Ouir BOB lost another large account and now there are too many MTs. So, about 8-12 are being moved. The account that I transcribe is going to be almost 100% ASR, and the account is being transferred to the Canadian MTs. Apparently the poor Canadians don't have enough work. They do, however, get free health insurance. Now we not only have to worry about the Indians, but the Canadians too. I can guarantee they are being paid less.

We do not have "free" healthcare - we pay about for it through our taxes which are about 5 times what you pay.

And how is it that you are able to guarantee we are being paid less?

The average Canadian home pays about 40-48% of income to taxes, depending on the province, which "partly" funds healthcare. My family, in the U.S., pays about 35% and sometimes more, so I don't know where you get 5 times more.

sucks. I have a good friend who married a Canadian man so he could have access to her U.S. health care. I was told by both of them that you can see a nurse fairly quickly but there was an approximate 6 month wait to see a doctor. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in New York. It was caught early enough that he is expected to make a full recovery.

Canada has never been a '3rd world' type country, so I don't think they realized quite as many cost-saving measures in moving work there. Plus, with the US dollar worth a little as it is, I would think that the Canadian MTs, if they are paid in US dollars, probably make more than a US MT.

We get paid in Canadian dollars and I haven't had a raise for over 7 years. And I've been with MQ for 8 years now, suffering alongside all of you. And I also believe that MQ bought out a Canadian company way back when and that's when they started with us.

It is dangerous for you to assume so much. You are wrong on everything you state: I rarely run out of work but have about 90% ESL with crappy southern accounts/dictations and QA about 60% of my work due to the worst of the worst! Certainly not my fault, I have been an MT for 29 years so pretty seasoned at what I do for a living.

HEALTH INSURANCE IS NOT FREE FOR EVERYONE..If you earn about $30,000.00 gross Canadian dollars per year and are single and self-employed you pay $54.00 per month. Dental work is paid out of your pocket too. Canadian MTs are independent contractors and get ZERO benefits.

I get 0.11886 cents per line for regular transcription and 0.083202 cents per line for ASR, so you are way off on your assumption that Canadians make less. Remember our dollar is worth less than yours as of today. We are not paid Indian wages......yet!

Last spring I lost 6 Mississippi accounts because I was not an MT living on US soil. The said hospitals signed a labor partner contract that no Canadian MTs could work for them yet MQ outsources some hospitals work to India. So being a Canadian MT for MQ does not seem to matter, kind of prejudice to me but hey MQ makes rules for certain people without making any sense. I am a US citizen first and foremost (born in Virginia) and a Canadian citizen but that does not apparently seem to matter in my wish to return to my former accounts.

So girl, watch what you say, it is dangerous to assume things. We are all having a tough time, suck it up.

that was not intended. I meant that MQ was probably using tier 1 or 2 for this account and paying them less, or maybe the taxing situation is less in Canada, thereby saving them money, or whatever. I am absolutely sure that MQ is using this to their advantage and to hell with the rest of us.

I find it interesting that you make so much for ASR since MQ pays 60% of your MT rate for speech recognition. You are making 70%.

And finally, my husband is retired and on Medicare and pays $130 per month. I am 10 years younger than he, not yet eligible. I can't afford insurance, it would be about an additional $250 per month for crappy insurance for me. So, I haven't had any, or even been to a doctor in 25 years for anything. If it was $54 a month we certainly would be able to afford it.

MQ is a really lousy company to work for.

Have you ever heard of the Bilderburg group? Check it out. My suspicion is that they all met and decided the US should no longer be a "1st-world country." I base this on all the horrific things done to the average joe and joan over the last many years.

At least in Canada you don't have any Bushes.

I find it interesting that the specs have changed. I'm happy to see these changes... Doctors names in report verbatim. Headers abbreviated verbatim. (LABS, MEDS, HISTORY, HPI, etc). Copy-Paste requests verbatim. Skip silence (for dictators who have never heard of the pause command. Will dictators finally get the message that mumbled abbreviations with B, C, D, E, P, T, ...

I was transferred only about about a month ago (stolen according to my last TSM). This is a new account. Every single week it is something. I am not sure if this is going on with your accounts, but I have noticed on my primary that there are a lot of old reports in there, from days and days ago. A few weeks back my team leader said ignore those TAT times because they were pulling old stuff for "training." It started with DS, and now I notice that there are old H&Ps and Consults in there. Did anyone ever contact a hospital after your account was lost to find out where it went and you were still employed with the former MTSO that had the account. Concerned about doing this if the hospital were to contact the MTSO and still employed there but not overly happy anymore. I currently provide transcription to various speciality clinics using a call-in system for the dictation, typing in Word and uploading via FTP site. I was contacted by a hospital to do their transcription. They asked if my transcriptionists could type in their VPN program. Can anyone tell me how I would do QA on this then? This would be a new system to me and I really want the account. ...
