I can't qualify for health insurance with a VR job - NeedAdvil

This is my first VR job. I cannot make enough lines to qualify for health insurance on it. This is the first time I have ever had this problem. I could easily exceed my line count with a straight typing job. The only way I could meet line count now is if I blaze through the jobs without proofreading and put out bad-quality jobs. I wouldn't even be able to get up to stretch my legs ever. I'd have to cut my lunch down to 30 minutes. And even then I'd be about 1000 to 1500 lines short.

Anyone else having this problem?

minus the health insurance issue. I'm an IC. I don't qualify for insurance one way or the other. Luckily, I get health care through the VA.

experience newbies will take years to learn, you already have. You just have to develop the extra skills needed to do this work competently. That you are doing so poorly means that you have tremendous room for improvement, some of it very quick. Lower pay for SR can mean income drops somewhat, but not to the point of failing even to qualify for health insurance.

Study what you're doing and compare that with what others are recommending. Maneuvering from correction to correction is a big, big time-eater; everything that can be done to simplify keystrokes and speed that up has to be done. The corrections themselves need to be mechanized to simplify and speed them. You probably need to push yourselves to read faster. Obviously paying attention is critical.

MTs have been editing for several years now and sharing information on what they find works. On the good side, since you work at this 40 hours a week anyway, all that built-in practice will mean really fast, and encouraging, progress once you set yourself to it. Good luck.

for the input. Could you suggest a place to start searching through the archives to find tips?

I have three full pages of VR shortcuts. Some of them don't work. Others, I asked what they meant and got no answer.

For instance, what does NBS stand for? Wig? Suppressed wig? Chunk?

Most of the playing and stopping shortcuts don't like the quick keys they've been assigned and do nothing.

I also have no idea what NBS stands for, presumably - specific to your company? A lot

of people from lots of companies are on the internet and will take the time to explain once you search them out and ask.

Do you have a tech service at your work that can look at the quick key problem for you? That sounds extremely aggravating, but if they don't work you need to get yourself some others. Good news is that people do post them on the web and you can often just copy ones that do work.

As for our archives, any of the threads that start out complaining may hide some very good info. It's definitely worth the dig.

There are the few people out there who claim they do great on VR. They must have super dictators. Most people, don't care how many shortcuts you learn, don't have that situation and do not do well with VR. When you get dictation where you have to correct on every line at least once, add headings or format or whatever, you cannot make any money on it. All VR is is a way to rip off employees even more than they already have. I have been around Speech Recognition for many years and do not see a whole lot of improvement. Software companies just sell this crap to companies making them believe it is great and it is great for them, but not to the people that have to edit the stuff. JMHO!

You cannot make a line count no matter what you do because you have to retype every report from the editor.

The companies who BUY the software have all the data right in front of their faces...they KNOW people are NOT making the line counts that they are supposed to. And guess what - they don't care. Look how little they pay us - and we all keep doing it. I'm keeping track now of my VR - in terms of how much editing there is - you see, then I will have the "data" too - in case I ever want to go to court!

I'm going to be all over them like flies on "you know what" if I ever get a different job lined up. These companies think they're dealing with morons. I've never met them in person, just via email, so they feel like they can screw whomever they want. Can you tell I haven't transitioned well? Had it been gone about differently, I wouldn't be saying this.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit??
