I had to listen to the new Split job instructions again because it had been so long since the tutorial and I had forgotten.  I didn't say it was "hard," but it had changed, and I had to refresh.  I don't throw jobs back, so had to go to MQ Central and find the tutorial again and listen about the "import" function and how to do it since you don't highlight and hide the text anymore.  It did take probably 15 minutes to find it and listen through the whole thing because you can't fastforward to the portion of the tutorial you need.  You don't have to be rude. 

Also to the slammer who asked why I kept checking last Christmas Day for jobs, I was scheduled to work my shift.  I don't like this job much right now, but don't have another, so I don't want to get in trouble and certainly don't want to get fired.  If there was work during the day, I would have done it.  I think checking once in the wee hours of the morning and then turning in a "ticket" and saying that there was no work for the rest of the day would have been irresponsible.  I didn't obsess about it -- just every couple of hours would see if there was anything and then sign back out. 

Sometimes the people on this board are so nice and helpful and supportive; however, other times just a bunch of snarks.

I don't know why you were slammed for checking for jobs - that was your choice. Per MQ though, you only have to wait 15 minutes then chose one of THEIR options on what to do for the rest of the day. On Thanksgiving when I am scheduled to work, after 15 min of NJA, I will not be working the rest of the day - will either take PTO or no pay.

First of all... I am NOT a slammer!

My exact post was: "I thought the policy was that if you ran out of work, you turn in a ticket and then wait 15 minutes, check back and if still no work, you are released. Why would you waste 8 hours checking back?"

Why did I post this? Because you said your holiday was messed up by having to keep checking back all day and you were afraid to have people over for fear you would have to go back to work.

I actually was trying to be HELPFUL and SUPPORTIVE by informing you that you did not have to keep checking back and you could have ENJOYED YOUR HOLIDAY by turning in a ticket and electing to take the rest of the day with no pay, relax, invite over your family and friends, and be free from the Q for the afternoon. I was not a SNARK as you put it.

I think you are hypersensitive and I feel very badly for you. This year, plan ahead and work extra the week before x-mas cause you know there is going to be no work, and that way you will not feel guilty taking the rest of day with no pay.

You either take PTO for the rest of the day,

choose to make up the hours at a later date,

or, you are released with no pay.

I have always been told that we are not supposed to keep checking back for work, so I'm not sure why you would do that anyway?

We were only told of this policy within the last 4 months or so. Prior to that we were instructed to check back periodically if there was no work.

Might explain it.

It could be that - the MT decided

to make up hours later. That would mean that he/she would be checking back later for work. There is extra holiday pay on holidays, so choosing that option would mean extra $ for work done that day.

about running out of work and contacting support and getting a self-service ticket, and telling her that I would be checking back in before the end of my shift. No one has ever told me not to do that or that was not allowed, nor have I read anything in their policy that says you are not allowed to check back in before the end of your shift. Maybe she is making up the time later on that same day?
