Company health insurance question for self and spouse - Army72
Posted: Oct 16, 2013
What is the cost per paycheck for company health insurance for self plus spouse? Any feedback on the quality of coverage? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
At the current year's rates you will never be able to - afford. Coverage is minimal at best.

I don't know about the coming year and what will be with all the new insurance changes, but currently it is very expensive and coverage really is more catastrophic than anything with high deductibles.

I was hospitalized 2 years ago for an emergency condition and had Nuance Insurance and still owe the hospital over $6000. Cannot afford to carry insurance now with paying the hospital and worried that this happen again (totally out of my control). What are you supposed to do? Definitely, this insurance is only for a catastrophe!!
Got the insurance booklet today - very disappointing Nuance!

They still have the only (slightly) affordable option premium-wise being the HDHP option, meaning you have to pay the entire deductible before you get squat and the deductible for a family is $7500!!! The premium for this is $360 every two weeks! Thanks to Nuance, I barely make more than that. So I guess even this crappy insurance will be for people who are literally working to get benefits. The employee only premium for this is $46 employee only - deductible $2500 - still basically the disaster insurance plan. The PPO plan is ridiculous, with $550 every two weeks for family premium and they still have high deductibles and OOP costs. Sheesh, Nuance, you are from Massachusetts and should be able to provide better!
The good news is if you live in a state that expanded Medicaid you are eligible to shop on the exchanges if you make as little as we make.
Also, if your state does not expand Medicaid:
"In general, employees who are offered insurance through work are not eligible for subsidized exchange coverage, so long as their insurance meets specified requirements. You would only be eligible for subsidized exchange coverage if your income is between 1 and 4 times the federal poverty level and you would have to pay more than 9.5% of your household income for your own coverage through the insurance offered by your employer." - Kaiser Foundation (nonprofit and nonpartisan)
Hey, Bingo! I could be wrong but I think this means Nuance can take their crappy insurance and stuff it where the sun don't shine because IT COSTS TOO MUCH and DOESN'T PROVIDE ENOUGH COVERAGE and any exchange plan is going to be better and more affordable than that garbage. I'm definitely going to take the time to figure it out when I stop being so tired. From typing all the time and getting nowhere.
Hi,
just found out DSG is now part of m-modal.
I would appreciate knowing how much their employee/spouse health insurance is, and if it is any good or not.
Thanks so much for your time

for a family plan will be in the range of $48K+ to over $50K per year.
The company pays 3/4, something like $36,000+/year, leaving me about $1,000/per month to pay for the cheaper plan, $12k a year, for a policy with $2500 individual deductibles/$5000 per family before it even starts paying, plus copays. I wish I could get the company to pay me that $36K to go in the bank instead.
If my husband had health insurance, I could go employee alone for $100/month (1/10th as much), but he ...
I am wondering if there are any companies left that provide FT employees good health insurance? The kind that does not make you wait months or a year to be covered for preexisting conditions. Thank you in advance for any input on this. ...
Hey folks. Does anyone know of a group health insurance coverage I can get even with preexisting issues? My company doesn't offer it. I've thought of switching companies but all the other ones sound so awful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ...
I am considering becoming self employed (after a fashion) as an IC. I have gone onto www.healthcare.gov and gone through the steps they advise when you want to take out private insurance. Holy cow, the insurance plans offered varied in premium cost from $600 to $4000 per month for a family of 4, but the thing that got me was two items: Maximum out of pocket for individual: 0$. Annual deductible for individual: 0$. Woohoo. This just seems too good to be true.&n ...
Does anyone know if my employer can force me to buy the company-sponsored insurance? I can't afford it any longer, so I want to drop it for the upcoming enrollment. Last year, there was a sheet that stated something like this: Opt out only with proof of coverage elsewhere and attach a copy of insurance card. ...
Could anyone tell me what they paid for health insurance in 2014 through Nuance for you and your spouse and also what you are paying in 2015?
Also, could someone tell me what they paid for the health insurance for 2014 and 2015 for just themselves?
I couldn't afford to take the insurance and I'm trying to figure out if it was more than 8% of my income so I can avoid paying the tax penalty. I don't think it was for just me, but I think with my husband added on it might h ...
I've always had my own health insurance. I didn't want to get stuck with whatever plan my employer happened to offer, and I didn't want to worry about losing my insurance if I changed jobs.
But now the company I'm with is getting out of the insurance business, and I need to find new coverage. The company I work for offers insurance, but like I said above, I don't want their plan. And since they offer it, I'm not eligible for ACA (and I don't ...
Can anybody tell me what kind of health insurance plan Transtech has? Is it HMO, PPO, . . or do they have different plans to choose from? I'm also very interested to know how much it is and how much the deductible would be. I'm 51 years old, so good health benefits is very important to me. Also, I would appreciate any feedback on abt other companies out there with great health insurance. Thank's! ...
With this new healthcare reform, does this mean that outsourcing companies are going to have to provide health insurance to MTs? Even though you may be an independent contractor, you still work for the company. With these oursourcing companies, I sure hope they will be required to offer health insurance, even if they MTs dont or cannot meet the line requirements. This should be a very interesting concept to know about when the healthcare reform is in place! I always thoug ...
I want to take the plunge and try to find a different job but I want to keep my toe in the door here to see if I can find something better. However, I cannot afford to be without insurance. Can you get bennies working 32 hours a week? 24? ...
To those of you who desperately need insurance now, here is a great place to look for temporary insurance. If you eventually find out that COBRA is not going to happen or LM jerks you around so long you miss the deadline, you can still qualify for Uninsurable Risk insurance depending on the State you live in. Some of these plans may even be cheaper than COBRA, which is something you might want to look into.
It is definitely worth your time to check this out instead of just wa ...
This is my first VR job. I cannot make enough lines to qualify for health insurance on it. This is the first time I have ever had this problem. I could easily exceed my line count with a straight typing job. The only way I could meet line count now is if I blaze through the jobs without proofreading and put out bad-quality jobs. I wouldn't even be able to get up to stretch my legs ever. I'd have to cut my lunch down to 30 minutes. And even then I'd be about 1000 to ...
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to DROP the health insurance? I can't make ends meet so I wanted to know if I could drop it and have additional money in my check

I just recently got MQ health insurance. I was wondering how it works since it is just a HSA and not a PPO or HMO. Do I bring my card with me and they swipe it and the payment comes directly from the insurance or do I pay and get a receipt and then have to submit the receipt with paperwork to United Healthcare for reimbursement? I have never used an insurance like this, if you can can it that. Thank you. ...
Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit?? I thought all insurance companies had us pay a copay, not the whole cost of the office visit. What about prescriptions, do we pay the full price for them now too, or is it still about a 15 dollar copay? I am left wondering how they got this kind of insuranc ...
Transtech's ad does not specifically mention health insurance as part of their benefits package, does anyone know if they offer it? Thanks in advance. ...
Holding my breath to see what is going to happen with our insurance next week. Their statement "rates will stay the same for "2014" was made before we got switched to another insurance. Guess I'll get in line behind everybody else in the US who is getting screwed with their health insurance. ...
If Nuance does away with employee health insurance I see no reason to stay. Obamacare sux and I'm trying to avoid it. If the company throws us all to Obamacare exchanges they'll see a huge walk out I'm sure. ...
