I found out what hospitals are actually paying Nuance per line - SM...

Posted: May 20, 2015

Recently found out that two Chicagoland hospitals who outsourced to Nuance are paying them a whopping 15 to 15.5 cents per line for VR.  With this being an almost virtual world now and very little overhead, it is a terrible injustice for Nuance to pay their MTs only a fraction/peanuts of what they are getting paid.

While Nuance owners are laughing all the way to the bank, it is time for every Nuance MT to formulate a "get out of jail/Nuance" plan ASAP.

I was told this info by an insider who actually said that it would have been cheaper for the hospitals to have kept their own employees including paying them full benefits than to sign a contract with Nuance.  They thought there were so smart and were going to save the hospital money!  They are actually paying MORE.  Hah!

Yes, but the eventual plan is what matters - to them.

They are no longer outsourcing just to save money on salaries and benefits. They are saving on HR time and costs, supervisor time, the cost of providing space, equipment, training, and a host of other things. They outsource with promises of better turnaround.

In addition, they are now outsourcing in preparation for converting their dictation to front-end SR. Nuance is the big player in that arena. They currently have a major contract with the federal government, rolling it out at hundreds of federal medical centers. After that, it will be other hospitals. No MTs or "editors" are necessary with this, eliminating everything except the cost of the software.

While the above may be true, even front-end software is riddled with mistakes by the health care employees at all levels. I heard 20 years ago we would not be here today and we are. Nuance will forever continue trying to get rid of us and the best they are going to get is all MTs being from India if that is indeed their goal. They would not be hiring 3000 MTs in India if the ultimate goal was to completely eliminate the MT, they are just trying to eliminate the US MT. JMO

That's what my former clinic did. All MTs were - laid off, & they went to 100% front-end VR.

They make it cost prohibitive for the facilities to send work for editing because the main goal is for the physicians to self-edit. Ideally, they'd like all facilities to institute a 100% self-edit policy. We are just an ancillary piece to the main goal, which is to sell their software to every hospital on the planet with endless costly upgrades. The facilities think the technology will help with efficiency, but they neglect to realize the cost of removing the last safety precaution of having an MLS read the report which ensures it will be as error-free as possible.

One more thing - J.J.

Also, cutting our pay and forcing us to do twice the work to make the same amount of money has alienated and demoralized the workforce here at Nuance. I would imagine it has caused the MLS to have little loyalty or concern for either the company or its clients.

You really should check out my blog J.J. https://zigsbitzandpieces.wordpress.com/ It concerns this whole situation. These companies need to pay us attention and pay us descent wages. I'm trying to start a unification just as the fast-food and Wal-Mart employees have done. So please share. We can make a difference.

Thanks,
Andre

pay us attention ... pay us descent wages ... start a unification? MT or QC? Either way, you need some English/spelling lessons.
LOL! pay us "descent" wages is what they are ALREADY - doing!!!!
[ In Reply To ..]
the definition of descent: action of moving downward, dropping, or falling.

Thanks for the laugh today

For A School Paper: What Are Hospitals Paying For In-house MTs Currently? Sm
Jun 28, 2013

I have to compare 20 or more hospitals in different parts of the country. I only need the state, not the city or name of the hospital. I am supposed to list the hourly rate and if there is an incentive plan. I know that these jobs are getting more and more rare, and I know that I probably won't be able to get one, but I really want to get a good grade on this paper, and I don't know where else to ask. Thank you in advance. ...

The Hospitals I Work For Are Going Over To Nuance -
Apr 27, 2012

I've been an IC for almost ten years, and just found out that the hospitals I work for are going to be outsourced to Nuance.  It probably won't happen for a while - they're are still in the very beginnings of transition.  When it happens we will be given the option of staying on as employees of Nuance.   From the posts I've seen on the Main Board this scares me a little bit.  I guess I would like to get the inside scoop of whether I want to work for ...

Transcription Doctors' Ad For Paying 3 Cents A Line
Apr 16, 2012

Hey, I thought the moderator "unposted" the jobs that were posted here if they paid less than 4 cents a line.  I wonder whatever happened to that?  It seems like I read that somewhere, anyhow.  At 3 cents a line, TTD is  beginning to bump up against the states' minimum wages.  The only way that I see that they will be able to get around that is by saying they will hire independent contractors only, and I don't think we are all so stupid as to take 3 ...

I Found This Old Post On Line Counting...which I Truly Believe
Dec 20, 2011

You are misinformed. DocQScribe is an excellent format to work on BUT it counts in a way that will shock you. AND can change from day to day, minute to minute. The program that is used to control it is called DocQMANAGE. In DocQManage are things you will not believe. You might have access to PART of DocQManage, but not ALL OF IT. They assign a divisor which can mean that you are TOLD that you are paid on a 65 character line, but will not be. There are so many options in there for l ...

I Work At Nuance And Just Found This Page....
Nov 07, 2014

I was googling something and found this board and then noticed the Nuance board.  At first I was intrigued but after reading through all the older posts on Nuance, I have to say WOW.  Now I wish I hadn't have found this place.  LOL. I wonder why there is only a board for Nuance and MModal?  Seems like there are a lot of unhappy MTs at these 2 companies I guess.  I am NOT surprised though. I wonder just how many MTs from Nuance actually read/post on here? ...

We Just Found Out Our Hospital Jobs Have Been Outsourced To Nuance.... Sm
Feb 20, 2015

We just found out our hospital jobs are being outsourced to Nuance.  I am really worried.  From the webinar we attended, Nuance said all the right things and it didn't sound too bad, but it sure doesn't mesh with what I'm reading here.  We have to make a decision about whether to go with them or not by next week, and I don't feel like I have all the answers I need yet.  I feel like I'm being pressured.    I want to ask them questions b ...

Nuance Line Counts
Jan 17, 2015

I am a Nuance newbie since the end of last year.  When I add my lines I have done from my accounts for one week, 1/3-1/9, I have 6868 but on the timesheet I see my total lines are 4397.  I'm glad to see I'm finally in the .08 bracket, but I don't understand the line discrepancy at all!  I have added my lines up in the past and it has matched the timesheet lines.  Has anyone else had this happen?  I'm about to scream ...

Does Anyone Think The Nuance Line Count Is Fishy?
May 24, 2012

I think the lines are padded.  After typing all day at break neck speed, I am shocked at the end of the day how low my line count is.  I work for another company doing the same thing, just as fast, and I get double the lines.  Well, we will never know because at Nuance we can't copy the report and paste it into Word to get a line count because it is blocked, I think they do that on purpose and that way we can't check our lines to see if it is accurate, which I know ...

What Happens At Nuance If You Are Part-time And Cannot Always Make Line Count?
Apr 26, 2013

I can do it most of the time, but every now and then I miss it, sometimes by as much as 20 lines per hour. I have had 1 email asking that I use my time more productively and make the line count. I actually do use my time as productively as I can. I admit, although I have done this for years, I am not great with VR editing. Also, with the high standards and deductions in FIESA, I really listen and listen again to much of my transcription so I don't fall below wanted numbers there. I am doing ...

Before Nuance, What Was The Highest You Were Paid Per Line/digital Minute/etc.

I'm just curious, I've been in this business for a long time now and haven't seen a raise in QUITE some time, but I sure as he!! saw higher paychecks than I see here. So, I'm curious.
