Do any MQ employees have original documentation - CA-MT

Posted: May 22, 2011

from years ago?  I'm going through all my paperwork to find something that says we were to do a certain lines per hour, and at 98% quality.  If they change the stakes, it isn't our fault that we do not meet their new standards.  I'm thinking in terms of getting fired from a hostile environment and claiming constructive termination.

Give it up, puhleeze! They can change their terms of - employment anytime.

Amazing to me how many of you are going down with the ship!

DELUSIONAL to think you have any recourse! ABSURD to think any company cannot change their terms of employment when they need/want to.

It's not hostile. YOU HAVE NO CASE.

Dang, just save yourself ma'am.

Give up what, my life? - CA-MT

For those of us who have decided to go down with the ship, we're the fighters. We don't give up easily, so no need to get so uppity. Of course they have the right to do anything they want with us, but we have rights, too. Ten years with this company means something to me. It has been a part of my identity, my life, pays my bills. Maybe you can throw all that out the window. I don't expect a gold watch or a pension, but I refuse to be laid off in shame without a fight. I've never been fired in my whole 36 years of employment in any capacity. I've always met the 98% quality bar and if MQ decides to raise that, I simply refuse to take the blame of being inadequate. I've been quite adequate, thank you very much, for the last 10 years, and 13 years before that in 2 other longterm transcription jobs, as well as 10 years before that in the 80s working as a Registered Nurse with lots more professional appreciation than I'm seeing with MQ, or with your response. I AM a professional and insist on being treated as one. No need to respond to my threads with such angst. I asked a simple question.

MQ has been part of my identity too - they dont care though

I used to be so proud. It is very hard to take all of this. There are no other jobs in transcription anymore. I dont want to be terminated, I dont want to be laid off, I just want to work, like I used to. I gave them everything, every holiday, every weekend. I feel like they owe us, who were loyal to them, a little more respect than this.

I dont believe there is anything we can do about them changing the rules. They changed it with ASR and we were all stuck. All we can do is, if our income drops further for the same amount of work, file for partial unemployment before they fire us and we will probably continue to receive it.

Good luck to us all.

CA-MT....I totally agree with YOU...... - Kiki1

I'm assuming you live in CA (as I do)? Well, if you do, not to worry, even if they fire you you can get unemployment in this state. Doesn't even matter if it were your fault (only in the most extreme cases such as stealing from the employer would you not be able to get it.

However, I think you are right in trying to find some documentation that shows what the requirements were in the past, including increasing the quality bar from 98% to 99% along with the pay cuts for any QA over 5%, etc. That is what I am doing. Just in case. I'm with you, fighting for my job. I don't get that other poster at all. I'm not quitting and give MQ the satisfaction of not paying me unemployment.

I wouldn't even have a beef with them if they just went ahead and laid off a bunch of people, happens all the time. If they don't need us they don't HAVE to keep us. But this game playing, just to force us out with their increasingly ridiculous standards and rules, cutting our pay as punishment for reasons beyond our control, that is just downright EVIL...... for lack of a better word at the moment...Karma will definitely get them.

Good luck with your personal attempt to make all things right. - sm

You're not a fighter as you say you are. You are obstinate. You refuse to accept the reality of what is happening. Worse yet, you are failing to protect yourself.

Why not just do what's healthy for yourself?

It's business. You're taking it so personal. If your job is defining who you are, then you have WAY more problems than anyone can help you with!

It's just a job. Get another one.

You suits need another job. OUT of the - transcription field.

You are right on a lot of fronts. People are in denial on what is going on at MQ and other MTSOs with regard to the MT industry. It is not going to get any better, yet people think they can force things to change, will it to happen or something. I just don't understand. People can stick their heads in the sand or they can prepare for not only leaving MQ but leaving the MT industry as a whole and the sooner they face reality the better. That is the only way that their lives are truly going to get better. I lived in denial for a long time (been with MQ almost 10 years) but it is just the way it is and it is trickling down from higher than MTSOs in some cases. It's coming from the corporate/client level as well.

If fighting did any good, wouldn't something good have happened to the MT industry by now? For pete's sake, this has been going on for years, little by little. Why would it change now?

