New MT question about Medquist Test - LauraM

Need advice. I am a new MT and I just took the Medquist test and didn't pass. They said they would email me the results. Should I give up? Keep looking? I don't know where to get any additional training, don't want to spend more money on another course. Any suggestions would really help. Feel very discouraged.

First: What kind of schooling did you have.
Second: MQ did you a favor by not hiring you, they suck.
Third: It is an open book test, you can look everything up. Did you fail the transcription part?
Fourth: DO NOT GIVE UP, I would apply everywhere and get good at testing. Look up everything, and on transcription part, if you dont hear something, leave a blank. Dont guess. Also, are you familiar wtih BOS guidelines? You have to follow those for transcribing tests.

Hi! For the typing part, if your bouncing around, call the tech support people at the test place and maybe get your bit number changed. You can also type the dictation part on a Word document and then paste it into the dictation area on the test. That test is a loser. Good luck. A lot of companies use it and are probably losing a lot of good people because of it.

Hey, keep your head high. Trust me. I went through some whirlwinds to be where I am. Each exam I took made me smarter. It helps you know your weakness. You can study more on your own. I read the AHDI book and played as many games as I could find online with terminology. I also kept applying and taking more and more tests. Space things out. Set a goal of how many tests you are willing to take a week. I took 2 to 3 a week. Once in my job, which pays well, I am doing great. Forget the timers while you test too. I swear they are just there to haunt you! Main point, don't give up. Each step helps you get that one job that will be a perfect fit. I have been at a couple of companies, and now at my third. This one is finally paying me what I am worth, and the work is fantastic. It came with some failures. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!

After failing the Medquist test in September 2009, they just e-mailed me today saying Medquist - Eligible to Retest. Just a few hours later, I got another e-mail saying "Employment Update - Medquist. You are eligible to retest." I thought a lot of people are losing their jobs at Medquist. Why the desperate urge to hire, especially people who failed their employment test? ...

I took the Medquist test again today, but I don't expect the perfection they seem to demand. I actually got an RLP (real live person) at Medquist to speak to me about testing 2 weeks ago. She was a little help. She said they have 1,000 take the test monthly so no wonder they are not interested in any particular transcriptionist. I suspect, though, that only 20/1000 pass it. I currently work for a company that pays pretty much the same as Medquist. I hardly have to deal with ESL docs and if I work my butt off I can make some decent money. If I ran MedQuist: Pay Rate: No Tier 1, 2, 3. All MQ MTs would have to be Tier 3 and paid as such. Starting off at 9cpl with cost of living increases.
