Did anyone else just agree to a nightshift job for a large hospital - account in Connecticut?

Posted: Sep 18, 2014

...in case there is more than one, in particular I am referring to one on the LG supe team? Is it going offshore soon? Wondering why I was moved. Not alot to do. Very curious.

I am on that I believe - newbutold

I have a different TL but I am on a large one in CT also and have been for about 2 years or so. Very rarely run out of work though unless around holidays and OT on occasion. Very good account, Both straight and VR available and for the most part the physicians are good. No mention of it going offshore. I work day shift

Ha, I just lost an entire block of reports to do that was my regular - morning work account.

...I guess since I earned a line rate bonus last week, they "freed them up" for this OP or the off-shoring of it has started. I was told to work this really crappy account every day instead, one I have never worked, did, like 5 sample reports back in January. Right before bonus time too--here, do this new account so we can post audit you on these lines as well! Should have seen it coming, I guess. They soooo want me to quit. Voc Rehab just does not work very quickly, especially for someone whose entire waking life is eaten up just trying to get 8 hours in, I mean, when exactly am I suppose to train for something else? Can't believe they just willy nilly take food out of people's mouths like this, anybody's but especially a person who can't just "get a different jobs." Brick and mortar jobs are just not possible for me! I have positively dreaded waking up this whole past week.

Sure don't mean to scare you, but I refer to LG as "the slasher" - in coversations about her with my family.

I have felt like her sole purpose at Nuance has been to downsize, slash, burn us all into quitting or firing as many as possible. I watch the number of people on her team grow, grow, grow, then disappear again.

My assessment of her brittle nature is that she would very likely take pride in being called "the slasher."

Again, I sure don't mean to scare you, but if you were just recently moved to her "team" unexpectedly, it could be so that night shift would run you off.

We had someone like that at an inhouse job I - used to have. They called her - sm

an 'assistant supervisor' (pffft!), but her sole purpose was to 'cull the herd', so to speak. She harassed the more senior workers there daily. Entrapped them with made-up 'errors' and 'non-compliance' BS. Started doing our reviews and those of us with once excellent reviews were getting low marks and countless written warnings under this hatchet-woman. I eventually got fed up and quit, as did quite a few others. Those that were left rode it out to the end, but in the end they all ended up getting fired, and the department closed permanently. I still bristle when I hear this woman's name. She was obviously hired from somewhere in the bowels of H*ll.

Sounds like a sociopath. - Val

What was the point of her harassment? Ego boost? Or to give an excuse to send the transcription outside?
She was DEFINITELY a sociopath. That's - why they hired her. - SM

The hospital had known for a long time they were going to do away with Transcription in order to "cut costs". At first they just let time take its course, and as people left or retired, they didn't replace them. But many of the over-65 MTs needed to continue working, so they did.

Eventually, as the Big Day drew closer, they needed to start "encouraging" MTs to leave, so they wouldn't be stuck paying unemployment. The main supervisor had her eye on advancement to upper management, and hired the Hatchet Woman to do her dirty work for her. Hatchet Woman came with a rather sordid history of being hired for the same purpose by other hospitals. She was also dishonest and unscrupulous. She even did a lot of things, while on the clock, that were against hospital policy, but she always managed to stay employed. She didn't mind that we all detested her - even seemed to enjoy it.

I was already gone by the time she left, so don't know the circumstances surrounding her leaving, but most likely it was because her assignment was complete: She had whittled a once large and well-oiled Transcription Department machine down to a handful of MTs - a skeleton crew that, when finally laid off, didn't impact the hospital's oh-so-sacred Bottom Line too much by going on unemployment. Most likely she got a huge bonus when she left, too. Karma has a way of biting back, and I will always wish her nothing but the worst possible karma for the rest of her life.

