Keystrokes... I cannot find original post - Bobbi54

Posted: Oct 12, 2009

I'm sorry, I know that this company was mentioned on this board but I cannot find the original post.

If I remember correctly, this didn't sound like a good company to work for.

Anyone?

Thank you.

They are a great company to work for! MUCH better than others I have tried. - 2Tired2Type

I have been around the block a few times and have found Keystrokes to be the best company, by far, out there right now. They are fair, pay well and on time. They have benefits including PTO. They do not offshore, which is important to me.

Thank you very much for the reply... - Bobbi54

I am expecting a phone call from them tomorrow.

I work for Keystrokes.... - Keystroker

going on 5 years. As with any company, not everyone likes all accounts. KS does use BOS so that there is a "standard" way of grading, as many of the clients require this, and some Meditech accounts are better than others. Maybe you should just give it a try. To each his own :)

p.s. - Bobbi54

[ In Reply To ..]
yes, the fact that they do not offshore was a plus for me also :)

Meditech platform... - Bobbi54

[ In Reply To ..]
To the OP who replied - how do you like the Meditech platform? This is what they told me in their email that I would be using.

Sorry for so many questions!
I don't work for keystrokes - but I have used Meditech
[ In Reply To ..]
It's horrible! It's not MT friendly. Some say they will transcribe in Word and copy and paste, but the Meditech system is so slow when it copies that it takes forever and a day.

Hopefully, you are getting a good rate per line to compensate for the crappy platform.

There are several screens to maneuver through before you even get to the transcription part.

Once you learn the F keys across the top of your keyboard to move around Meditech, you'll do okay, I hope!

I hate to rain on your parade; I really do, but Meditech is not made for the MT, it was made as database for the hospital so that labs, reports, etc. can be easily accessed by hospital staff.

There is also no spell check to speak of especially medical.

Good luck!

The reason you are getting a job on the Meditech platform is because KS cannot keep anyone on the account that uses the Meditech platform!

I have been on the same account with a Meditech platform for 3 years, ever since being hired at KS.

I have only worked for Keystrokes for less than two years. I was a bit skeptical having worked in a hospital setting for most of my career. I have nothing but great things to say about KS. They found a home account for me in no time. They are mostly all personable people. I will tell you that I can have a little bit of an aggressive personality. When something happened and there was no fault on KS part, I pushed and they did push back. If you look for conflict, you will find it. After sitting back and doing a job that was less than desirable, I was promoted to a lead position. I will also tell you that when hired, I was going through a divorce. While KS expects you to do your very best work and be punctual and reliable, they were very understanding of my situation. Talk to them, they are people too.

As far as the QA, as an MT you should WANT to do your best work. I have seen an MT put a report through with a comma where it should have been a period and it totally changed the meaning of the sentence. So, yes a comma does matter.

As far as Meditech, I had to laugh at this because there are so many different Meditech platforms. I have been fortunate to work in three different Meditech platforms one of which was Word based. It just takes some getting used to. Every platform has its quirks.

As far as purchasing your own shorthand, well in all honesty I didn't think it was that bad. I bought a one year license for $30 bucks and it is $100 bucks for a lifetime license. I use it for everything, not just transcription. It isn't something you can give back, so if KS pays for it for you and you up and quit after two weeks, they have lost money.

As far as the equipment. I had some issues with that too. The equipment is expensive but you can look on ebay and get it fairly inexpensive.

No company is perfect. You have to find a good fit for you. If KS isn't it then so be it. They have worked hard to get great insurance in place for their MT's, health, dental, vision, life, and supplemental insurance at a very reasonable cost.

I think that KS is a great company to work for. A company can never make everybody happy. But I think KS does a pretty good job making their employees happy. They are constantly asking for employee opinions and sending out surveys to get information about how employees feel. I know I love it and love being part of their team.
Meditech - me
[ In Reply To ..]
The Meditech platform sucks. It is not MT friendly and I have yet to find anyone who loves it. There are those who have resolved themselves that they have to work on it, but they don't love it. KS told me how productive it was and how all the MTs loved it - BS.

I have been there for 3 years and have never been treated so well in my life.

Yep I agree 101% - Three years at KS and counting

[ In Reply To ..]
I agree. I have been there for 3 years also, and have never been treated better by any company. But of course the MTs with bad QA, the arrogant and the "diva" MTs will not fare well, but that's true with any company.

