MQ seems to be in a hiring frenzy for newbies. - I wonder why.

Posted: Mar 11, 2010

There seems to be a lot of newbies coming on here starting with MQ.

I guess out with the old, in with the new.

Good luck to all the newbies.  May the force be with you.  I'll leave the light on for you when I go . . . . . .

newbies - mt

[ In Reply To ..]
probably because they cannot get the old ones to work their schedules, follow guidelines and research their work. Just read the last few days drivel on here and it is obvious.

I dont know about that . . . - dont think so . . .

[ In Reply To ..]
Knowing my work ethic and my work history with MQ for almost 20 years, I am really offended by your banter.

Please do not assume anything. You don't know me.

I AM an old one. I work my schedule. I follow guidelines. I research my work.

And I would bet I could transcribe circles around what you do 100 times over.

In fact, I always was my region's highest producer. Never had anything returned from the clients. Consistently high audits.

But it is also a fact that my salary has been cut in more than half. I get an abundance of NJA screens. Work hangs on my screen and downloads s-l-o-w-l-y. My client is notorius for LOUD static and horrible ESL dictators and plenty of horrible ASR that has to be changed word to word to word.

I call my CCM and beg to be put on ANYTHING just to work. But my emails and my calls are very slowly returned and if by chance I do actually get a call back, I am told that there is no work to give. Then I read on here how some have plentiful work. I even asked to be transferred to one of the regions that has all this "plentiful work" which I am beginning to doubt it exists -- but I am told that cannot be done.

No -- you know what I think? I think there are some of us who are making too much money still and MQ has had to pull the brakes on us. As far as the newbies, I would just LOVE to know the PT to FT ratio, of which no-one is privy to on here. I think they want a lot of PT people, ones who don't need insurance, ones who can flex and change their schedules more with the work load when it is heavy or light. Ones who are coming in with a little higher line rate, but without that added expense of medical insurance. Also, newbies are not grandfathered in to earning more vacation days.

You see -- some of us, when they closed our department, took a paycut with that demotion. BUT we were earning vacations differently than the MTs. Also, we are still getting our medical coverage AND we are still grandfathered into getting that additional vacation time -- we can accumulate more days faster (5 weeks). I don't think MQ likes the added expense that those of us are costing them.

It is all about the bottom line. Period.

I would say, after being with MQ 20 years that they are selectively weeding out those who still are costing them more money.

DRIVEL? I would say the drivel on here is coming from people who don't have a clue of what has been going on at MQ and the intense cost reductions they are doing right now. They have to put a heavy lid on the salaries on this side of the globe.

So -- Excuse me, but I know the quality of the work that I do. I stand behind it. But I cost MQ way too much.

well said! - in the same boat here nm

This is who owns MQ. This is how they treat their other new employees.

Free family med insurance, bonuses, free transportation, free food, gym and - recreational facilities, shift differential,

[ In Reply To ..]
Monthy recognition bonuses, not to mention the constant parties CBay gives the Indians.

We are stupid for putting with what we do.

The AMERICAN employees built up MQ but now we get kicked in the teeth since CBay bought us out.

Must be nice. But what goes around comes around.

Don't forget the free ACCENT TRAINING! - mrs.krabs

[ In Reply To ..]
Disgusting isn't it? Their MT room with all the work stations lined up in rows looks like a modern sweat shop, except they can hop over to the on-site canteen for a bit of chicken curry and gossip with the girls and then finish the long, hard day at the free on-site gym, but then again that could only be for the suits. Well, as long as you continue to work for MQ, you are helping to pay for all that luxury while they are docking your pay for leaving too many blanks. Glad to say, not me!
Don't forget the free transportation to and from the job!! If (sm) - anon

in the drop down for location they had an area for the United States I would apply just for the heck of it, kind of turning the tables a bit. Good grief!!!

This is making me sick to - my stomach

[ In Reply To ..]
How do they offer free medical insurance? Cash bonuses each month? Is it because they pay so cheap? By the way, what do they make per line over there?

Maybe if the offered YOGA training over here, we'd all feel better! HaHa!! - mrs.krabs

[ In Reply To ..]
Did you tour the facilities? In some pics, there are always 2 clocks on the wall. I bet one of them is US time. Corporate office looks totally crappy to me unlike American corporate offices. Hey, they even have a games room! Sorry, I czn't help myself because I literally feel sick to my stomach also. It still looks like a modern-day sweat shop. Rows and rows of computers stations. I bet the gals are shackled to their desks.
By golly, I think I paid for that POS ping-pong table. - mrs.krabs
[ In Reply To ..]
Notice all the security at their corporate office. Could they be just a little bit paranoid? They know they don't treat people fairly. Kumar took a million dollar bonus last year.

I know they are cheap, but after all the perks, just how much cheaper - are they?

[ In Reply To ..]
Like I said I think this is a direct slap in the face of American. I think they spending over there for employees exactly what they would be spending here. Just add it all up. I don't care how cheap they are. Um, I think they are making darn near what we are making now with the pay cuts. And health insurance isn't cheap, even in India, neither is free food, free transporation, exercise facilities, on and on. Think about it. He is making sure the Indian people do well while Americans go to hades.

