Does Nuance pay out your unused PTO when you quit or do you lose it? Trying to plan for my escape and want to know what to expect. Hey, a gal can dream! Thank you in advance.

When an active employee uses PTO, they are paid and taxed at the normal tax rate. If you receive PTO payout because you terminate your employment, that payment is taxed at the supplemental rate (unearned income), which is MUCH higher.

So if it were me, I'd take all my remaining PTO while I'm still an employee, wait to get paid for said PTO, and THEN quit. That way you will end up getting that PTO taxed at the high supplemental income rate. ;)

Depending on what state you're in, they may or may not be required to pay it out. Most states say that if the employee handbook says they pay out, then they are required to do so. Very few states require it across the board. And it depends on where the employee is sitused, not the company.

So the real question is, what is Nuance's policy on PTO payout?

checked the ADP site on the scheduled pay date after my notice and it was not there. I called the number listed on that site, left a message and someone from Nuance payroll got back to me real quick. She said she did not have any info that I had quit. I told her I had given my 2 week notice. That was on a Monday. A couple of days later FedEx showed up at my house with a check.

I wanted to NOT use it as PTO on the job as I considered it my severance pay. Just a mind game to help me through that lousy place. But they paid it, not a problem at all.

I'm in Texas and only worked for Nuance for four months. I didn't expect any PTO pay and was surprised to receive it.

Handbook only states request 2 weeks notice and - PTO is NOT to be used for the

notice, so I would assume (silly though with Nuance to assume anything) that PTO is paid out separate.

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. I quit Nuance on Saturday and today have received 2 offers for employment elsewhere. One is in the transcription field and the second is something completely different. Think I will go with the new field. I need a change. There are plenty of minimum wage or a little better paying jobs out there in transcription though if one wants to stay with that type work. We recently had a new account start and the doctors often do not dictate all the main headings of the template that loads. The hospital keeps changing their mind as to keep it unused main heading in versus take it out if not dictated. Typically, I have always removed it if it was not dictated. But what do most of you do? I am so serious. Everyone needs to quit transcribing for a while. We need to get this industry back to where we could actually make a decent living. I'm juggling 2 MTSOs as an IC. I cannot sustain this for very long, the plan always was to stick with the better, more stable one and phase out the other one. At the first company (I'll just call it FC), the pickings were slim. They said that once I clear QA, I'll get a back up account and running out of work will not be an issue. Since the last thread is down the page I thought I would add this. I worked on very difficult accounts for the last 5 years and never had a problem with audits (failed 1 or 2 in 5 years). Then at the beginning of this month I was switched to a new BOB, was audited after 8 days on the account (98.1%) and immediately put on 100% QA which means I would be working for less than minimum wage.
