I tried to post this on the company board but I guess that was the wrong place. So I am sorry for having made that error. I'm new to the forum, so I do apologize for any mistakes I make posting going forward and well in advance of making them. I do hope that I am putting this on the right board; however, if I am not some direction in that regard would be appreciated as well. Where does a post like this belong exactly? I do need some objective help with this or I wouldn't be posting on a forum, so anything anyone could offer is appreciated.
Also, i want to be clear that I understand and can empathize with many of you who are so very unhappy with the way MT has evolved, especially those of you who have lost your livelihood to offshore concerns or VR. I do get it and it's horrific what's been done to what was once such a great field to be in. Often, I wake up and wonder where exactly did it all go so wrong. Where exactly or what exactly was that defining moment and how is it that no one managed to see it coming, but I guess all things change and not always for the better.
With that being said, I am looking to get back into the MT field at a National at the moment due to life changes and the fact I'm just tired of being the head bottle washer and diaper changer 24/7 with no job security to speak of, crazy expensive insurance costs, crazy expensive business taxes, etc., and all the other drama that goes along with having your own business on a full-time basis. I've considered and am preparing to take the CMT and possibly the RMT, and I've been reading through the boards here and on other forums trying to get an idea of what the outlook is at the moment. I guess what I've managed to gather thus far, is that after 24+ years being my own boss I'm going to be considered a newbie going back in, which I guess I'm fine with, but it would be great to hear from any of you who have faced similar hurdles/obstacles when coming back to the field after working on your own accounts/business for so many years and coming back on a 3/4 times basis for benefit purposes. Are there any specific places that would be preferable/more desirable to work at in terms of benefits than others? Any guidance on that front would be greatly appreciated. Also, I guess any thoughts that y'all might have on the CMT and RMT certifications would be greatly appreciated as well.
I've thought long and hard about this and although I will be keeping some of my small accounts, I need the benefits and job security that being an employee provides at the moment, so I really don't have much of choice but to go this route at least for the time being.
I really hope to hear from some of you that have faced similar life change issues that have put you on the same or a similar path to the one that I find myself on. I guess I'm looking for advice on the best way to go about making the transition, how to best traverse the road ahead, how to best organize myself, etc. Please feel free to e-mail me privately and thanks in advance for anyone out there who decides to the time to respond or e-mail. I'm forever grateful and indebted to anyone who comes forward with anything even closely resembling sage advice.