Keystrokes is not that great to work for. Some people are treated very well and become the favorites of the higher ups, but if anything goes wrong for you there, I feel sorry for you. They do not treat anyone well who doesn't conform to what they want you to be. The MediTech platform is from the dark ages and you can't cut and paste from Word into that platform. Also you will find it very clunky and slow, absolutely impossible to work on. Not all expanders will work on it either. Good luck, you'll need it!

Not familiar with MediTech but did work for - Carolyn

[ In Reply To ..]
Keystrokes. I thought they were terrible. Pay was poor, regardless of your experience or what lousy account or platform they had you on. There is always the exception, but keep your resume up to date and ready to fire off should the need arise. Good luck.

Agree. - Areta

[ In Reply To ..]
Expensive insurance, pay own unlimited long distance, minimal tec support, slow platform--plus on certain accounts forbidden to copy & paste from Word. Pleasant management/office staff but QA and 1 team lead/trainer in particular condescending and haughty. Bad experience.

I also did not like Keystrokes. - The platform is not good ....

[ In Reply To ..]
Especially with C-phone accounts .... told me when hired the account would be a pool .... my first day they assigned me a neurologist and 2 ESL .... I immediately asked them about that and they said All The Other Physicians Were Already Assigned; they did not provide training .... I did not stay.

The positions offered to me were... - Bobbi54

[ In Reply To ..]
All included weekend work (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.) or 3rd shifts. Four positions require C-phone and unlimited long distance, and 2 required a USB foot pedal. I feel like I have paid my dues as far as working weekends throughout the years. They also have not mentioned pay rate or benefits. They told me per email that they would call me either today or tomorrow. I am very leary after seeing all the negative responses. I can understand maybe a couple of negatives... but it seems that many people were not satisfied with this company.

weekends - me

[ In Reply To ..]
You will be hard pressed to find a position that does not require weekends. KS pays 8 cpl. I have 20 years of experience and that is what they offered me. They used to pay more so there are some MTs that started out at 9 cpl or even a little higher.
thank you (sm) - Bobbi54
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you work for Keystrokes now?
If you want more, there is no harm in asking. They started me at 9 cpl four months ago after offeri - FastFingers
[ In Reply To ..]
They do say they start everyone at 8 cpl but there is no harm in asking, especially if weekends or evenings. If they say 9 cpl, everyone will ask for 10 cpl, so I think they say that.

I also know a few people who work for them too and did get raises after 3 months when they asked.

I got the same e-mail - 7dayMT

[ In Reply To ..]
and am waiting for the call. I like the schedule (I need work on weekends) but now I'm worried about this platform.
I hear you .. - Bobbi54
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm worried about this platform also!
When I applied and I have worked on Meditech - I asked for at least 9 cpl
[ In Reply To ..]
It did not seem that it would be a problem. The problem for me was that they only hire full-time. I did get a lot of questions answered before I even tested and I do not even think they were going to test me. I also have 20 years of experience.

Trust me when I tell you and I am a poster from above that Meditech is not a money maker. You will have to bargain your line rate. Except nothing less than 10 cpl. You will need it for all of the time you spend in the clunky platform.
My other post about Keystrokes was removed - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
I had responded to another poster asking about Keystrokes but apparently it was removed, so I will try again. I had started with them but after a very short time, I told them I did not want to work for them and quit. They put me on the Meditech platform, too, which was really bad. You have to fill in numerous screens before you can even begin typing the report. I also was put on an account that required a C-phone (which I did not have and had to buy) and I was required to have unlimited long distance. I was told that my phone company could monitor my usage and require me to have a business account (at my expense, of course). They recommended that I get Vonage for $25. a month. I asked about using the Magic Jack and was told it would not work. They also required the use of the Shorthand expander (there was none on this platform) which I would also have to pay for after a 30 day free trial. The sound quality on this account was horrible. I had asked for a variety of work (basic four) and all I ever received were op reports. They nit-pick every comma, etc., on QA and you'd better have the BOS memorized, because they will call you on everything that is in it. The so-called "training" was ridiculous (for which I was not paid), and they pushed me to start right away. For all this pain and torture, I received $38. I have 30 years of experience and was not about to put up with this crap. If you decide to work there, I wish you the best of luck. As for me, I have just about decided to get out of MT altogether. I do remember the "good old days" when we actually were paid a good hourly wage and were allowed to do our job without being nit-picked to death over every little comma. These companies have totally ruined the profession that I really loved.
Yes, now I remember your post.... - Bobbi54
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm just about ready to throw in the towel myself. Like you, I remember the "good old days" and were paid well. Having to pay for your own word expander is just BS.

