My company sent out health insurance enrollment - information, and premiums next year

for a family plan will be in the range of $48K+ to over $50K per year.

The company pays 3/4, something like $36,000+/year,  leaving me  about $1,000/per month to pay for the cheaper plan, $12k a year, for a policy with $2500 individual deductibles/$5000 per family before it even starts paying, plus copays. I wish I could get the company to pay me that $36K to go in the bank instead.

If my husband had health insurance, I could go employee alone for $100/month (1/10th as much), but he doesn't. This is awful, and we thought last year was bad. And the year before for that. Where does it stop?

I don't know where you live, but some states (California included) have high-risk groups where you can get cheaper insurance. If you/your DH or anyone who is your dependent has an illness falling into that class, you may be able to get into a state-run pool. I hate insurance companies--it they had a gun in their hand you would call it extortion.

The astonishing amount this benefit alone costs my employer to keep me. The less expensive option will cost them over $36,000 in 2012 if I go that way. That is about what I'm making these days, or: each line they pay me for, they pay the same amount to the insurance company.

The second is the tremendous premium increase of family coverage over individual. Somehow I sort of think they want me to go looking elsewhere. Or go without, either one seemingly preferable to continuing employer-provided healthcare coverage as in past decades.

Actually, a third thing that's clear to me is that insurance companies are obsolete for healthcare delivery, and I can't afford to support one any longer. I'm totally with my employer on the need to separate healthcare from employment, but the state cooperatives aren't mandated to form until 2014, so I have to hope we make it through until then without being broken by uncovered medical bills. Then, if a nonprofit option does open up in our state, hope it's well done.

Regarding looking for programs, sorry to say, my state's pretty unreceptive to change. Some assistance is in place for indigent children, but that's about all.

Well - I am finally moving!  Started applying to non-MT jobs this week.    Have known it, have been saying it, but just could not bring myself to do it.  We just did open enrollement for 2014.  I now am paying $430 a month for my spouse and I to get contracted insurance rates - because that (and the wellness benefits) are ALL that it covers (not even pharmacy) until we pay $7500 together, then it covers a WHOPPING 75% till we pay $12,500 for our max out of pocket.& ...

This is my first VR job. I cannot make enough lines to qualify for health insurance on it. This is the first time I have ever had this problem. I could easily exceed my line count with a straight typing job. The only way I could meet line count now is if I blaze through the jobs without proofreading and put out bad-quality jobs. Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit??  I thought all insurance companies had us pay a copay, not the whole cost of the office visit.  What about prescriptions, do we pay the full price for them now too, or is it still about a 15 dollar copay?  I am left wondering how they got this kind of insuranc ...
