Curious which national MTSO has the easiest tests to pass for a newbie or someone coming back to the field after an extended abscence... I've heard MQ is the hardest, andyone have any others they want to mention?

The Transcription Doctors in California - they don't even test. Just send your resume and you're hired.

Be careful not to take any job that will hire you w/o first researching the company. This company is CONSTANTLY hiring.

It seems to me that the goal would be to show the employer what you can do. I see so many messages on here in the past few months talking about how great it is to get hired without being tested. If you have good skills, you will want to be tested. If you don't, you might want to know where you need more work. Either way, testing is not a bad thing. I wouldn't want to work for an employer who would hire me because I say I'm good. Make me prove it!

IMO, the bar is (finally) being raised and frankly, not everyone graduating from an MT school is qualified to be an MT. Remember, the school's goal is to MAKE MONEY. And they achieved that goal.

I think likely 50% or more of graduates from MT programs should not be in the field. (I also think this applies to many MTs still IN the field.)

Testing stinks, but it's part of the application process. If you can't pass a test, get out of the kitchen ;-)

Some schools care a lot more about the success of the graduates than others, but when it all comes down to it, there are people who should not do this kind of work. Unfortunately, some of them have been doing this kind of work for 15-20 years, maybe not even very well, but they found someone who was willing to pay them. Many of those people are finding out now that they can't pass a test if they need to change jobs. They always assumed they were good at their work and some of them really are not. I know that because I have seen it. They won't like hearing it, but it's 100% the truth. Not all MTs who say they are good MTs and have been successful for X number of years even know what an excellent MT is or does. Now some of them are finding out and they really don't like it. They especially don't like it when newer MTs can pass tests and they can't. So they tell us that an experienced MT shouldn't be required to test. Nonsense. If you have good skills, you should be able to demonstrate that you have them. Otherwise you may have let your skills become obsolete or maybe never had them in the first place.

I agree and that applies to other education programs, too. - Many nurses should not be practicing.

I don't understand how a school thinks that a nurse can teach medical transcription, just because she knows a lot of medical terms. There's a lot more to medical transcription than terms and anatomy. They don't understand that because the big money is in nursing courses. Administration has no idea what medical transcription is, so they think anyone who can speak it can teach it. Makes me so angry.

Students considering training need to check the qualifications of the teachers who will be teaching them. If the person talking to you about enrolling doesn't know, won't say, or considers it unimportant, that's a very bad sign. Administration in most cases neither knows nor cares if the teacher they hire to teach you medical transcription has ever done it or how well they have done it.

This is nothing new, but I just heard of still another one that just hires one or more of its new graduates to teach, with no experience. So you have someone who did not find a medical transcription job being considered qualified to teach in a community college. It isn't just community colleges though. I'm sure it probably happens in other poor schools.

Think about it; there are national days for Everything. Does anyone ever get hired from these companies who are continually posting help wanted ads?!?!?
