Curious about something,,availability of work - sm

Posted: Dec 31, 2012

Those of you with limited work, I mean really low line counts..What tier are you?  Im a 3 and I rarely run out of work..Wondering if they are limiting based on experience? Not that that is right, the whole thing just makes no sense

Me too.... - bshel

I am a 3 and rarely if ever out of work. Maybe you have something there?

Tier 3 too - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
and fairly new to M*Modal. I have not run out of work even once since starting and hoping it stays that way.

Tier 2 here - Rarely NJA

[ In Reply To ..]
The only NJA I got was on Christmas day. Last year I didn't take any PTO around the holidays and was hoping for NJA and was upset I had to work everyday. This year, I still took no PTO, but expected to work every day. I don't understand others having such small paychecks. What is going on in this company? I work the 2nd shift, rarely run out of work, some helper pools, but not took much. I'm terrified people are going to change their hours and then I'll run out too. Job hunting in the New Year, good luck to us all.
Oops! Too much not took much! - nm

Tier 3 does all work types. - dnr

[ In Reply To ..]
The lower tiers do not get all work types. Example:Tiers below 3 do not get operati reports.

I do get a TON of op notes for which I am very happy. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
What I find amusing is that op notes are easier than most work types, IMHO.

Anyone who does mostly clinic work is going to be hurting for sure. Docs don't like to work this time of year. When I worked in a clinic our docs took off at least 2 months a year.

I was a Tier 2 and was getting OP notes. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
They hired me at a cheap Tier 2 rate and gave me OP notes of which I rejected in a heartbeat. If they thought I didn't qualify on hire, then keep them. Why should I type them when others make more money to type them? So, it's not just Tier 3 typing OP notes.

I posted this before and got replies that other Tier 2 employees were gladly typing OP notes as they like them and didn't care that they were being paid less. So, if they can get away with sending OP notes to Tier 2 MTs, they do.

Op notes are easy - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
They are usually very similar to one another and there is far less info to look up. Op notes are where the money is, I don't care what tier you are. I would rather do nothing but op notes all day. You rarely have to worry about searching doc names, lists of medications, places, etc.

I also think VR works best on them because they are so repetitive.
My favorite work type. I would be happy to - type them all day long. NM

I just couldn't believe it when I saw your post. I am a Level 3. I do op reports and yes, some of them are same thing time after time. I will guarantee that the majority ARE NOT. The first month I worked for MM, I got a 3 page spinal surgery note with instruments, hardware, rongeurs, drills, rods, things of that sort that I had to look up. I am not new. I have been transcribing for a very long time, 20+ and, as it happens, I love OP notes because they challenge me. This isn't the one time that I had to really work to get it and get it correct. I continue to get very difficult op notes. Please, don't speak out of turn unless you know what it is you are saying. If they were easy, everyone could do them.
ooohkay - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I guess I should have said "op notes are easy for me." Everything is relative.

Yes, you do have to look up instrument names from time to time but then you know them or have a reference sheet with them for next time. I just find that personally I don't need to do a ton of research on op notes.

Again, terribly sorry for speaking at all, as is usual when it comes to this board.

Me I love ER reports I can do them in my sleep - never get any though

Isn't it amazing that any positivity on this board - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
gets such condescending replies. I also find OP notes easy. It doesn't take all that much to look up a random instrument you haven't heard before, especially now with the ability to highlight and hit Ctrl 1. Piece of cake. I've been doing OP notes since I was an entry level newbie 10 years ago, and have loved them from day 1. Very few headings to deal with and format, just a lot of straight typing or editing. Love them, and Yes, they are EASY and FAST!

No, actually, I apologize. You are right about feeling like you can't speak on this or any board (in my opinion) without getting a bunch of hastle. I too feel that way but never want to come across poorly, I don't mean it. I guess I am stressed out more than I knew.
I hear you. No problem. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
It is a very stressful time to be an MT, even for those of us who don't run out of work. I still have to work 2 full time jobs because the pay is so low, so stress is something I understand.

I need to try to be much less jumpy myself.

Tier 3 here, also never out of work. - L&L

[ In Reply To ..]
Also late-night shift. Big tertiary care hospital with mostly ESLs. Op notes are a piece of cake compared to genetics. Try finding references for a condition only 300 people in the world have. FLK syndrome from the 1970s has gone to things like 22q12.3-q131 and c.520_521dupAA in the 2010's.

I am tier 3 (I guess I still am) - and almost never get op

[ In Reply To ..]
notes, and I basically learned MT doing all kinds of work in large university hospitals, near 30 years. Now I am stuck on accounts from a bunch of rinky dink hospitals where they pretty much send old people to die and on a good day I might get a colonoscopy.

On the upside I hardly ever run out of 20 to 50 second reports that sound like they were dictated by refugees from a Packistani prison camp.

Hey, I learned MT that way too, but it's like that song - L&L

[ In Reply To ..]
How do you keep em down on the farm after they've seen Paree (WW2). I would die of boredom w/o the hard stuff. I think I almost would rather not have work than have boring work, but I'm nearly 62 so early retirement is always an option, thank heavens!

