I just got an e-mail that there is a large backlog. - mom2huskies

I will work my 40 but I am not going to do OT. I wish Mmodal would get a clue and start paying living wages.

living wage - mmodal slave

[ In Reply To ..]
Good luck with that. I just asked for a raise. Been here since 1993. Took them a week to say let them look at my line counts, schedule compliance, all that. Apparently that all means nothing because they just told me SORRY! Interesting considering I just got my lovely $13 discover card from them for my perfect audit score. Wow . . .where should I spend it all??? The possibilities are ENDLESS!!!

Raises - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Amazing they think a raise should just be based on those things. How about raises just to keep up with inflation/costs of living, especially since we all have taken salary decreases with the wonderful ASR that we were supposed to be able to do twice as fast. How about a "thanks for being a loyal employee and sticking it out with us" raise. The bigwigs get them yearly and don't need them, meanwhile MTs who keep the business going are struggling to get by.

those bigwigs also have degrees and more responsibility - than we do

[ In Reply To ..]
go ahead bring on the dislikes but it is true.
bigwigs - vamt
[ In Reply To ..]
and they would be WHERE without us? Love when management comes on here and responds.
Just sorry that I can only - dislike once
[ In Reply To ..]
They may have degrees and responsibility, but they also have obscenely bloated salaries and top-heavy management positions. Tools.
Want to see how well the bigwigs do - without us?
[ In Reply To ..]
Just get your fantastic ASR reports they tell the clients about, don't fix them, just send them through..I showed a friend who transcribes in-house for a hospital, our before and after ASR reports (minus the identifying information of course), she about had a heart attack..
You have just violated HIPAA regulations - hope you arent found out
[ In Reply To ..]
wow.
Woo freaking hoo... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
There is no way to ID the patient, there is no violation..Besides, FIRE ME, please!!! I don't care. They, send similar reports via email, they have similar reports in that repository, which are all violations as well when you get right down to it.

And take my birthday when you fire me also - NM

take your birthday? what does that mean - confused
[ In Reply To ..]

It means, you got everything else, may as well - have that too.. ;-)
[ In Reply To ..]
just an expression I grew up with
Careful up on that high horse, honey. I bet you violated - HIPAA at some point in your lifetime SM
[ In Reply To ..]
without even meaning to. Gotta love those HIPAA cheerleaders, so high up there they cant see the rest of us down here.
It is impossible to violate a person's privacy - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
If the patient's name or other identifying markers are not used. They can say what they want, its not a HIPAA violation. May be a company violation and grounds for firing completely different animal. 5 months and I can retire; my goal, 5 months and be fired would love to collect U/E for a while.
Violation of privacy - Careful there
[ In Reply To ..]
Regardless of whether someone's name is on the document, you are violating their privacy by showing their records to a stranger, and should not have been done unless you were authorized by the patient to share. Violation of company policy, definitely. HIPAA violation, possibly; that would be like someone taking a person's paper chart outside the facility, blocking out the name and sharing it with their friends. Everything else aside, ask yourself how you would like it if someone did that with your chart. I'd sue you and your employer if I knew someone was sharing my chart notes with strangers without my permission.
You are absolutely correct. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
They go over exactly what you said every year when we have to take our HIPAA retraining.
yea - i used to
[ In Reply To ..]
think that sharing info, telling some of the 'stories', without mentioning names or any identifying information, was ok, but the more i've learned and worked and done the hippa thing, the more i realize that it just isn't smart or a good or decent thing to do. chances are small that someone would figure who the person is that is being talked about, but there is always that small chance. just like docs talking in the elevator about someone. i could be telling someone about a person who got their foot bitten off by an alligator and they just might know a person who had that happen. i don't share or talk about any of this stuff with anyone anymore.
Seriously it was a basic HPI of a report - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You would think I gave away Israel's nuclear plans...Give it a REST, no one can possibly get hurt by a paragraph, being read by another medical transcriptionist that took the same HIPAA tests I took. On your assessment of HIPAA violation, then every report in the repository is in violation and every old report in docqumanage is in violation. HIPPA does not rise to the level of a security clearance for God's sake..Give it a rest. No humans were hurt in this experiment, I promise..
Let your conscience be your guide - Good thing UR retiring
[ In Reply To ..]
I wouldn't do it. MT or not, you and your friend do not share the same employer and those reports should not leave your system without written authorization. I work in QA on site and know exactly what you are talking about, but I would never print those reports and take them home to share. Your friend is an MT, you could have discussed your situation without showing documentation and yes, it's a security breach whether you think it is or not. Unfortunately (or fortunately in this case) you do not make the rules.
But its ok to share those reports in India? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
your logic is flawed..big time.
and if they were truly HIPPA complient - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
There would be NO at home workers because here is NO way to monitor them. Which is exactly why my friend is an in-house transcriptionist her doctors actually believe in patient privacy..All about the money and threats yet again..Get a grip like someone said before high horse...
Actually - Some employers care
[ In Reply To ..]
When I worked at home for a clinic my manager used to make home visits when we had our annual reviews. We were not permitted to work at home unless we had dedicated work space. Our computers were used for work only. We signed confidentiality pledges. The Indian transcription vendors follow the same rules as the domestic vendors or they would never get the contract, and the facilities choose how much or how little information to send them. Stop blaming India for everything when you are sharing patient reports with your friends and don't know what constitutes a confidentiality breach. Just because someone else does it that does not mean its okay.
You are clueless aren't you? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You CANNOT violate a person's privacy by discussing a generic HPI with NO identifying information in it. It is IMPOSSIBLE. And they don't have dedicated computers here, because I have asked for one, their program takes space on my personal computer and I have a HUGE problem allowing Habib in India accessing it to fix company problems. Glad it doesnt bother you one bit, it bothers the crap out of me. I have a dedicated office, BTW, bet the majority of us don't though. If you go on your premise of violation, then they could not put reports in the repository, they could not allow us access to docqumanage, because it should be on a need to know basis and a dictator rambling through a report doesn't rise to need to know. Speaking of which, dictators that dictate at home, dictators that dictate in a crowded office are ALL in violation of HIPAA..which means basically it is a big fat crock..
Yes I am clueless - Whatever
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm ignorant and stupid as well.
Employer can put all the rules in place they like but - cannot stop an employee SM
[ In Reply To ..]
from doing anything, whether inside the facility or out. Of course they can fire the person, but that threat still doesnt stop someone from doing what they want.

