M*Modal folks: do you really have to log out just to take a bathroom break or stretch your legs? Is - anon

Posted: Sep 03, 2012

That is utterly horrible.  I had been thinking of applying for part-time to supplement my full-time job, but this is too much.  I used to work for Transcriptions Ltd way back before MQ got involved.

I work for Nuance now (came from a great company they bought out...grrr).

No, just if you want to - I have never been told this

[ In Reply To ..]
by any CCM. I know some people do so they can keep their PTO rate up (by only being timed in when they are working), but I haven't ever been told this.

I log out of MT program if I am going to be - longer than 10 or 15 minutes,

[ In Reply To ..]
but don't clock off and on. That is ridiculous.

I dont, but I dont care what they think of my - production

[ In Reply To ..]
all depends on what you want..seems like a total waste of my time to log out just to walk to the bathroom, or even through something in the microwave and eat it..8 hours a day is more then enough for me

No - nm

No, I never have. - nm

Logging out. - mj

[ In Reply To ..]
Get your hands slapped by production if you don't. I personally think we should be given at least 10 minutes for every 3 hours or so for a break. I believe our quality would improve.

If you dont, it will negatively affect your PTO. Clocked in but - not working, lowers you LPH SM

[ In Reply To ..]
The lower your LPH, the lower your PTO. The difference of whether you make, say $7 per hour PTO or $10 per hour PTO. So many thing it ridiculous, but anything that affects my money is as serious as a heart attach.

Oops, I seem to be having a problem with my *K*. - lol nm

[ In Reply To ..]
x

I agree with you!! - cece

[ In Reply To ..]
The MT that I have followed for years logs out if she goes to the bathroom, takes a walk, makes coffee, feeds her pet. You name it, she logs out. It's absolutely ridiculous!

Remember the emails we got about our PTO rate? Many said theirs - decreased, some said theirs SM

[ In Reply To ..]
increased. The ones that increased are the ones that log out. The ones that decreased are the ones that let the clock run straight thru the whole shift, whether they were actually working or not. This is the inactive time they talk about on the production reports. When your inactive time, goes down, your PTO rate goes up, simple.

And if you want to say that is nuts, I am not going to do that! Well, as my mom says, you are just cutting off your nose to spite your face. Whatever your personal thoughts are about this issue, it has a MAJOR impact on your income. Why would you NOT do whatever you could to increase your bottom line? It is really just a matter of a few clicks to increase your pay and to not do it is crazy. It is like thumbing your nose at MM, saying you will not play their games, when all the while, it is you looking not so smart.

You sound like a CCM - MMO

[ In Reply To ..]
If I were to clock out everytime I get up for a cup of coffee or potty break, I would have to make up that time at the end of my shift. It's just not worth it to me. If it's so important to you, so be it, to do it for a few dollars more, fine. I don't stress out about nonproductive time or a few pennies more per hour of PTO. What's the point, what's that going to add up to? Also the reason I don't work OT, only amounts to a few more dollars in my paycheck, not worth the extra time. I, like so many of you, am plotting my escape from this thankless, soul-sucking profession and look forward to being paid what I am truly worth.

My feelings exactly... - I am not going to add

[ In Reply To ..]
extra time onto my day for a few cents more when I take time off. It's really all I can do to work my "shift" without wanting to take some time to get some fresh air or a quick little stretch break.
I dont make up my clocked out time. I was asked once about it - and I explained I clock out to look SM
[ In Reply To ..]
old jobs or to do longer than a few minute research. I said it was bad enough we dont get paid for those things, but I wasnt gonna let them affect my PTO negatively. Never heard another word.
Forgot to add, when training, the trainer told us to clock out - and she didnt say anything about SM
[ In Reply To ..]
making up the time. IMO, if you are taking so many breaks that it would take too much time to clock out everytime you are not working, you are taking too many breaks. But do however you want, it is your money you are throwing away and I am glad you are doing so well, you can afford to do that.
My time is more valuable to me than a few - measly pennies-nm

It may be that you guys are the ones who are running everybody out of work by not working your straight shift, clocking in and out all day long, so that you work past your actual shift. Give me a break with your OCD...seriously!!