Deck stacked against tiering up - Currently tier 2

[ In Reply To ..]
Anyone who tells you different has not been jacked around by the testing system offered at Mmodal. There are a million excuses why you are not allowed to test including availabilty of op notes on your accounts, compatibility with schedule or just your TSM being lazy and never submitting your request. You have to pass an audit first which of course now the standard is now 99.5% so good luck that they don't go back 30 days to find something to make you fail. You will have to stay on them to get your results back. Even if you pass you may or may not actually get the test sent to you because of poor communication between your TSM and the testing department. Plus if you miss the 30 day window the process starts all over again. If you do get the test and complete it you may never get the results back because they tend to lose the tests.

If you finally jump through all the Mmodal hoops to tier up you will be told that passing the test makes you eligible for a raise, but does not mean that you will actually get one.

They talk big about career opportunities and wanting MTs to advance, but yet they do everything they can to sabotage the experience and just make the MT want to give up trying to tier up.

The main point of the thread is getting lost and I am really curious whether being tier 3 - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
is the key to not running out of work.

So far, no one has posted as a Tier 3 who is running out of work consistently.

NJA - argh

I have only run out of work an hour or 2 in the past month. Otherwise, it has been fairly steady.
I am a tier 3 and also running out, especially - since thanksgiving
[ In Reply To ..]
Dropped off like crazy in October though and now down to nothing.

Because it probably has nothing to do with what Tier - you are (sm)

[ In Reply To ..]
It has to do with what region you're in and how good you are in with your TSM and whether you're willing to be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to flex, etc.

I have seen far too many posts of out of work to even think it has anything to do with which Tier you are but a lot to do with regions and managers.
That makes a lot of sense - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I must say though that I am not "in" with my TSM but maybe I am in a region that has a lot of work. Of course that is for now, I have been burned before. I worked at Nuance and would get on a huge account with tons of work and OT and within 6 months the work was gone so I was off to the next account for the US MTs to train before sending it off to India as well.

Exactly! You said it better than me. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I have seen posts where MTs say they have instant message'd their manager and gotten a quick response and others say they knew nothing about being able to instant message a manager, so it's not a fair playing field here. End of story.

Would not know since not allowed to tier up - Currently tier 2

[ In Reply To ..]
While being granted the magical title of tier 3 supposedly opens up more work, there actually has to be actual work in the system to do. 700 jobs in the entire North is not a whole lot, not matter what tier you are. Our accounts have started sending the op notes to India along with other work types so I am not sure that being tier 3 is the answer to not running out of work.

Mmodal seems to be employing a battle strategy of old where the opposing army would lay siege to a city and let the people turn on each other as they slowly starved to death. Then the army would march in and take over. They never had to lift a finger, the sieged city did themselves in. Seems like Mmodal is starving us all out and letting us turn on each other, whatever tier or region we are.
That was put very very well. - Beyond Burned Out

I am a tier 2 and want to be a tier 2. I have been at this company 18 years and never wanted to tier up. I hate ops and was also told that if I tiered up I would "Possibly" get a raise.Well no thank you on the "possibility." I like my tier 2 work just fine and since I am at the top of the pay scale, why should I tier up. I never run out of work either.

Not true. Account went to India. High level account - Beyond Burned Out

[ In Reply To ..]
with all Tier 3 Mts. We ran out of work. We sat there twiddling our thumbs for longest period of time, when they finally sent us to another account. Wish I could describe this one, but they won't let me use four letter words on this board.

Your level has nothing to do with it.

I would love to do all ops, however since most the account I have been placed on is done in India, they must like them too.

Tier 3 and busy - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm tier 3 and can't remember the last time I ran out of work. I think it depends not only on your tier but your BOB and your CCM. It's too bad that there isn't more company-wide consistency but it appears to be very difficult to find CCMs who know their BOB and MTs well enough to keep the work flow under control and assure that there is work for everyone who is scheduled.

Job Availability For New Coder

NJA And Work Availability. Different For Each Account?
Nov 24, 2012

I'm so mixed up. What I read here about no jobs available and what we are being  required to do is much different.  Originally we were told to check for work every 30 minutes and could enter 30 min of work availability, but had to stay all shift.   The following day after doing this we get an email that says that was wrong and we can only have 15 min work availability and the time cards would be corrected to take out that extra 15 min originally instructed to include.&n ...

Work Availability Controlled By Schools?

I Am Thinking Of Clocking In Under Work Availability While
Apr 25, 2013

If I am sitting at my computer waiting for jobs to come in every 5-13 minutes, I should be paid. I should not have to be penalized by an adverse effect on my line count if I were to stay clocked in as production. Waiting for jobs while clocked out is still being on the job if you are signed into Fluency. So, the way I figure, you are still working, but off the clock. Plus, as proof that you are working off the clock, your Fluency log in time will be greater than your clocked in time. ...
