Interview with Medquist - Searching

Posted: Jun 08, 2010

Interviewing soon with with Medquist and doing research on the company ... not finding anything positive here.  Is ANY TRANSCRIPTIONIST happy with their position with Medquist??  Are there ANY positive benefits to this company?

paycheck always on time - NE MT

[ In Reply To ..]
That is 1 positive I can tell you. My paycheck is direct deposit and it has always been on time and sometimes even a day early.

A lot of "happiness" depends on what account(s)you get, amount of ASR versus typing, amount of work, who your CCM is and attitude. I happen to have a steady account that rarely runs out of work, a fairly decent schedule and about 50% ASR. I am FT and do carry the insurance benefits for my family which is the main reason I am still here. I would not go to far as to say I am happy, especially with all the changes here recently and with fond memories of how things used to be here, but I am doing my best to be content and roll with all the changes.

A lot of people will tell you to run as fast as you can and given their situation with running out of work and horrible accounts I can certainly see their point. You will just have to make your decision based on personal experience. JMHO. Plus, keep in mind that this board is just a fraction of MQ MTs and every one has a different story.

I agree with your statement. - Tired

Personally, I can say that my pay is also on time and I am not hounded by my supervisor....as a matter of fact, I rarely hear from her at all. I like that, but that's just me.

I happen to run out of work quite often, but I believe that is due to the region I'm in and the number of MTs on my accounts. I have A LOT of different accounts I work on on any given day, so there is a lot of keeping up with the rules for each account for me to do.

I have been with this company for almost a year and was hired as a Tier 3. If I knew when I was hired what was to come, I probably would not have taken the job. I am currently seeking other work (outside the home) and once I find it, I will leave MQ far behind.

But again, this is my experience and not everyone is the same.

carrots versus sticks - planetspinz

[ In Reply To ..]
if you can find a company that encourages quality production with carrots instead of sticks, take the job. But if you want a company where the CEO's have no loyalty to the company or the workers, where every day you will be made to feel like even after 22 years in the business you are being graded and graded badly, and you keep getting pay cuts, then by all means work for medquist - only the Indian employees are not required to have a working knowledge of English

MQ MT - W.Tone

I agree with your post. Have worked for the Q off and on since 1995 and now FT for the last 3 years. I also have a very good account, rarely NJA, and a great supervisor.

I have been an MT for over 30 years. Like you said, I am rolling with the changes but am disheartened by the industry as a whole. There are many, many MTs experiencing very tough times. New MTs are entering a profession that is now just profit oriented. The pride in gone. I think the MT who is considering MQ is rolling the dice. I only wish her the best.

If you're a newbie trying to get your foot in the door, - My 2 cents

[ In Reply To ..]
then you might as well go for it. Otherwise, if you're an experienced MT, you will probably be happier elsewhere.

I'm Happy!!! - radityper

It can get mundane at times, BUT, last year made excellent $$$, have benefits, 401, vacation, do not have to buy "work clothes", spend money on gas, low mileage on my car. Working from home can be isolating but what the heck, no office politics.

Enjoy it while it lasts. - nm

Agree with all but the "excellent $$$" - sick and tired

[ In Reply To ..]
My pay is down a bunch in the last 3-4 years. I find that distressing.

How long have you been with the Q? - Not too long

[ In Reply To ..]
I was happy the first 2 years also, somewhat dissatisfied for another 2 years and quite frankly, miserable these last 2 years.
Same here - 6 years - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
First two I loved it, second two were "OK", and last two have about killed me, my health and my marriage.
almost 10 years- getting worse every year - NE MT
[ In Reply To ..]
I started when we were statuatory employees and it was the best thing when my kids were small, the flexiblity was the main reason I came to work with MQ. Then in 2006 we all became employees which was a real change with PTO and benefits and an actual schedule but we actually got a great incentive and bonus. Ever since July 2007 when they took away the incentive and started ASR paycuts things have gone from bad to worse. Just when I think MQ cannot be any more cheap or sneaky or underhanded (how can you lock MTs out of the system when they are paid on production!!) they come up with some idea that is a new low. I think when this lockdown finally happens I will be giving my notice. Either pay me by the hour a decent wage (above minimum) or pay on production and leave the lockout thing in the drawer of MQ bad ideas.

How in God's name can they be "letting people go" - yet still hiring?

[ In Reply To ..]
I am stumped.

I used to wonder that same thing; however, I have come to realize that.... - Kiki

[ In Reply To ..]
They want to get rid of what they consider the highest paid employees and hire new, inexperienced(read=will work for practically nothing) MTs. They no longer care about quality. All about greed and money.

Interview with MedQuist - Just Me

[ In Reply To ..]
I am a Spheris defector (quit Spheris and hired with MQ just before the change for status reasons, clinic MT at Spheris, but qualified to be Acute, so hired in at MQ at tier 3)...anyway, they began the First Time Right thing right at the time of my hire..I signed the papers then read about it on this board. I about fried, as I am a new acute care MT that graduated 5 years ago as acute care but got stuck in clinic work for all that time, so basically...new, and need to send a lot of my stuff to QA. Well, that's pretty much killer for me. That, I think, is my biggest letdown as well as I can't get on 1st shift, but doesn't appear to be any work on 1st anyway according to the NJA posts I see. The account I'm on has plenty of work for my shift, so no problems there. I just can't make any money here :( Already job hunting again.
Most of these companies who send to India use the - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Indians for what would be our evening and graveyard shifts because it's their daytime, and that frees up our first shift for us to have work. I guess MQ can't even get something that simple right! There's not enough money in this business anymore to make it worth working graveyards - no way. I'm seriously considering just sending out flyers and getting a few of my own little individual doctors' offices again. The greedy corporations are ruining this business.

Thats how they get those cheaper, inexperienced workers - from those MT schools they subsidize.

[ In Reply To ..]
Sort of a "revolving door", if you will.

Medquist - BH

[ In Reply To ..]
One thing I like is you have a difficult dictator, you enter his name on "find job" and you come up with reports he dictated with type of report. This helps me bring up similar reports and see if he said the same things, or maybe I need to get a referring doctor's name for the same patient. There are ways I can check. With my previous MT job, I would have to request a sample. I don't do that here. Time is money, and we are told where to look for missing things, like how to look for the correct patient when not dictated.

As MTs, We Should Actually Interview The Companies!
Mar 03, 2010

If you are an MT with 10 or more years experience (actually a requirement with 1 company), and you are testing and interviewing, consider this.  When you do your research on a company that you are applying with, print all the negative posts such as "horrible platform, hardly ever any work, pay is slow, they offshored my account, VR problems, etc., etc."  If you score perfectly on your test and have good recommendations, land an actual interview, we should address these concer ...

FutureNet Interview
Jun 02, 2010

Hi group!  I have a job interview with Rita at Futurenet tomorrow.  The reason I am looking is I am really tired of constantly running out of work because my company over hired and now we transcriptionists are just out of luck!  I am in my 4th year with my current job and suddenly can barely hit $100 a day.  This is really sad when there is no loyalty to their employees.  Now from what I have been reading Futurenet is the same???  I read from this group how they run ...

Transcribing An Interview
Jul 14, 2010

I am doing some side work transcribing a research interview, and was wondering your opinions.  One of the respondents in the interview panel is ESL.  Her grammar is very often incorrect.  I asked them when I got the project if they wanted the transcription verbatim, and she said "yes, let's leave it true to form."  I had asked because the previous work had a lot of "like" and "you know" in it, and transcribing every utterance was actually really hard.  ...