How can you sue the employer for what someone chooses to do outside of the workplace? Huff and puff and blow another house down.
The employer is liable - Huff and puff
[ In Reply To ..]
The employer is responsible for what the employees do and for not having the proper safeguards in place. Because an employee is home based, it does not give them the right to do what they want. You are supposed to be treating that job as if you were at a brick and mortar facility.
Hypothetically speaking - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Say my neighbor's child is sick. And she knows I type medical reports for the local hospital. I say, wow I typed a report yesterday this lady had the exact same thing, this is how doc said to proceed forward. Is that a HIPAA violation?
MTs should not be giving medical advice - What do you think?
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know about HIPAA but that is bad on so many levels. I've worked on site at several facilities and we signed confidentiality pledges and had it drilled into us not to discuss what we transcribed, ever regardless of whether we reveal patient names. A coworker was terminated because one of the facility administrators overheard her talking about a case she transcribed at a public gathering. The best advice is to leave work at work and you won't have to worry about HIPAA violations.
Just curious as to the HIPAA - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Because 99% of us have dealt with that scenerio, especially, those of us that do ER reports. Its not so much giving medical advice as saying..Typed a report with those same symptoms, doc said this, keep an eye out..only more specific..I do know, a person that will access medical records of people from her house computer (she works on site) and talk about it at length, she has some kind of fake password? Part of me wants to report her because that is blatantly WRONG, but she has kids and they need food..
Don't do it - What do you think?
[ In Reply To ..]
What you are describing is definitely a HIPAA violation. If the person you know ever gets caught or someone reports it, there are huge fines, in addition to having a fake password is hacking. I've been an MT for 40 years and have never told anyone what a doctor said in a report, even if they asked me. In regard to your neighbor, she can request copies of her child's medical records by filling out an authorization, it is not for you to say what the doctor would do and the reasons should be obvious.
That's why our company is doing so well - MT

All past and present bigwigs - bunch of failures
[ In Reply To ..]
Look at the way these bigwigs you talk about (all past and present upper management and CEOs) with degrees and more responsibility have conducted Mmodal(Medquist) business. Look at all the legal and financial problems they have created within the past 20+ years for this company including getting kicked off the NASDAQ. Look at the way they took 40% of our pay through pay cuts from 2005-2010, and still had to file bankruptcy just a few years ago with $170 million in debt. Where did all that money go? Management wants us to perform above industry standard, but what about them? We (worker bees) do our part to keep this business afloat, and management needs to do their part also. However, greed is their God and it has not only destroyed their character and their souls (as evidenced by the way they treat people), but also everything and everyone they try to manage. So, what did they learn in college?

Those cards are near worthless - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
They really need to find a different provider for those cards. I have to drive an hour just to get to a store that is on their approved list. I've tried to use them online, but it automatically thinks they're debit cards, and I can't change it, and they get declined. If whatever I want to buy is more than $13, I have to do some crazy annoying card juggling just so it doesn't get declined. The last card I got expired before I could use it.

If I'm able to use my cards I usually have a balance - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
left and as long as the balance is over $2 you can give it to charity. I give it to our local food bank. On the papers that come with the card there are a list of places to use the card online and one of them (can't remember the name) is for giving your card or the balance of your card to charity and you get to pick from the listed charities. Do this instead of throwing them out or letting them expire.

Headset With Mic And Large Earpads

Anyone know of a reasonably priced headset with microphone (not wireless) that has the big ear pads that fit over the whole ear not just on the ear.  I'm talking an ear pad about 2-1/2 x 3 inches.  The one I'm using isn't all that tight, it's just that after a whole day one of my ears hurts from even the small amount of pressure.  I need stereo.  Hoping for under $100. ...

Getting My Own Work In Large Metro

Large Company Sending Your Equipment Next Day
Nov 23, 2010

Does anyone know of a legal recourse for work injuries caused by company equipment?  A market leader, at-the-time generous transcription company sent me an old fashioned monitor, which after years of looking at it caused ocular saccades (lateral jitter of eyes).  Also, they downgraded to cheap earphones with a solenoid in them that thumped, decreasing hearing permanently, evidently, in the solenoid fitted side of the headset. I think the saccades are diminished to absent now ...

Small Versus Large Company?

I am wondering what the pros and cons are for working for a smaller company versus a larger one?  I work for a small company and this is the only one I have worked for, but find myself lately wondering if I need to move on as I am afraid that my skills I learned may be deteriorating and there has been such a lack of communication.  I realize that every place is different, but I need some opinions from others that have been in the field longer than myself.  Thanks. ...

Large Hospital Accouts?? Can You Make $$

I just found out I am being placed on an acute care account for a hospital that has over 500 physicians! Is there really a way to make a decent income from on an account that large?
