Here is an idea that might work to get better pay. - If you are an IC.

Send your resume to every company out there, stating that you are looking for IC work. When you get an interview, demand more pay than the measly 8/4 cpl that they are trying to shove down our throats. Tell them that because you are an IC, you have self employment taxes, health care, etc. that comes out of your own pocket and it would not be worth it to work for what they are offering. Also, they are benefitting greatly by not having to pay WC insurance, health care, etc. Thank them for their time and hang up. If you do get an offer for a generous cpl then take it! What have you got to lose?

Well if you aren't in desperate need of a job, perhaps you could play a little, cpl poker, but I highly doubt that will sway them, because they must get a ton of responses to their ads and IC positions are becoming more demanding than ever with set schedules and minimum line counts and weekend coverage. I have been an IC for 4 years a 8 cpl and have never been offered one penny more, no incentive, no bonus, no nothing. You want more money, work more. Now I could look around and try to make more, but I have the sweetest account ever, no weekends, make my own hours, so I am not about to give that up; also no ESLs and no voice. I have been down the road with the big companies and no thank you. Too many rules, regulations, NJA, etc. So I wish you luck with your plan; who knows you may get lucky!

Yes, it never hurts to ask. I tried other MT positions that did pay more, but the dictation was so bad, I was making less than 8 cpl and VR is a nightmare. I never could get the hang of it, to make anything decent and the programs were horrible, so I guess I just take the attitude and again this is just me, I am happy with what I have as it is a good account and all the other things that go along with it, so yes I am happy with 8 cpl. Actually, I am thinking this will be my last MT job, as nothing decent is out there. They can offer you 10 cpl, but I doubt you would reap the benefits due to the poor dictators, VR and of course, NJA. I have seen MTs brag about 10 cpl with M*Modal, yeah right! When I worked there they offered me a good rate too and I never came close to making it, due to all of the garbage that goes on with that company.

We also have to be prepared to back that up - by walking away from low pay offers.

These ads must get hundreds of resumes and applications. I can't tell you how many I have sent out and don't get a reply. I even send a second time and then get an Email back stating that the position has already been filled. Very depressing.

they should pay a premium for them. Why should someone with 15 years experience in acute care get the same rate of pay as a newbie with doctor office experience? Apply, sell yourselves on them. So many are so happy to just lay down like beaten dogs and accept the scraps. You are worth more. I'm not saying if you need work don't accept something, but while you are working look around and shop them. Sell your experience to them and tell them how you would benefit them. Freshen up interview skills.

You lose your chance at a job with them, now and in the future. Don't think they don't remember.

You also lose your own time. You will waste time applying just to annoy employers. That's kind of dysfunctional.

If you are unhappy in your work, it is understandable. It is unlikely to improve. A better plan would be to spend your time learning something new and developing job skills so that you can find a job in another, more viable field.

They said they would try to give us schedules/hours we have now (or would like), but I am wondering if they end up offering us horrible hours (like overnight) and we don't take it, if we would be inelligible for unemployment. The auditor should determine what percentage of the dictation the physician got correct and then the MT should have at least 99.6% of that correct. I came across this idea when looking for ideas to branch out from doing MT. A local technical school in my area offers a certification degree for a respiratory therapist. In doing some research, this doesn't sound that bad. You basically work with patient's who have trouble breathing, asthma, COPD, etc. Learn how to use all the oxygen breathing equipment and such, learn how to respond to a patient who might be coding and give proper airway support. In any case, I've been ignoring it. You can double check your pay by taking the amount of money in the Current column and dividing that by the number of lines in the Piece Units column. It may be a little bit more if you work nights and get the shift differential as it seems that they add that on. It would be nice if they would show that in a seperate row like they did before Ultipro ...