I went and visited the old hospital I used to work at before I was outsourced to MQ and the entire HIM dept is gone, as in does not exist anymore. The corporation (a biggie, starts with an H and ends with an A) went to a shared service and predominantly EMR and laid people off, sent people home to work or...wait for it...outsourced to MQ even more...coding, etc. My former supervisor told me that those employees had been promised that their pay would not differ by X amount from their former pay and that turned out to not be the case (how many of us have had our pay continue to be snatched away). If whole HIM departments are being done away with, corporations are obviously looking at doing things on the cheap, and that means they don't give a hoot about quality and that means MT has no chance of coming back to a respected career field.

Everyone who still thinks they can fight for change, whoever is still in denial, will see it crystal clear one day. ILP, EMR and ASR = the end of MT as we knew it where a person could make a living wage or much better and support a family. Those days are history. The few that still have it good will continue slowly to see ILP, EMR and ASR erode what's left of anything good.

I do not agree, however, with telling someone they have "way more problems, etc." I have compassion for everyone going through this as I went through it, too. I fought it in my head for years, thinking everything would get better, surely someone would see the poor quality, surely someone would bring jobs back from overseas, surely someone would help...NO!!!

I started school last year (not healthcare related) and will be out of here soon. I want everyone to prosper and be in health, and IMO, that means not being an MT anymore.

Actually, your post sounds "hostile & delusional". - Just saying......

I just asked a question. "Do any MQ employees have original documentation?"

I'm not trying to change the world. I'm not even trying to change MQ. What I am doing is trying to protect myself and gather information for the unemployment office to show them how things changed and how I've been able to weather the stricter changes for 10 years. Now that they're requiring 99% quality, I feel the need to be prepared in case I get fired. That's all. I will absolutely NEED unemployment payments for awhile which will give me some income during the time it will take me to get certified for another job. That's all. So, does anyone have a piece of paper, or an old e-mail that informed us of our benefits. That's all. Thank you.

The only thing I have is a booklet when I went full time about 5 years ago, before then I was very limited part time. It outlined the pay scale, but I think that was before less for ASR, but of course they can change anything they want. When the work started slowing down I talked to my CCM and said I gave up a full-time job for this because the money was better and she said "A lot of people did." Boy, was that encouraging. Too bad we couldn's sue for breech of contract, but there is some very fine print, I am sure or maybe invisible print.

THAT'S IT! - CA-MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Would you please post here snippets of what that booklet says about pay scale, percentage of pay for ASR work. It would benefit us all. We could print it out to take to the unemployment office to justify our case. I'm sure we wouldn't win if we were to sue MQ on any account - their lawyers are just too good.

Not necessarily true about the great lawyers. They have lost twice in the recent past since I was an employee (11 years).

OMG How Funny - Read Glassdoor Opinion Of Employees, US Versus Indian Employees!
Aug 05, 2013

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor.  You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars.  Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India.  What a difference.  They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years.  The US transcriptionists are very sad!!  What a difference..... ...

Anybody Know Where Any Documentation Regarding Exactly How The QA
Mar 20, 2010

submission line count is calculated?  Number of characters in the words filled in by QA divided by total pay period line count?  Number of characters in the document submitted?  Knowing MQ, it's probably the latter.  So... if I submit 1 report with a 90 line count doc and 1 word, I'm dinged more than five 10 line count docs with 2 lines (i.e., 130 characters) of blanks in each?  There are doctors with such bad accents+mumbling in my group that they can end up w ...

Documentation Errors
Sep 15, 2010

I work in a surgery center/clinic in medical transcription. I have never worked in the medical field before, so I'm not sure what is acceptable. We get massive amounts of documentation errors from the nurses in the surgery center and in the clinic. Is this usually acceptable?! Is it normal for a transcriptionist to be required to scan over the chart and correct all of their errors or should this be the responsibility of the nursing staff? It's DRIVING me up a wall! I'd say 75 ...

I think any law that forbids offshoring of American medical documentation would have to be very thorough to address a number of potential problems. In keeping with this, I have a list below of some that I've thought might come up under such a law unless they are specifically addressed. These are possible loop holes that could really mess things up. 1.  It would create a sudden demand for many more MTs in this country. Ahima certainly gives it a different spin than MT, and an article at Study.com lists desired or common requirements as associate's or bachelor's degree, with nursing, HIM, or health information technology, and medical coding expertise.  So where does Nuance get off expecting "lowly" MTs to do this stuff, with 100% flawless accuracy, on lowly MT pay having to Google everything?
