Nuance - Rate Of Pay - Hesitant Transcriptionist

Posted: Nov 10, 2014

Hello -

I am a long time salary employee for an orthopedic group that is laying off all inhouse transcriptionists and outsourcing to Nuance.  Does anybody know the production line rate of pay offered by Nuance?

Not sure exactly but. sm - Anon

SR (speech recognition) is probably around 0.04 and straight transcription is probably around 0.08. I was outsourced from a hospital making $18.35 an hour and found a job where I'm making around $8-10. Some make more, some make less. To be hired by Nuance, you pretty much have to be able to transcribe acute care because you'll get all work types, and there is no guarantee you'll be doing your old orthopedic work. If I were you I'd apply for unemployment and try to get training in another field. They'll help with that. If you're old enough to take early SS retirement, do that and look for a job to supplement SS.

Nuance has plenty of clinic accounts on their - ambulatory side...

I don't know about now, but they had an ad on their website not too long ago looking for help on the ambulatory side, which is all clinic work.

Plenty for now, but will be off-shored as soon as VR is trained well - enough for our Indian "partners" to handle.

They off-shore all accounts as soon as the buy-out contracts with the hospitals can be re-negotiated to permit it. You will be moved around fairly regularly as this occurs.
But the work does come back on Indian holidays! nm - acuteMLS

Sounds like you would be on the ambulatory side, which is clinic transcription. I can't say the exact amount but it's either right at 4 cpl or a tiny bit over and when I say a bit over, I don't mean like 5 cents per line I mean something like 0.0432 per line for speech recognition reports and typically 8 to 9 cents per line for straight typing.

However, you will not likely get much straight typing unless your account specifically does not use voice recognition. But in most cases, 99% of the accounts are voice recognition.

Nuance uses eScription, which is a darn good platform for voice recognition so it is possible to make a reasonably good paycheck with the low line rate; however, QA can be stressful from what I hear which will slow you down and hinder your production. Also, keep in mind that regardless how good your line count is, you are likely still going to take a sizeable pay cut depending on what you make now.

Also, Nuance is changing their compensation plan between now and January. Upon speaking to a recruiter, it was my understanding that pay would be based on production and quality scores. So if you have good quality scores and meet or exceed production, you will be compensated a higher line rate for the pay-period. The way it was explained to me is that your pay per line could fluctuate from one pay period to the next. However, she didn't seem too certain how it worked and said nothing was official yet and that they were still waiting to find out sometime between now and January. That was just my understanding of it, I could be wrong, but that's pretty much the way it was explained to me.

Check the Nuance board for better answers. Good luck.

Acute MTs make 4.5 cpl for VR and 8.5 cpl for straight transcription.

I believe clinic/ambulatory make 4 and 8, respectively.

Nuance announced a new pay plan that will be effective sometimes around the new year, so those rate are going to be changing (most likely for the worse).

No one says they are renegotiating your contract. I assume you are ICs. Am I wrong?

If you are an IC, I would think this is against the law not to renegotiate your contract. I mean they could change your rate weekly, daily or whatever and you wouldn't know for sure unless it is in a contract.

Boy, what an awful way to treat good American MTs. I feel for all of you.

I am an IC and my pay has been cut way down and I had no real way of getting the better deal. I feel very used and ABUSED too.

Pretty sure all Nuance MTs are employees. So, it sucks, but yeah they can lower pay rates without prior notice. No contracts to re-negotiate.

Wmx/Nuance Upcoming Rate Changes
Nov 05, 2011

Shall we make our guesses?  Wonder if the new pay scale will be an across the board percentage reduction in rates or will everyone be moved to the bottom rate of 8 and 4?  What about the people recently hired who make 8 and 4?  Will they go even lower? My personal opinion (pure speculation on my part) is they might just reduce all shift differentials and perhaps jack with the incentive plan some more.  I know they were going to roll out this new pay scale soon, but the anti ...

Dec 12, 2011

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

Pay Rate - Rad MT

What a shock to wake up this morning and realize the almighty "Q" has just sent me hurling into bancruptcy!  My husband lost his $75,000/year job 3 months ago and just found another but only making $8.50/hour.  As we don't live beyond our means, we thought that would at least let us catch up on the major bills.  But now I'm going from $1.65 a report to $1.20 a report.  That's a MAJOR cut in pay ($1,000 to $3,000 PER MONTH).  This is devastating and I feel ...

VR Pay Rate
Oct 11, 2011

I recently read a job posting that required 150 lph for straight type and 225 for VR - Does this make sense ?  These companies are using the excuse that we should be able to produce "twice as many lines" with VR - thus - HALF the pay.  If that is truly the case, then why in the world would the line requirement not reflect that as well.  Obviously, these companies know VR is not nearly as productive for the MT as they claim; however, I would venture to guess with the MT making hal ...

Going Rate For IC?
Jan 05, 2012

After nearly a decade of working with Webmedx, I like many others am looking for extra work to supplement what I will be losing with Nuance.  I have a chance to pick up some part-time IC work, but I have no idea what a good acute care IC rate is.  Ten years ago, I charged $0.12/line.  Is this still an okay rate?  More?  Less?  I don't want to ask for too much and have them laugh at me, but I also don't want to sell myself short. Thanks for any advice! ...

Rate Of Pay
Jan 08, 2012

Wow, I'm an independent contractor and was looking at the job seekers board to maybe take on another part time job.  The rate of pay is still 7 to 8 cents per line??  This seems a bit ridiciulous.  I mean 10 years ago when I started with an online company, this is the rate of pay they started you out at!  I work for local doctors and charge starting out no less than 11 cents per line, especially as an independent contractor where you get no benefits or paid time off. &nb ...
