Starting training new at Medquist any advice. - MT2

Posted: Jan 23, 2012

Very very nervous.  Not sure if I want to do this or not.  Still have my old job which does not pay enough for the bills.  Any advice to get over these nerves. Thanks in advance.

that should tell you something - go with gut

what region are you in?

I am thinking to go with my gut. Every time I don't I am in trouble. But I feel like somehow I am being childish by not following through!

Don't do it!

I am wondering - mt2

[ In Reply To ..]
if I am just seeking validation here of my not wanting to do it. I am a grown person, I feel silly about this. But I really do not want to feel guilty about this decision. However, I do not want to become ill over a job which is bad.
:(

You asked - sm

for advice. Do what you want without guilt. Go for it if you want,it has to be your decision. Don't let yourself become ill over it. It is a bad place to work, but if you feel the need to try it, try it. If you don't like it, quit.

Then you better start praying.

Don't quit your other job sm - mqmt

You will have very uncertain circumstances at MQ. You could have a lot of work and no work. You could get 16 hospitals or just a few, probably the 16.

You will not get to transcribe, only check the ASR reports that are already done by the machine unless they told you it is a straight transcription account. You may have reports that require a little correction and others that require a lot.

After you get going on your own, turn the yellow highlighter off. That slows you down and when you get a report that is really bad and you realize it at the beginning, wipe it out and type it. You will finish it much sooner.

With this job, and your other job, you may make enough to pay the bills. I have a full time job with another company who pays me more than MQ does and I use MQ as a backup because MQ has lost my accounts and I had no job too many times already so this way I am never without a job.

I can do 250 to 300 lines an hour with the voice reports but because of the pay it is still not enough money.

If you don't like it, if you have not quit your other job, you will be okay until you find the right job.

Heres the thing - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
You want more money, but seriously... I have been doing ASR for 6 years, and can do in the 250 mark. If you are new, I doubt you will be able to do that, but even if you do, that is 250 x 0.04 (CPL) and that is $10.00.

Is it worth it?

I agree - MT2

I did not go to the training. I did not want to do it when it came right down to it. I get more per line on ASR on my job now than I would at MQ, though I would get a lot more on straight typing. It would not be worth the stress for me to go through with MQ and do the 2 jobs as I also go to school. Thanks for your help. I do not feel bad about this. I appreciated your feedback, which made me feel as though I were validated in my decision. Sometimes it is difficult to work at home and not be able to bounce things off of other people who would understand. I really very much appreciate all of your help here. I will try other means of making more money, either at my present job or in addition to it somewhere else. Thanks again.
you would never get more straight typing here - just saying
[ In Reply To ..]
That is just the ploy to "hook, line and sinker" you...

Yeah - sm

I have lousy ASR and can manage to get about 220, but type 200, so half the pay instead of double the pay that they promised.

I am currently in the middle of applying for MedQuest. You are all saying bad things about it. I just graduated college with my associates degree in Medical Transcription, so where would be a few good places to apply to, to work from home??
You should ask your question on the "Company" forum ... - anon

But I can tell you, it ain't Medquist. You're not going to find a lot of people to say many nice things about it. All you have to do is take a glance down this page to get an eyeful of all the posts written by Medquist's minions ... I mean, employees.

MQ is not a bad place to work, but pay about minimum wage. It's a great job to supplement another income.
Your best hope - old and burned out

Try to find a hospital that will let you work from home. The MTSOs stink and that definitely includes MQ.

Whatever your old job is paying, it has to be more - than you will make here.

I think we all start out doing medical transcription because we find it interesting and we transcribers are smart and independent. It is also a job you can do at home. However, if you need to find something that pays well this is probably not your best option.

Starting At Medquist

I have a question.  I was hired on at Medquist and was scheduled to start back on August 23.  The radiology account I had been assigned to hadn't gone live yet.  I was then told it would be approximately the second week in September.  Still no word from my supervisor as to a start date for training.  Anyone know of another person on the radiology team I can contact about this.  I have no other names except for my supervisor's name and the name of my recrui ...

Starting Pay At Medquist
Oct 16, 2010

Boy, Medquist is really trying to get my attention! I tested w them prev. but no luck.  Now, I have recd. three voice mails and two emails to get me to retest.  I have a job already for $9.30/hr that I like.  I have read horror stories about Medquist and seasoned employees there having their pay reduced to basically minimal wage. I got taken in by DIT Transcription for 9 weeks, so I am really leery now about being lied to.  What is a good line rate to start out with them if I ...

Help Starting
Mar 05, 2010

Hello, I was interested in becoming a MT because I recently became a mom and would like to work from home. Can anyone tell me the best way to get started? Is there a class/ school you recommend? Or is there a book I can study and take a test to get certified? I am financially strapped so which would be the best for me? I currently work in the medical field in the ER as a Doctors Scribe so I have quite a bit of medical terminology. Thanks for your input!  ...

Nuance is any better than it's getting around here at MM?  I see they want experienced MTs rather than newbies in one of the ads, so that would sound like they'd expect to have to pay better at least.  I used to think this place was better, but not lately.  Does anyone here work for both currently, or even recently? ...

Starting A Business
Jan 29, 2011

Hi. I am new to MT boards here but wondering about how one would start a home business. I have worked for companies as a subcontractor but wish to advertise for myself and get some work from local doctors on my own. I would likely need a mini transcriber if I have to pick up and drop off tapes, but how does one do it over the internet? Would there be a way to get it through email set up of some kind with audio wav files that they could dictate to and I access it from there and just type and emai ...

If you don't like those panels on the side of your text screen showing, you can drag the right and left margins of text screen to widen the text screen.  You can also drag the upper and lower margins.    You can enlarge the size of the font and change the style of the font (which only will change it on your end, not the client's end).  I am not in the program right now, but I think it is under Tools at the top, then click on the tabs to see which one has the font ...

Starting From Scratch

Hello everyone! I finally made the decision to go to school for either MT or coding. Then I found this site. After all the research from other sources and especially comments on this message board, I am steering towards coding. I noticed most going to Coding are coming from Transcription. Do I even have a chance? Also, I've seen ...

Starting Pay Offer?

As an experienced MT, would you take a job that started at 7 cpl? I don't know if this is the norm now, but I have interviewed for 5 jobs this week, none of which have offered more than this. One of the jobs sounded great, but I am terrified to take it because of this 7 cpl offer. She said there was no wiggle room, so I can't ask if they'd consider going up a little. I have 10 years of experience and have been at the same job for 8 years.  Other than considering going off on ...
