Anybody know where any documentation regarding exactly how the QA - so sad

submission line count is calculated? Number of characters in the words filled in by QA divided by total pay period line count? Number of characters in the document submitted? Knowing MQ, it's probably the latter. So... if I submit 1 report with a 90 line count doc and 1 word, I'm dinged more than five 10 line count docs with 2 lines (i.e., 130 characters) of blanks in each? There are doctors with such bad accents+mumbling in my group that they can end up with half the document blank in a even a short progress note.

I just want to do the best job I can, knowing that I provided the patient with the best record I can and get paid a decent living wage.

I just keep reminding myself..... just 6 more months until I finish my training for the new career. Although, I wish I could remain a transcriptionist, but I still have to eat and pay rent. Just 6 more months....

Just make sure you have a plan B. For now, type as you normally do and put blanks where you don't understand the dictator and avoid sending it to QA altogether. If you get let go because of that, its not your fault, you were doing your job. This profession is finished. They need to cut corners financially in every aspect of healthcare. I was worried myself, so I understand, but this last straw made me throw up my hands. They don't care about us. Period.

I'm not especially worried. It just would be - so sad

fair and proper if we would be informed of the counting method.

One thing about this FTR, IMO, it has given me permission to do my job a little more like I would like to do - fill in what I know the doctor is saying instead of trying to decipher the verbatim. Also, I don't have to send in the cheese hole reports due to bad sound.

There are a lot of vocations that you can use your present knowledge to make it easier and fun. Check out vocations such as radiology techs, ultrasound techs, etc. Community colleges are a bargain - 1, maybe 2 years, depending on the vocation, and you're trained! If you have the time and inclination, there's physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, etc. Just don't go to any of those private career colleges - they will take your money and give you less than 1/4 the skills - too many are not very good.

I work in a surgery center/clinic in medical transcription. I have never worked in the medical field before, so I'm not sure what is acceptable. We get massive amounts of documentation errors from the nurses in the surgery center and in the clinic. Is this usually acceptable?! Is it normal for a transcriptionist to be required to scan over the chart and correct all of their errors or should this be the responsibility of the nursing staff? It's DRIVING me up a wall! Ahima certainly gives it a different spin than MT, and an article at Study.com lists desired or common requirements as associate's or bachelor's degree, with nursing, HIM, or health information technology, and medical coding expertise.
