Relation between offer for Tier III's to advance to MME - avoid being laid off??? - Wiscogirl

Remember the email we got from Corporate waiving the 90-day wait period to apply for advancement of Tier III's to MME and allowing til April 30 to do it?  With all the lay offs going on, anyone think a bigger axe will fall once May 1 rolls around and the Tier III's that did not do this will be let go?  From the way things look with all the lay offs, maybe this is one way to hang onto our jobs.  Thoughts anyone?

I felt that way also. All the work will be shifted, and only - US MMEs will remain

Sorry, but I am not selling my soul to edit for ILPs. They can fire me or lay me off, and I will move on from there. This job does not mean THAT much to me.

I've felt that way since they came up with the MME position. I was an MME and tiered down because the pay wasn't worth the aggravation of the work coming through. I do believe more lay-offs are inevitable.

I have a feeling that's what the "All Hands" meeting - is about.

I think they will complete their layoffs/firing by then, have offered the MME to whomever they're going to offer it to, then hold the All Hands meeting to discuss this new "organization." I'm only a tier 2 so I guess I'm gonna be on "the list."

actively hiring cheap newbies & an MME below got laid off. I think it's just the opposite. Get as many experienced higher paid employees as possible to become MMEs and then completely eliminate that position in one fell swoop. It wouldn't be the first time they've done something similar. JMHO.

Look at it this way. They get *2* sets of ears for the price of one.

You pay the Indian workers to do the initial garbage work for ____ pay ... then you get American MMEs to clean up the whole friggin mess for $0.03 cents a line (YES ... that is what I earn as an MME) so you get a near-complete document by 2 people for the cost that it takes ONE of us to produce right now.

In a way, that's already happening. I'm an MME too and 99% of the work I edit is from the Indian side. The interesting thing about your post, is that by the time it reaches me, it's already been through 3 or 4 "tiers" of their workers. I'm usually the "final stop" for the documents.

The Indians are receiving only a fraction of a cent per line. That way, the dictation can go through many layers of QA before it gets to a US MME and they can still make more money than if they paid an American in the first place. I suspect though, that after a while there will not be enough competent US MMEs to correct all the garbage because younger MMEs will find other occupations. It will be interesting to see what happens to companies like MM and Nuance then. Hope all the hospitals take their work back and MM and Nuance go under.

Anyone who has survived 20-30 years in this business knows, it takes years to get good at MT. It seems they are bringing this company to its knees by ignoring the tried and true experience over all this cheap labor that requires at lot of "cleanup." Why pay 4 people to get one document done when 1 person with the know how could do the job in 1 sweep? Are they not ignoring their loyal, devoted and steadfast MTs who have made this field their livelihood for 30 years? Sadly, this is what is causing the downfall of America.

...would M*Modal do then? When all the U.S. MMEs either throw in the towel or "age out," will the MME work be done by Indian employees? They would need to be VERY well-versed in English, our idioms, American cities and businesses, etc.; and I think any Indian employee who could do a good-enough job at MME work would be following a different career path.

There has to be something behind this selection process. If I were streamlining the company, I would lay off starting with tier I (because tier 2 and tier 3 can also do the work) and then tier 2 (because tier 3 can also do the work).  I think MModal will eventually end up with only tier 3 employees in the US, and they will force them to all become MMEs.  JMHO. Lots of blanks today. Getting reports from an account I hate. Doctors aren't entering ADT information correctly. Doctors aren't caring a bit whether they are hard to understand or hear. Horrible ASR output. And 4 cents a line just isn't worth the extra effort, especially as my count is barely making minimum today because of the reasons above. My patience and tolerance is gone. Avoid Saince.  They are intrusive, constantly calling and they don't pay.  They hijacked my PC for 33-1/2 hours and their paperwork said they pay $10 an hour and then today I was told they only pay a flat rate $100.  HELLO!!
