Phone Interview - asl
Posted: Nov 01, 2010
I have a phone interview for a transcription job coming up soon. I was just wondering if anyone knows what the interview will consist of and if anyone has any tips.
my advice and experience - former interviewer/interviewee

I used to do some interviewing for a smaller company.
Don't bash anyone, even if they start it - people know people in this business. OTOH, be honest about why you are applying - low work, difficult schedule, laid off, whatever.
Tell them what you like about transcription.
Tell them what you like or have heard in a positive way about their company. Tell them why you will be a good employee for them.
Answer questions but don't ramble. As a balance, however, be friendly and take a little interest in them.
If the interviewer is weird, rude, aloof, cold, whatever other negative there might be - If this is not the person you have to work with every day then try to remember that. I used to call certain HR people dobermans - it's like they try to keep people out! So, with that in mind, if everything else checks out and you really want the job, then just play "the game" with the interviewer knowing you will probably not have to deal with them again.
I guess that's it.
Have your resume right in front of you for easy reference - They always ask about previous jobs

You don't want to be fumbling around or trying to go strictly from memory for things you have studied or previous relevant employment you may have had, so either have your resume pulled up on your computer screen for quick reference or have a hard copy in front of you to refer to. Most of the telephone interviews I've had are a pretty good balance of information sharing, with the recruiter telling me about the company, the accounts, their policies, etc., and going over my resume in more detailed fashion to determine how many years of experience I have in certain fields, which fields are my favorites, which fields I might dislike, etc. I think you'll find the telephone interviews are a pretty pleasant experience once you've gotten this first one over with.
Good luck with your interview and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for the advice - asl

Thank you for the advice about the interview. I will definitely be using it. I just dont want to blow getting this job because it is the first interview that I have had on this grueling job search. Again thank you to those who replied. It is greatly appreciated!
I have not had an interview in probably 17 years and I am freaking out. It is for a Transcription Specialist position, which is basically the customer service person in the transcription department, coordinates workflow, administrative suppor to the manager, and clerical support to the transcription and central scheduling areas.
What kind of questions are asked on phone interveiws? I am assuming the phone interview is to first hear if I have a pleasant phone voice, which I am pretty sure I do ...
Hi,
I have not had a phone interview in six years. I was laid off in September and finally got a response to my resume. Anyway what questions should I make sure I ask. In an email that was sent to me I know the hours, the pay and that it is an IC position. This company found my resume on a board that I posted in 2010. I don't want to name the company yet. I have never heard of them.
Thanks in advance.

about the rate of pay. It is ridiculously low as it is and they said they were implementing higher pay. I have been here 3 months now and no changes. On top of that, they charge us to work for them!! I am going to tell them what I think of this. I have nothing to lose!!! ...
I left MM a few weeks ago and today got a call. They asked lots of questions about how satisfied or unsatisfied I was with MM and I answered them all as honestly as I could. When they asked if I thought any of their practices were illegal or unethical...I told them that hiring people to work for you and then expecting them to use their PTO or go without pay when there was not enough work was extremely unethical. Especially when you have many MTs with NJA daily and others with mandatory OT someti ...
I am thinking about switching my current phone line and going with a bundle deal for our second house. Does Dictaphone C-phone work through a cable phone line? I still have the copper wiring at my primary home because I was afraid to switch it so didn't include the phone service in our cable package there. Thanks!

Anyone know if the C-phone will work with a digital phone line ? (I think it's also called a VOiP line). I'm moving to a new place that has a digital line & don't know if I should have a regular phone line installed instead.
Thanks for any help. ...
Daughter needs a need phone. Don't want to have to buy a data plan. What is NOT a Smart Phone these days, but has a full keyboard for texting? Thanks. ...
I am a newbie and have noticed on some of the job postings that they require you to have a c phone. Can anyone tell me exactly what this is used for and if it is common to have to use one and why it seems most are not company supplied ? ...

I need a new phone to replace the Uniden that I had for just over 2 years (grrrr) before it died. I need a base phone and 3 or 4 handsets. If you have one like this and like it, can you let me know what kind it is? ...
Anyone know how to adjust the backspace control for how much it rewinds after you lift the pedal? Right now, it goes back about a sentence at a time. I'd like to be able to adjust it to go back just a word or two.
On older versions of the phone, there used to be a dial on the bottom of the phone for this, but the one I'm using now doesn't have this feature. ...
Hi everyone.
I need to ask a question, which I realize is dumb but here goes. I see that on the jobs listing part of the site there are a couple of companies who require a C-phone. Can someone tell me what this is ?? At first I thought it meant cell phone but realized that can't be right. Thanks everyone for your patience. I guess it is showing that I am an "old school" transcriptionist and do not know anything about newer technology (if this is new).
Take care all xo ...
Hi,
This is probably a stupid question, but I'm not a technical person so need some advice. I need a landline to hook up a C-phone. I am thinking my house phone is a landline, but hubby says no. We have charter, and the phone line we have goes into a modem which goes into the computer, and he says what is needed is for it to be able to hook into like a wall jack (or some type of something like a box on the wall). He did try to hook it up last night, and the ...
Is there anyone that actually enjoys working for MQ? I lost my job this week and so I am looking for something to start quickly, and so far the only interview I have set up is with MQ. Please give me some hope! ...
I have an interview with MD-IT and wondered about some posts in the archives that are quite recent that stated there has been a lack of work and layoffs with no warning. I am wondering whether I should even bother interviewing. I am looking for a new job because of lack of work, not wanting to walk into another similar situation. Any thoughts? Thanks. ...
I encourage all MQ employees to register with this newspaper (link below)and voice your opinion of MedQuist. It is our chance to be heard and let the public hear the "other side" rather than the "rosy" talk of Mr. Davenport.
