Rejecting long jobs - Frustrated

Posted: Jun 28, 2011

I know a lot of us are dealing w/ NJA frequently, and I was in that boat yesterday, but today I wanted to poke out eyeballs.  My last job came in w/ half an hour left in my shift, it was 15 minutes from being out of TAT (the TAT on this WT is 2 hrs), and it was just over 50 minutes long.  I stayed on for just over an hour to complete it because I've been told since day 1 that it is Never acceptable to reject a job (I understand when it's a situation where an MT has an emergency, lightning, doc appointment already scheduled, etc.), but I have this situation w/ this particular account frequently.  If we're being monitored, why does this keep happening?  I'm tired of wavering between NJA & getting nothing but "rejected" jobs.  I can see when Dr. Bad's (not a real name, example only, and said auth sucks) jobs are in queues & then mysteriously end up in mine.

i love the long jobs and would gladly stay on an extra hour - kk

to get the lines! I prefer the super long jobs to the 10-liners anyday. AND it sure beats NJA any day of the week!

BUT, (not being a jerk...) I've never ever had a job take me over an hour to complete. What in the world was it? Even the 8 page specialty consultations from hot aired docs don't take me that long and when I did research transcription, never had one either. I'm very curious to know it if was a technical report or a horribly complicated procedure? I'm really curious, so please don't think I'm pickin on ya!

WT was simply D/C summary - Frustrated

Not complicated or technical at all. She just kept getting lost and I had to listen to her breathe, or she'd keep correcting herself and I'd have to go way back to the beginning and correct what she originally said. Sometimes I hate teaching hospitals. :)

Did not take it as pickin' at all.

over an hour on a job, it happens!! - BS dictator

I have only been doing this for 4 years so still consider myself an experienced newbie, but I have had HORRIBLE dictators and have to spend a lot of times trying to match what I am hearing with what I am trying to find in past reports (can't always match them up), or spending time trying to research an acronym only to find out they don't have the right one to begin with. I have had jobs that take this long and am usually just as frustrated as you are... You are not the only one out there. I'm of the opinion that a lot of these doctors/hospitals are compromising patient care because the doctors are just poor communicators and the hospitals and Q don't care. Have had nights that I average 120 lines/hour and nights that I can do 200 lines/hour, solely dependant on ASR/dictators. {{hug}} In the immortal words of Red Green,.. We're all in this together.

50 minutes would take me over an hour unless - there was a lot of dead

finish the job if my schedule allowed it and pay attention to the time of the jobs coming in before you download it. If you don't have time to finish it, just quit a little early and make it up another day. If you go over, just cut your shift a little short the next day.

That is what I do. I'm just tired of being saddled w/ these jobs that have been booted by others (the TAT when it came in screamed that it had been rejected). There is one particular cardiologist who, at the end of his shift, is horrible, and when I start getting that, I'll look to see how many more I have to suffer through. I often find the last few jobs will show that they are w/ an MT & then it ends up in my queue half an hour later. My complaint is just the cherry picking.

How Long Do You Wait For Jobs Before Taking A Break?
Jul 15, 2011

I am on a troublesome account that is fairly new to the company and is a mix of VR and straight transcripiton.  When it first started, there was plenty of work.  All that work has now dried up.  I am lucky if I get a total of 400 lines per day.  Most of my day (approximately 12 hours a day) I sit and keep clicking for the next job to download from EditScript and most of the time anymore nothing comes.  My question for anyone who would care to answer is how long would you ...

Just Another Vent About Jobs, No Jobs, Requirement Of Jobs, Etc.
Aug 18, 2010

It is insulting to all of us with the way that MT pay has gone down the drain, it is frustrating and aggravating to look for a "decent" job these days, trying to work out which companies will treat you fairly, which ones lie about their platforms, work, etc., and not only do these companies not want to pay us what we are worth but now I see that MANY companies are requiring the MT to have or "be willing" to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of equipment.  If an employer can PROMISE IN ...

Where Do I Find The Status Of Jobs And Number Of Jobs?
Nov 26, 2012

I tried entering my ID plus dep on the Fluency for Transcription page and it said my account was inactive.  Okay, so I tried twice with Remedy to get it reactivated.  Both times I got emails telling me it was working.  Tried again and no luck.  Am I on the right page, the one with the hideous orange splash, the same one we use to find our stats?  Any help appreciated, I really don't want to have to call tech support if I don't have to.  Do I even need to d ...

How Long Does It Take.....sm
Mar 26, 2010

Geez!  I was hired by a national last Friday.  It is a full week later, and they haven't even gotten all the paperwork done.  I thought I had completed it all and then they said human resources forgot a few papers.  Well, they have yet to email them to me today.  I thought I would be at least training by now.  It has been a full week.  I mean they still have to install software on my computer, and I still have to train on ES and the account specs.  Ge ...

Why Does It Take So Long?
Mar 08, 2011

Anyone out there notice this?  That it takes twice as long to do an op note anymore in ASR what with all the cutting, pasting, standards, going back to check whether or not to delete headings, blah, blah.  It used to be a cinch to simply bring in one of my standards and make the appropriate changes according to the audio, but now with ASR, it takes twice as long.  I feel like I'm running in place and going nowhere just to make ASR learn something.  It's such a waste ...

How Long Does It Take To Not Be Known As An MT
Jan 24, 2013

I have known where this 'profession' was headed for years; even in the late 1990s I knew. I earned the education that I need with both an associate degree and bachelor's degree (bachelor's degree from Big 10 university) and, still, many people view me as an MT, which we can all agree is not good. I have experience in my new line of work, and I have worked in that field in the past. How long is it really going to take before people do not view me with all the negative stereoty ...

How Long Did It Take You To Get Off Of QA?
Dec 01, 2014

That Took Me Long Enough!
Mar 23, 2015

I quit today. No 2 weeks notice. No anything. "You won't ever be able to work for Nuance again if you do this." That's like saying, "You won't ever be able to hit yourself in the face with a hammer again if you throw it away."  There is NO WAY an MT can survive not knowing what they will make week to week. Who can budget like that? They can stick their "compensation plan" up their yin yang.  I am free!  :)  ...

After Long Deliberation
Feb 16, 2010

After over a year without an MT job I have decided to turn my degree into a Nursing assistant degree. Not to say the MT jobs aren't out there it is just tough for newer MT's to land them with all of the competition. Employers have the right and the demand to be very picky with everyone vying for the position. Good luck to everyone who stays and does well in the MT business but it is time for me to turn my dreams into reality and start making a little green. ...

How Long Does It Take You??....600 Lines...sm
Apr 12, 2010

How long does it take you to type 600 lines?  I am considering taking an at-home position in addition to my in-house transcription position.  The minimum line count for this company is 1800 lines a week and I'd like to not have to work more than three days a week for them, which would be 600 lines per day.  I believe I'd be typing straight into Word, so the only quick-text I'd be using is the Microscoft AutoCorrect.  I would be transcribing clinic notes wi ...

I'm currently working for a small company as an IC.  There are too many typists on this account, so we run out quite a bit.  I'm looking for supplemental work.  I got a position at the local hospital, still waiting on what they are going to offer me (hourly pay).  It's only PRN, so I was planning on doing that - get out of the house some, get back with having some patient contact, and still work at home too.  I have gone back to college to pursue a nu ...