And I do think there is an age discrimination thing going on here. CBay does not want you past 40 and the more I think about it, the more I think MQ is following their lead, without being so open about it.

I would love to have them turn over the stastistics of the ages of the people they are laying off and firing.

I would betcha that they are all past 40 or darn near 40.
That's the beauty of it. They're wanting more and - sm

more money, to be paid as much as US MTs, but their quality is so much worse and requires many stages of QA, so I think if we sit back, they'll price themselves out of a job eventually. They will NEVER be able to transcribe US reports as well as US MTs when it isn't their first language.

They want virgin MT's who don't know any better about their tactics. - mrs.krabs

tactics only for USA - they take care of their own

[ In Reply To ..]
There were dozens of references to honesty and good treatment on this website. There are no statements like that on Medquist's website.

Sounds more like subserviance to me. - mrs.krabs

[ In Reply To ..]
Oh, and they do DISCRIMINATE trainees based on age. It is only for ages 18-40.
Yep. I would love to know the ages of the people MQ has laid off or fired - recently.
[ In Reply To ..]
CBay is calling the shots whether we like it or not. They will NOT hire anyone past 40. If you look at the pay scales in India it is odd -- the more experience you have, the less money you make.

I wonder if this is not just age discrimination going on here, it seems the long time employees are the ones having the most crap thrown at them.

Makes one wonder.

Remember - we should all be happy we even have jobs. - Yeah right.

[ In Reply To ..]
We are being kicked aside for third world cheap labor.

They get the gravy we get the beans.

Makes me wonder, just how much money they are saving with using cheap labor -- the work still goes through 2 India QA and sometimes American QA, hiring people to cart their ugly rears around from home to work and back, the gas, the vehicle, the free food they get, the exercise facilities, the continued educational training which is free, free medical insurance for them and their families, on and on.

I wonder if it is cheaper to hire their Indian labor, or if it is just an outright slap to America's face.
Sometimes I think America is just doing itself in by allowing free trade, cheap labor, the whole gam - mrs.krabs
[ In Reply To ..]
We have just gotten "too big for our britches."
Indian labor is significantly cheaper than American labor. They own their employees. - mrs.krabs

And the Big O does not appear to be doing anything about it. Just look at the unemployment numbers. They aren't getting any better since he took office. He is as elitist as the rest of Congress. They don't have a clue what it is like down in the trenches. Don't worry though. November is coming and I think there is going to be a big shake-up in Washington.
This has been going on WAYYYY before him. - For decades . . . .
[ In Reply To ..]
I can't stand the entire congress, both republican and democrat. I would love to clear out the entire place. What a bunch of worthless, lazy, self centered bums!

This started long ago when companies we granted the tax breaks for taking their work to other countries.

And we wonder why there is massive unemployment. Why isn't anyone addressing the offshoring/tax break issue?
But sadly he said he was going to do something about offshoring, but - anon

after he got elected he said those were uneducated jobs and he was not going to do anything about it, that we really did not want those jobs that were being offshored. Another lie and broken promise. Our leaders do not care about us. They seem to be in love with India and other countries.
I know, I turned off the internet meeting at that point and called the white house. - I had heard enough, I told them that

I DO have a degree and I DO make GOOD money (I still was at that point) and would he like to explain himself a little further to me.

I call the white house all the time.

I probably have a file 6 inches thick with all my issues in it.

Isn't It Interesting That Newbies Are Getting

us oldies are getting below 98%, in some cases waaayy below, after years or decades of exemplary work, with raises, etc. How much more obvious can it get that they're downsizing the highest paid (and most experienced) MT/ME, to hire the newbies and get the tax breaks. Makes me SICK, so I resigned a couple weeks ago and feel absolutely in shock that I did it, finally, and trust in God for a better job. ...

Investing In Newbies

(Creaky voice) Baaaack when I was starting out... I had neither experience nor education, except my own attempts at self-training by reading "Taber's Medical Encyclopedia," and typing practice from "Norton's Anthology of Poetry." After 3 weeks of mailing resumes to local offices, I had decided to give up on finding an MT job. It looked like no experience, no hire. Then I took part in a transcription "casting call" at a large FP clinic. I tested horribly for speed (12 wpm), got stuck fo ...

For The Newbies Who Come Here And Get Scared
Nov 10, 2010

I want the newbies who come here and read the complaints and get scared about "what have I gotten myself into" to realize that not everyone is unhappy at MedQuist.  Keep in mind that they have literally thousands of employees and only a handful come here to vent their unhappiness (which is fine, I understand, not everyone is going to be in an ideal situation).  I think it very much depends on your circumstances as to how life will be at MQ.  I was a new grad hire and once I ...

2-3 Newbies To Replace 1 Veteran MT
Nov 02, 2010

Just read another interesting article in that it is estimated that it will take 2-3 newbie MTs to replace 1 veteran MT.  Something all these corporate MTSOs better start thinking about.  Once they run all the veteran MTs off, find demand is shifting back to onshore transcription, then what are they going to do.  Even if they pay newbies lets say a mere 6 cpl...that's 18 cpl if it takes 3 to replace 1 veteran, and the veteran makes probably 9 cpl (maybe 10) so it is costing th ...
