I think we're all going to need PTSD counseling after working for this company - anon

Posted: Mar 08, 2014

It might take years of counseling to undo what this company has done to its employees.

This is like being in a really, really, really bad relationship that you can't really describe to anyone outside of it because it's so nightmarish they would think you were making it all up.

When it's all over and the lights are turned off (and they will be, soon), we'll all have the absolute craziest tales about this company to tell people, because nobody, absolutely nobody else has EVER gone through what we're going through with MModal.  Nobody.

Its frustrating too because I try to explain to my spouse how it is to go to work these days and the stress I'm under and I think he gets it, but really doesn't get it and thinks I'm exaggerating but I do fear every day for my job and do dread opening my email wondering what I may have done wrong, etc. (and yes I'm working on a way out of here)

Definitely have hit burnout here.

And even after they all closed down all the major car companies were still concerned with their employees and their families, providing counseling, putting them in touch with resources for food stamps, etc. The common denominator was that even though they closed down, they let their employees walk out the door with their self-respect intact and they never lost their sense of "humanity".

When I see the cold hearted lack of humanity this company has for its people it literally makes me ill.

You're right when you say people would think we were making it all up ... my friends and family think I'm exaggerating when I tell them about the new quality requirement or the treatment from our TSMs or badgering by the QCs - now this, with the bankruptcy on top of everything? They honestly can't believe it's true. To be honest, I can hardly believe it myself.

In this case truth really is stranger than fiction.

"Bad jobs" are not a part of MY life. I don't know what kind of jobs you've had in your life but if bad jobs are your status quo you may want to consider your choice of companies.

I said it's a part of life, NEVER said - you had to stick with them..sm

I've never been a "company" MT. Whe my hospital outsourced to MModal, I stuck around for about a year until I got blessed with the job I have now.

The hospital I worked for had a lot of drama, even though we all worked remotely, it was always something and there were times when the stress really got to me, but the money was so good
($1300 take home after taxes and insurance), I refused to look elsewhere.

When they outsourced to MModal, I no longer had an excuse to not look for another job since I wasn't making good money anymore.

I left MModal because I needed more money and job security, not because they treated me bad or made my life a nightmare.

Our industry is not unique in the grand scheme in terms of what the recession has done and will continue to do to our livelihoods. Maybe you are too busy in your life to even watch the news or read what is on the internet but poverty abounds in this country. Most people are making half of what they used to make. As MTs we are experiencing it in our industry but the the decline knows no bounds.

I totally agree. There's issues all over the - Country with

The economy and how people's livelihood have been effected. You're right, just watch the news, read the paper. Lots of companies (non-MT) and their employees are feeling the burn.

Also, look at all the people with skills up the wazoo, - but who are over 50, who cant get a job.

As more and more people in the US can't find work, I predict there will be a whole separate "economy" that develops as a result. It will become an underground cash-and-barter economy, and the government, unable to collect income taxes on this economy, having screwed the middle class so badly for so many years, will eventually HAVE to seriously consider taxing their elite - their 1%-ers - if they ever want to have any hope of having the funds to continue to operate the government.

There are already many businesses out there that will give you a much better price if you pay cash than if you charge something, or write a check for it. We all know where that money goes, right? So yes, a second "cash-only" economy could very well exist right alongside our normal, CORRUPT economy, and most likely flourish. It's already working, and I predict it'll grow in the coming years.

recently I tried that tactic, paying cash for large-ticket items and couldn't get a deal. :( MM sucked up my hospital job, so I cashed out my retirement to invest in a new venture. One thing I had to buy was a used vehicle. Told different dealers I was paying cash...still no deal. My new business venture is 180 degrees different than healthcare/MT.

True. Trying to get a new job, ANY job, is often - a joke. You scour the ads for - S/M

things such as office assistant, secretary, receptionist, clerk typist, data entry, office specialist, or any myriad of combinations of formerly closer to entry-level jobs, and just TRY to qualify for any of them! Employers can pick and choose nowadays. That receptionist job comes with so many "requirements", you'd need a 2-4 more years in college just to apply with any hope of getting it. For that "entry-level" receptionist job, they want a B.A. degree in business management, they want you at the very least bilingual, and in many cases TRIlingual. You can't just be "familiar" with all aspects of Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint and Quickbooks, not to mention whatever designer programs they use in THEIR particular office, they want you to be an "Expert" at all those things. And even though their ad says "entry level", they want 3-5 years experience. How is that "entry level"? And then, even if you make those cuts, and land an interview, they want to pay you only $10-12/hour for all those skills.

If it weren't going to affect so many lives in such a tragic way, what happens to this country in the next 10 years would be FUNNY.

I Just Started Working For A Company With VR
Oct 17, 2011

I started working for a company 2 weeks ago and it's about 99% VR, so I just edit all day.  Sometimes I would rather type it because it would be faster than editing. Other times it is faster to just edit it. The problem is, it is going to take at least the length of the recording to get the job done either way, but with VR I'm being paid only 4 cents a line.  It's the same work for less than half the pay I had before with straight typing. I just calculated up what I made ...

Working For This Company Is Demoralizing
Feb 28, 2015

Always on edge wondering what error they're going to ding you for next. Constant reminders of all you're doing wrong, and never getting told what you're doing right. Poverty wages. The only reason I'm working for this company is so I can keep my health insurance. The minute I get a new job, which I search for every day, I'm done here. ...

Started Working For A Company 2 Weeks Ago And
Mar 10, 2011

so, what do you think?  I started working with them 2 weeks ago and at first, you have to pend all your work to QA which I have been doing and I haven't heard anything from anyone.  Every other company I have worked with send you QA feedback so you know if you are on track or not.  I am just worried that this place is shady and when it comes time to get paychecks, I will have a hard time. ...

I Am Literally Going BROKE Working For This Company
Dec 05, 2011

My region has just brought on a few new accounts which would be considered a good thing for most but here is my problem.  I'm an MME so these new accounts are all 100% QA which means I've only made $0.03 cpl for days now.  To make it a thousand times worse, it seems as if every doctor on one of our new accounts has a different set of samples and formatting to follow so when I'm not earning $0.03 cpl QA'ing other people's work I've got at least a dozen samples open ...

Working As An IC...putting Company Names On Applications?
Nov 12, 2012

I am applying to a company that would like me to give names and phone numbers of current and previous employers for verification.  I have really only had one "employer" in the last six years.  All the rest are companies I do IC work for, including the one I am working for now.  Do I put the company names and phone numbers down?  It feels somehow wrong, like I am breaking confidentiality or putting their names and numbers down in some sort of behind-their-back way.  Any t ...
