HELP! Need health insurance - MTMT

I've always had my own health insurance. I didn't want to get stuck with whatever plan my employer happened to offer, and I didn't want to worry about losing my insurance if I changed jobs.

But now the company I'm with is getting out of the insurance business, and I need to find new coverage. The company I work for offers insurance, but like I said above, I don't want their plan. And since they offer it, I'm not eligible for ACA (and I don't want to go that route anyway).

Does anyone out there know of any independent health insurance companies, preferably that aren't too expensive? I have no idea where to begin.

when I was in your position, not wanting to base my insurance on my employer as I did not feel confident in the MT industry anymore, I began at www dot ehealthinsurance dot com. Not sure if it is still the same, but it offered plans from every company and it was easy to compare. Might give that a shot or something similar. I finally chose in my price range, spoke to an underwriter, and was insured.

I don't see why you wouldn't consider it.
I purposefully work just under the hours necessary to qualify for my company's insurance (because it sucks) so that I can go on the exchange and purchase a policy. For just myself, I pay only about $30/month for an excellent policy at Kaiser, $3 copay for office visit, $5 for specialists, and only $25 copay for ER visit. No deductible. I even think there are ways to get around having to accept your employer's plan. Not sure why you wouldn't consider this.

You can buy a plan on the marketplace; it's just the subsidy you wouldn't be eligible for.

I'm disabled and on Medicare, so was not eligible for Obamacare. However, for anyone else in this situation, you can cancel your Medicare and go with ObamaCare. I did this and have a $400 a month policy for only $91. per month as they subsidize we poor folks. I'm so grateful for the ACA and finally being able to get insurance with pre-existing conditions!

That might be a good idea, as Medicare has been cut to help - pay for ACA. nomsg

With this new healthcare reform, does this mean that outsourcing companies are going to have to provide health insurance to MTs? Even though you may be an independent contractor, you still work for the company. If you eventually find out that COBRA is not going to happen or LM jerks you around so long you miss the deadline, you can still qualify for Uninsurable Risk insurance depending on the State you live in. This is my first VR job. I cannot make enough lines to qualify for health insurance on it. This is the first time I have ever had this problem. I just recently got MQ health insurance. I was wondering how it works since it is just a HSA and not a PPO or HMO. Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit?? I thought all insurance companies had us pay a copay, not the whole cost of the office visit.