And I am just passing on what my trainer told my group. You are just posting to see your post. Btw, I am off work for now.
Trainer? - Never had a trainer
[ In Reply To ..]
I never had a trainer at this company, just a CCM or supervisor. Anyway, its called working off the clock to be logged into DQS and clocked out of Teamwork. Too much of that and you will be contacted, same as clocking out and continuing to work past the end of your shift. CCM okay with that?
Yes, my bought out company had to go through training - with a trainer even tho we used DQS already. nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
The only training I get - are video tutorials
[ In Reply To ..]
No actual trainers to ask questions of. What kind of training did you get if you already knew DQS?
It was crazy, Such a typical MM thing to do. Train the ones that have - used DQS. Dont train the ones that havent.nm
[ In Reply To ..]

Keep doing it & let them fire you. Fine with me, LOL. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
Like they would fire me without first telling me to stop. Dont - think so. Again, a good MT, SM
[ In Reply To ..]
reliable, good producer, easy to work with they will not just fire. They would tell me to stop first and if I continued to do it, then I would expect to get fired. But if they told me to stop, I would just do autoplay of the file while I did whatever. Same result. But really, do you thing MM would fire me over this one issue, without a warning, and then have to pay me unemployment? I think not.
So again everybody else's rules don't apply to you? I thought I knew who this was. - I was right. NM
[ In Reply To ..]

So funny. Thread before you were mad because I wanted - to follow the rules. Now you SM
[ In Reply To ..]

Oh, not who I thought. This is the one below who gripes & complains to her supers constantly. - And bend timeclock rules. Bet they love you, LOL.
[ In Reply To ..]
x
Yes, I do. If I am up to my elbows trying to verify that instrument - or med, I log out. And I have told my SM
[ In Reply To ..]
ccm that is what I do for the reason I listed above, when she asked.

Ya know, if you are a good producer, not a diva/drama queen and produce professional documents, you are an asset to MM and I doubt they would fire you over this. If you are one of those that never show up on time, have many excuses why you cant work, produce less than stellar reports, this could be just the excuse they are looking for to get rid of you. But MM doesnt want to fire a good MT.
I've never seen this topic discussed here - before. I do try to
[ In Reply To ..]
produce a professional document but fall short sometimes on line count. It never occurred to me to clock out while I'm researching.
This is what my trainer said. She also said you have to increase - your production to make up Sm
[ In Reply To ..]
for the loss in what VR pays, thereby acknowledging what we already knew. It is a lie that the majority can make more money with VR.
Wait wait..log out of time is fine thought we were - talking about DQS program
[ In Reply To ..]
oh yea log out of the timesheet all you want, thats a personal preference..I thought you guys were talking about logging off of Docqscribe kind of to stuff someone else with crappy jobs..

Since too much trouble to clock out, surely you are not one who - comes here to whine about low pay. Sm

If you are doing so good that you dont need to count the nickels and dimes, then good for you. Just dont come here whining how you cant make money here. Of course you cant if you are throwing it away.

Logging out - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Thanks for your post. I do log out when I'm not working. I don't have any desire to thumb my nose at MModal. I know there are many negative posts here but I am very grateful to have had this job for many years. I am trying to hang on and will do whatever little thing I can to improve my line count, and that includes logging out when I'm not working.

How often do you use PTO???? - Ninner

[ In Reply To ..]
Am I the only person who tries to NOT use my PTO unless I really have to or want to?! So WHO CARES what my rate is for PTO? I would MUCH rather have a lower PTO rate and a HIGHER line count rate! I want to make more money when I'm actually working, how hard is this to understand?! Personally, though I found certain aspects of the mentoring program helpful/useful, it was simply a way for this company to get more work out of us for the same low wage! If I got my PTO rate up to $15 an hour that would be awesome...if I actually used it for 40 hours a week! Hey MModal...increase my cpl back up to where it was when I started, and you can pay me minimum wage for my PTO until the cows come home! Oh, and maybe a small raise once in awhile, as well as NOT cutting the pay almost in HALF because of SR! I think I deserve that much.

A higher line rate doesnt means your PTO is lower. - The opposite. Your PTO is tied to SM

[ In Reply To ..]
the lines you make during an hour. It has nothing to do with what you make per line. It has nothing to do with 4 cpl or 3 cpl. It is what you make in an hour. And it seems to me if you are making a high line count (not rate) that implies you have little inactive time, thus increasing your lph, lines per hour, thus increasing your PTO.