I'm thinking of going back to school to learn something completely new.
KS expander - me
[ In Reply To ..]
I no longer work for KS, but they loaned me a C-phone and they gave me their license number to SH so that I didn't have to pay for it.
AMEN - mt30+
[ In Reply To ..]
You must have had the same account they wanted me to do. Put out a lot of money for equipment, no guarantees as to work, no training, etc. No WAY! This is no way to run a company. The folk who are happy I am glad for. But they cannot keep MTs on Meditech and that is why all the job openings. Its always for hte same accounts and nobody stays. I also remember the way it use to be with good pay and employers who appreciated you and paid for your skills. This business is nothing more than a sweat shop brought about by the schools claims of "work at home money" while you watch your kids, do your laundry in your PJs, etc. Its ridiculous.

Quit bashing KS - Honest MT
[ In Reply To ..]
The Meditech KS uses is a lot better, faster and user-friendly than the blue-screen dial-up modem outfit we used to use in the early 2000s. Neither version have ever hindered my productivity or wages. I loved working for KS after two months, so I was more than happy to switch to a business ULD account. Shorthand expander is a tad expensive but it is the most user-friendly expander program I have ever used. QA is a bit strict because reports full of errors both make the company look bad and compromise patient care. I've never had a problem with my QA scores - I have consistently received 98.5-100% QA on a very difficult account. The problem is, some MTs have attitudes and get all defensive and take it personal when you just do your job and give constructive criticism and provide feedback. As a lead, that makes it difficult for ME to do MY job. KS tries to accommodate MT preferences when hiring, but new MTs should not expect to be able to pick and choose accounts because "they don't like it," no matter what the company.
KS is a reputable company who cares about their employees and their clients. They will meet you halfway if they see you are putting in a good effort. No offense, but you sound like a bit of a diva MT. Believe me, there are MUCH worse places to work than KS. At the job I quit when being hired at KS (where I worked in-house), my mother-law-died and I called to inform the office, and my boss said "So you're not coming in at all today?" I said "Well duh what do you think?" and hung up. I quit not long after. If this happened while working at KS, they would have been way more understanding, and probably received a sympathy card. To MTs not willing to put forth an honest effort, not willing to accept constructive criticism/feedback, and MTs who think "My work is perfect, and whoever says otherwise is out to get me," will not fare well, however.

But there are over 600 happy people there who might not come here. sm - Happy Keystroker

[ In Reply To ..]
It seems like all companies have more negative posts than positives, but it might be the old adage of if you are happy, you keep it to yourself but if you are unhappy, you dwell on it and tell everyone who will listen.

They treat me well and have for 4 years. I am paid on time and make good money.

I am on a Meditech account but do ER, so it might be different than other Meditech accounts.

I have all the work I want, now have M-F days and have great benefits.

I am a single mom of 3 active, athletic boys so I am not chained to my desk and cannot be. I am the sole supporter thanks to a deadbeat ex-husband and can pay my mortgage and other bills thanks to my job at KS.

Don't always listen to the nay-sayers that prowl this board looking for a place to vent. There are people who did not like it there, and they are certainly entitled to their opinions.

I just wanted to give a different point of view.
That's great - mt30+
[ In Reply To ..]
but youy have been there for four years. They don't start you out this way and there is no way I or many other experienced MTs are going to put money into a company and equipment etc when you can't make any money at it. The way I figure, if they are hiring you as an employee,t hey can supply your C-phone etc. Seems to me its the best of both worlds on their end.

I know exactly the company you are talking about and have wondered the same thing. The person who wrote the rules must not have a full understanding of the VR program. At this company, we are supposed to adhere to the account specifics to a T if we type on the account, but if we get a VR job on that same account we are supposed to ignore the account specifics and leave it as VR puts it unless there are blatant errors. That makes NO SENSE. Why not train VR correctly in the first place so the repo ...
