going to replace us.  When that didn't work, now we -- American MTs -- are fine-tuning VR so the Indian MTs can replace us.  And to make sure this happens, MTSOs are paying us unfair, unlivable wages to force us out, thus forcing clients to accept what they get from the Indian MTs because there won't be enough qualified American MTs left. I know this really isn't news, but I thought I'd share anyway. ...

This Doctor Needs To Retire, Scary!
Nov 02, 2010

I have this doctor I've been working with for a few years through a company, who is very old.  He frequently loses his place while dictating and often doesn't make sense.  Today has been bad already.  One report he dictated 3 sentences that did not make sense, nor was it clear what he was really trying to say.  Another report he dictated the exam, paused, started to dictate exam and then realized he already did, started with the impression, dictated #1, t ...

Not Getting Overtime Pay???
Feb 21, 2011

I work second shift, so, due to the time change from PST to CST, after 10 pm my time, the last hour of my shift shows up as the next day. I worked 1.5 hours this morning and then my regular 2:30-11 pm shift, so I figure I should be paid for 1.5 hours overtime, but my calculated time (I recently discovered this on the current time card page) shows me as only getting credit for 0.5 hours overtime with 8 RT (Regular time) + 0.5 OT hours showing up on Sunday and then 1 hour showing up on Monday as ...