Well, I - enjoyed

[ In Reply To ..]
my vacation at 14 an hour but I guess that is just me. I clock out when I take more than 5 minutes, even if I am in a job. Never been told not to and really don't care. Maybe you could get your PT rate up to 15 if you clocked out.
Again, sure a higher rate for PTO when - Ninner
[ In Reply To ..]
you take vacation is super, but what about the other 350 days out of the year?! I'd rather get more pay for when I AM working than for when I take PTO.
One does not affect the other!. 2 different issues. CPL - has nothing to do with PTO. nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
cpl and PTO - Ninner
[ In Reply To ..]
Clarification! What I am saying is that the mentoring done was simply a way by MModal to get us to do MORE work without actually increasing our cpl RATE OF PAY when we ARE working. The ONLY think affected by the mentoring program is PTO! The mentoring program was designed to decrease INACTIVE TIME, and by doing so this will increase our rate of pay for PTO! I'm not saying cpl has ANYTHING to do with PTO. What I'm saying is that I don't care what my PTO rate is, I would like to be paid MORE for the work that I'm doing WHILE I'M WORKING.

There is an easy way around all this. Do key combo that plays - the voice file, and slow file down SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Then go do whatever while the voice runs. This also decreases inactive time, which will increase your PTO rate. Or you can do the big can of beans on the foot pedal, whatever. And some say having the voice file on autoplay does not show as active time. But that is not true cause I listen to all my jobs that way. If that didnt show as active time, it would show on my production, which is very healthy, thank you very much.

Now I am sure the same MT will cry how this is just not worth the effort and that is fine. Again, must be nice to be so rich that every penny does not count.

Misunderstood - MMO

[ In Reply To ..]
This is what I do when I get a cup of coffee or take a potty break. I just don't want to clock out for 5 or 10 minutes every hour or so and have to make up the time at the end of my shift. I don't much care about the nonproductive time, but don't want to be on CCM's list of people she monitors for too much inactive time either. Just trying to stay under the radar until I can get out.
Breaks - shadow
[ In Reply To ..]
Aren't there laws about taking breaks? When I worked as an office MT I didn't get penalized for breaks, just had to clock out to go to lunch. I know we're at home, but we aren't at home for our convenience but so they can save millions of dollars in office expense. This whole system just isn't right! I wonder what the Indian MTs have to do if they want a break.

That makes absolutely no sense. While it may - boost your hourly rate for the

[ In Reply To ..]
shortened hours, you're not boosting your pay overall for the hours you are scheduled to work, but rather just causing yourself to work work double the hours. How is that boosting your pay? Come up short in hours and you risk losing your benefits. Where is the sense in that?

Wow, I've read through this thread, - and I just have to say...

[ In Reply To ..]
...that this business has become a total crock. It breaks my heart that MTs have to even THINK about these kinds of things: Trying to boost our PTO rate by keeping our production high; bothering to clock out and in when we need to use the potty; getting paid absolutely zilch for every minute (adding up to hours over time) that we have to read e-mails from the company, research a new term, re-wind and go back to struggle with a difficult dictator, trying to figure out what they're saying; typing repeated e-mails to TRY to get an answer to normal employee questions. And then, on top of all this, having to worry about whether we even HAVE any PTO left because we've had to use up so much of it to cover NJA days.

This is all so wrong. No normal employer in the United States of America would expect to get so much free work out of their employees--and yes, we're giving them free work when we have to do things that are necessary to perform our jobs but don't involve fingers typing (researching, e-mailing, and such). I have never had another job where I wasn't allowed to run to the bathroom, chat for a few minutes with a coworker, stand up from my 8-hour-a-day desk job for a little stretch....ALL NORMAL JOBS allow things like this, PLUS two 15-minute breaks in an 8-hour shift, and all while still on the clock, earning your regular hourly wage.

I'm really not sure how the way MTSOs work is legal in this country. I know--it's piecework, which is viewed differently than hourly work, but there is SOOOO much we have to do that doesn't produce any measurable lines; and even when we DO produce lines, the compensation is totally not commensurate with the amount of effort and knowledge necessary to perform a good job.

Off my soapbox now! :-D

I agree. But until this is fixed, I will maximize all I can. Try to - play their game well and profit as I can. nm
