Beating a dead horse but... - Adios

Posted: Sep 20, 2010

The problem with making money with ASR is, I swear my fingers are moving just as much, but all over the board, not how we all learned to go fast, fingers on the home keys and move from there.  My hands are trying to fly all over....arrow keys, end, ctrl/shift/arrow to highlight, over to delete, try to find my way back, only to move off home keys to arrow some more.  If I could connect a pedometer on my fingers, I know it would show they are moving just as much without the same productivity, thus my paycheck sucks big time.

Sorry, had to vent.  Bad ASR shift, as per usual. Have a good day.

Don't keep your hands on home row. - sm

That's my point - Adios

I can't keep them on the home row so that they can move quickly, with just slight movement. I must take them wayyyy off the home row all the time and move them all over.

My point is I find it impossible to go as fast on ASR as I can on straight typing because ASR causes my hands to move ALL OVER, and not in a smooth manner. When you move between all the additional keys, then back and forth on the letter keys, can't go as fast as just straight typing.

The game, Twister 6.1 - Trigger finger

I noticed my hands also fly all over the place, increasing my chance to miss a key here or there. I'm so much better with straight typing for the same reason, keeping my hands at home. I notice that in doing the doctor lookup, I have to alt-s after inserting the last name, which is very awkward for me, like the game of Twister, left hand yellow, right hand red. It's just not as fun as the game. I also notice that I'm getting trigger fingers since ASR started, and they're getting worse. Coincidental? I think not.

I thought it was just me. I have never had so much trouble finding the comma in my life. I think if I had the 8 cents per line or so for every time I typed "m" for the comma or "/" for the period....my paycheck would be in a lot better shape!! I thought about using the sticky part of a post it note to put on the dumb comma key so I could tell it apart from the others. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
m for comma!!!!!!!!! - dumbdumb

I thought I was just losing my skills, but when I lift my hands and then go back, I hit the m instead of the comma at least 50% of the time. So infuriating.

The alt and control functions keys should not be so close together on the keyboard. The added keys for different screens drives me crazy too - same keys, different function. I am here only a short time longer......sorry, but really do hate this job! It takes everything I got to sit down and do it anymore.
m for comma, seems to be epidemic - Adios

That is exactly what has been happening to me. So sick and tired of that stupid m. I was really beating myself up.

This really proves to me that EDITING cannot be done as fast as they say, for that reason. They keyboard was not made for speed in editing, if you have to retype half of what you are editing.

I also am getting shooting pains in my little finger. Not sure why that one. Probably trying to stretch it down to the arrow keys so often.

I never had any wrist pain/carpal tunnel problems until ASR....... - Kiki1

Just sayin

carpal tunnel - fedup

Same here, done this for 23 years and never had a problem. I think it's because as we're listening to ASR, our wrists are resting instead of up in the air typing. Try this, get a towel and lay it under the end of your keyboard, near your space bar, and on the "shelf" (for lack of a better word) that your kepboard sits on. That way, your wrists on resting against something soft a lot of the time. Worked for me, I noticed a big improvement right away! Good luck.

I have a wrist rest made of gel. Helps some. - sick and tired

Thanks fedup...I'm going to try something like this... - Kiki1

In fact, I have this half-inch padding with a sticky side (came in my AC box for the window!) that I am going to cut and stick on that "shelf" in front of the space bar/arrow keys to rest my arm on. Thanks for that idea!

Speech keystrokes - alphamt

[ In Reply To ..]
E-mailed TonyM that all the Speech keystrokes need to be added to the final document count. I would be tolerating the downgrade to SpeechQ and cut in pay with IT problems with less issues. Win-Win is not a phrase at MQ!

E-mail re keystrokes, - Adios

[ In Reply To ..]
You are exactly right that Speech keystrokes should be added, but I'm sure they just laughed. Or they are convincing themselves we don't know what we are talking about. If it was ever studied, I know we would be proven right.

Sadly, the only true way around this is changing jobs. They just aren't going to give up 1 cent of the 40% they have taken away from us.

It is a comfort to know I am not alone though, in finding my hands just can't adjust to this new "Twister" game.

Try this, it might help. - Sunflower

When I am doing an ASR report, I keep my left hand fingers on the control key and my right hand fingers on the arrow keys and follow along like that, so when I need to highlight and backspace my fingers are already there.

Silent Type Beating A Dead Horse

I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but wondering it anyone has any fresh insight or knowledge (without bashing).  It just seems so silly, we're all adults here, why can't she just come out and say what's going on so we can make an informed decision about what to do?  ...

I Hate To Beat A Dead Horse, But...........
Jun 10, 2014

Down below when I was trying to figure out if the reason I got laid off was because I was PT (CCM told me all PT were being laid off) or that I was in California (I thought maybe this was the case).....I realize that neither of these are true. I know there are still plenty of PT'ers left AND MTs in CA. So the only thing left (since like I said I always passed their stupid audits and always worked my graveyard/Saturday/sunday/all holidays shifts is that they were just trying to get rid of ...

With the advent of this technology, manual typing has been eliminated. BROW BEATING
Oct 26, 2010

What a waste of time and space to bicker about something like the below.  I am so surprised that a fellow MT would feel no compassion for others.  This board is for MTs to vent without being brow beaten for their feelings.  There is enough stress just being a MT without being made fun of for venting.  If a person does not like what is being said, then do not read the whole vent...just close it and pick another "vent."  You don't have to agree with the person that is ...

TROJAN HORSE FOUND IN EXTEXT AT DTS

I have found a trojan horse that is downloaded into our computers everytime we log into a job on ExText at DTS.  I thought at first it might have been in my computer but, then had them download into a new computer and it was there again.  I have protection from viruses, spyware and malware on my computer but, there was only one program that found the trojan horse.  It is called trojan.goldun.  Look it up, it can transmit all your personal information into whoever has put ...

Coding - From The Horse's Mouth To This Board
Nov 10, 2011

I just spoke with a young woman named Bailey at the AAPC.  AAPC only does outpatient coding certification, not inpatient.  Inpatient is obtained through AHIMA.  CPC requires 2 years of experience.  CPC exam can be taken without the 2 years of experience but will have an apprentice designation on your credential, CPC-A.  The apprentice would be dropped after 2 years of experience.   AHIMA's requirements are much different:  Certified Coding Associate (CCA ...

MTing NOT DEAD
Nov 22, 2011

MT'ers transcription may not be dead after all.  I had an interview with a local hospital that has many clinics and outside services.  They have had all of their transcription outsourced aside from various departments in the actual hospital.  However, they have discovered a better quality of work if they keep their work onsite.  They are pulling ALL of their services back to using on-site transcriptionists.  Some at home work after training, but there will be no MTS ...

Half-dead Doctors

Why is it that MTs (especially the ones who are starting out) have the opportunity to transcribe dictated reports from doctors that sound half dead, like they are using their last breath to dictate a report?