Large Hospital Accouts?? Can You Make $$
Feb 16, 2012

I just found out I am being placed on an acute care account for a hospital that has over 500 physicians! Is there really a way to make a decent income from on an account that large? It doesn't seem to me that I would get the same physicians very often, making it much more difficult to get used to their speech patterns, normals, etc. I believe this account will also be partly VR editing. Will that be any easier with that many physicians?? ...

Anyone On The Large Hospital Group In Central Va That Start With
Jul 05, 2013

Hi, I was on this account working directly for the hospital when we ended up outsourced, first to Transcend and then with Nuance when they took over. Back in the day, we got a TON of compliments for our work. However, at this time, I do not know a single person who used to work for them that is still there.  I ran into a friend who still works in house in med records the other day, and she said the quality on the work has been ghastly! I am not trying to say any of you guys are responsible ...

Can I Take A Poll? If You Work For A Semi-large To Large Co. SM
Sep 06, 2014

Here in the US, what are you making (without naming names) per line for straight typing and for VR?I see, below, about OTI lowering to 6.5 CPL straight type and I was just recently offered a job at 7 CPL straight type (as an IC).  I thought that was the going rate nowadays for company work.  Am I wrong?  Are there still some out there that pay a decent wage? ...

Does Anyone Agree With This?

This is a long sentence, but I think the punctuation looks right?? Maybe a comma after "tenderness" ? Seems like a lot of nonessential phrases....     ...

Can We Agree
Apr 25, 2012

I love MT when I am paid well.  When I am offered poverty wages, I don't like that. Can we agree to stop accepting these low wages for editing and transcribing?  Being offered 4 cpl for editing and 6 cpl for transcribing is ridiculous.  If you are offered a job, counter with a higher cpl.  If you are employed, demand a raise.  If you are an IC, tell them your rates have increased. I am not going to attempt to counter all the arguments that people are going to prof ...

...complaining on how bad being an MT is. I noticed most of thOSS saying that have been doing this for 20-30 years. The MT field is not dying it is changing and people don't want to adapt. They refuse to do VR because it pays less but if you learn the short cuts & stop using the mouse you can make good money. I've been doing both straight transcription & voice recognition. My point being there will always be a need for editors!!!  I too hate the work going over seas & ...

technology poor sound quality of dictation should be a thing of the past; however, that is now my #1 problem.  I have put a notation in the QA notes several times lately of the poor audio quality.  I think dictating on a speaker phone or cell phone (I don't care where --- office, home, bathroom, ballgames, convertibles, motorcycles, airplanes, or outer space) should be MT-outlawed and if a dictator does it, the report should be trashed and he should have to dictate it over (y ...

Agree In Spirit
Apr 23, 2012

I agree in spirit with the May 1st protest, but realistically I cannot spare the day off unpaid.  Also, I work for the Wal-Mart of transcription otherwise known as Nuance.  Resistance is futile.  I honestly believe 80% of all US transcription is going to end up going through Nuance.  They should just let the government take them over....then we could all get a big pay raise when we become government employees.  LOL The reason I agree with the protest is this: 180 LPH ...

Getting My Own Work In Large Metro
Jan 07, 2013

I live in a large metro area with many physician offices and lawyer offices.  I am a great transcriptionist and am currently doing just a couple of files a month (I know it's so little).  I need more work and am going to try getting my own.  Can I just drop off a letter to the offices?  I am thinking about doing $1.25 per audio minute or 10 or 12 cents per 65-character line.  Any advice on this method or the rates?  Thanks.  ...

Large Company Sending Your Equipment Next Day
Nov 23, 2010

Does anyone know of a legal recourse for work injuries caused by company equipment?  A market leader, at-the-time generous transcription company sent me an old fashioned monitor, which after years of looking at it caused ocular saccades (lateral jitter of eyes).  Also, they downgraded to cheap earphones with a solenoid in them that thumped, decreasing hearing permanently, evidently, in the solenoid fitted side of the headset. I think the saccades are diminished to absent now ...

Small Versus Large Company?
