MORE SNOW!!! and power outages. What is the policy at MQ on this? - ververyoldMQMT

Posted: Jan 07, 2011

I have been with Q a long time, but have never really been given a straight answer on weather situations knocking off your power (sometimes ultimately leading to the demise of refurbished, after refurbished MQ computers).  Are we penalized for this?

It is your responsibility to make up your hours even if you have a power outage. If you cannot make up your hours they suggest taking a vacation day and if you do not have vacation days left then I guess you are basically screwed.

I was told no downtime pay for a power outage - since I could not prove it.

that was per my nasty CCM though, so may not be true.

If your MQ computer fries due to power outage, - Jaz

then you will be paid while waiting for a replacement. I, however, would not say anything about a power outage causing the problem (they could say it was your fault), I would just say the computer died and I don't know why. I have had my MQ computer die and was paid while waiting for a replacement, which took 2 days.

I have never been paid for a power outage (happened to me twice), have to use PTO, make up time, or take unpaid time. You are not penalized for not working due to power outages or MQ computer not working.

Fried computer - just sayin

If your computer fries because of a power outage or surge it means you are probably not using a surge protector. Not very smart.

FYI, my computers did not die because of - Jaz

power outages, I do use a very good surge protector. One was a fan failure and the other who knows why (both MQ refurbished computers). I was just responding to the OP's question of "what if" and that is why I said if computer dies due to power outage (in case they are not as "smart" as you) not to say it was due to a power outage. Also just sayin

I don't know of any company that pays for a - sm

power outage period. I live in a part of the country that was without power for a week in one instance for an ice storm and the 3 months or so later we were lamblasted again with a wind storm and some places had no power for 2 weeks. I was ready to pack up and go to my mom's - 1-1/2 hours away, when mine luckily came back on after 2 days. I made up my time, but they were not going to pay me because I had no power.

I know no pay for power outage. I just am so worried about my job... - ververyoldMQMT

Gracious, I KNOW they don't pay downtime for the power outages. I just get paranoid, because last year and this year already again, we are being bombarded with high winds knocking power off and on, off and on. And YES, of COURSE I have a power surge protector. They don't always work you know.

internet problems no loss of job - NJA Queen

There was a stretch a few years ago where I swear my internet was crashing every other week- first the router, then the modem (both phone company rentals), then the phone lines themselves due to bad storms, then finally a critter nest in the local internet box that took over a week to diagnose because the internet was sporadic(yes I live in the country). This wasn't just for hours, it was days at a time and yes I had to make it up or take PTO. Oh yeah I think my MQ computer crashed too during this time. It was to the point I was afraid to even email or call my CCM because I just knew that my job was somehow in jeopardy. Seriously, how many times can a person call in with internet problems in a short stretch? I had proof, I had the receipts of the new equipment and documentation to the phone company but I know the paranoia. My CCM was wonderful and I still have my job. MQ knows internet/power problems are part of the game of working at home. Besides, if you are making up the hours or taking PTO then MQ comes out ahead anyway. They can't fire you for circumstances beyond your control like fire, power failure, internet crash or weather.

Power Outages

How do you deal with power outages?  Does anyone utilize a generator with your computer and internet if the power goes out?  What does your company say about power outages?  Thanks, we lose power a lot and I wonder if a computer and my modem will work with a generator as backup.  ...

So How Can Someone Do Their Job When Their Is Power Outages And You Have Lost Your Internet? Sm
Apr 12, 2011

I realize that any job it is necessary for one to be at their "station" when scheduled, but what happens when you have power outages and your internet has been disconnected?  It is hard to make up time also when there is DQS downage.  Crackdown on the weekend turnarounds.  MQ needs to take in consideration the situations that are beyond control and also the CCMs are being held to task over this.  I, for one, am totally respectful and care very much about our CCM.   ...

INDIA'S POWER GRID COLLAPSES - 680 MILLION LOSE POWER
Jul 31, 2012

One of the things I have repeatedly written and warned about when it comes to outsourcing is the uncertain infrastructure that many foreign countries have - and I'm not just talking about their electrical grids. Foreign countries introduce huge elements of uncertainty (read, RISK) when it comes to their physical infrastructure, but also their social, governmental and legal infrastructures.  And when it comes to something as CRITICAL as American healthcare records (which, may I remind ...

Snow?
May 31, 2012

I've never heard of "snow" in an operative report.  He very clearly says snow, but I can't find it to confirm the spelling...Snow, Sno...etc.  Anyone heard of it? No Work Due To Snow!
Jan 13, 2011

We usually have plenty of work, as the company does not over-hire, and we even get OT frequently.  Right now, because of the snow where the accounts are located, there is very low patient load and work is sooooo slow we can't even make the minimum line requirement.  This could go on all winter!!!!!! ...

ETransPlus And Snow Bunny
Sep 08, 2011

Interested to know how eTransPlus is going for Snow Bunny.  She has been on this board for years...if in fact it is the same person.  She was always helping with words and such.  Intrested to see if this is a good or bad company and what she thinks.  It will take time though to see.  Even if good, eventually greed takes over for all these companies. Plus they all seem to have their favorites who cherry pick, so if you come on board, you have to work your way up the cherr ...

I LOVE The Snow Flakes
Dec 06, 2012

I'm tired of reading the negativity about the wonderful snowflakes. Jeepers peepers people.  The snowflakes fall.  They are white, they don't get in the way of reading or writing the messages, they do not cause migraines or seizures or all the other faux complaints people are saying.  They just fall and then that's it.  It's just once a year that we have been looking forward to.  11 months out of the year you get your way and you don't get them, ...

Ok, moving ahead with my plan to up my productivity by doing echo dictation, redictate the reports and up my straight typing speed using voice recognition software. Looking at the new Dragon 11.5 for 145.99 on Amazon.  Want to know if this will do the trick or if must I bite the bullet and get the Dragon Medical (with the 30,000 word medical dictionary) which I am sure is MUCH pricier. Wanna get started on this ASAP, and can have the product from Amazon in a couple of days. Suggest ...

MT Power

We need an MT/ME Bill of Rights.  We should have some input in this company, since without us, it wouldn't exist.  We should: Ding the dingers:  QA/MME should be dinged for each blank They leave, each incorrect correction, and each inconsistent ding for "personal preference" corrections and punctuation. Power Outage

Apparently somebody just had a "power outage."  Was a letter with the doctor dictating 90 miles an hour the name of who the letter was supposed to go to and the carbon copies.  I would like to have thrown it back also, but after a lot of tediousness, I did complete it WITH NO BLANKS.  I might not have known, but they had put something at the top of the report that was still there.  ...

Power Outage Out West - No Pay For Down Time !
