Just had an idea for an audit! - poorhouse

The auditor should determine what percentage of the dictation the physician got correct and then the MT should have at least 99.6% of that correct. I had a doc today say, "There was no palpation to palpation over the remaining joints." I left it, didn't even blank it, mainly because I could clearly hear it and knew they had mis-spoke but how am I supposed to know if they meant pain or tenderness or what? Most of my audio today was extremely lousy and I had left enough blanks as it was. What's with these people dictating where it sounds as if they have the phone on speaker yet they're in another room down the hall? omg

I know what you mean...It's so exhausting to try and hear harder than what your ears can hear and try to read minds at the same time. I have had more of those kinds of dictated sentences lately and just can't figure them out, so I leave it as is. I just can't be sure what they meant to say and don't want to add anything that wasn't dictated. Also, a blank would be assuming one of those terms was incorrect, but which? Sometimes it's hard to tell. Oh well...

Agree with you trying to figure out what they might be saying. I basically type/edit what they say and let them figure out their "garbage". Yesterday I had a doctor who repeated the labs twice. I just kept both in, who am I to judge what they might be trying to do?

Just an FYI, that in a situation like that, it is the responsibility of the MT to flag it as a discrepancy since the author's intended meaning cannot be discerned.

If this report were to be audited, failure to flag a discrepancy would bring down your accuracy score for that report to below the acceptable level. Leaving a blank will never be counted against you.

It's crazy. Even the *AUDITORS* are filled with inconsistencies. How on earth do they expect US to know what the rules of the game are if THEY don't even know?

No one can tell what another person should be able to hear. I find that some things that are totally inaudible to me are easily audible to someone else and vice versa. If it happens again, I would advise you to contact your TSM.

TSMs don't challenge audits ... QCs do - MME

TSMs oversee work flow and have nothing to do with audits or challenges. QCs oversee work quality, including audits.

My company is in the process of being absorbed by Nuance. We have to test and interview but were told most of us would be hired by them. They said they would try to give us schedules/hours we have now (or would like), but I am wondering if they end up offering us horrible hours (like overnight) and we don't take it, if we would be inelligible for unemployment. Send your resume to every company out there, stating that you are looking for IC work. When you get an interview, demand more pay than the measly 8/4 cpl that they are trying to shove down our throats. I came across this idea when looking for ideas to branch out from doing MT. A local technical school in my area offers a certification degree for a respiratory therapist. In doing some research, this doesn't sound that bad. You basically work with patient's who have trouble breathing, asthma, COPD, etc. Learn how to use all the oxygen breathing equipment and such, learn how to respond to a patient who might be coding and give proper airway support. In any case, I've been ignoring it. You can double check your pay by taking the amount of money in the Current column and dividing that by the number of lines in the Piece Units column. It may be a little bit more if you work nights and get the shift differential as it seems that they add that on. It would be nice if they would show that in a seperate row like they did before Ultipro ...
